The Washington Post is reporting in Friday editions that the FBI is investigating the "possible theft" of Diebold electronic touch-screen voting system source code in Maryland.
While the Maryland State Board of Elections admits that the disks contained "the software…used in Maryland in the 2004 elections," Diebold denies everything. Of course. They gave their catch-all apologia — the software is for "versions…that are no longer in use in Maryland" — although they were forced to acknowledge "the version of one program apparently stored on the disks is still in use in 'a limited number of jurisdictions.'"...

Whoever that guy was that said we dealt with Iraq in "stupidity" and "ignorance" finally got it right. I thought we were about to come into some real honesty in this debate. But...he retracted his statements. Doesnt matter though they have already been broadcast on Al Jazeera.
I felt better if only for a minute. It scares me that they are just going to deny reality all the way unitl the end. Just keep denying. It doesnt matter what everyone else says I guess they have made no mistakes. The end of what...I dont know. The Iraq Debacle, the elections, the world perhaps.

A HIGHER MORAL POWER
Hey everyone, please try to send CARE packages to our troops. They all need our love and care. Here is a letter from one of our brave soldiers stationed in Iraq, who writes a blog called ANGER MANAGEMENT

Yes, my wife and I are fine. We are pretty angry about the extension because what's another month and a half in an infants life without their parents. It is just too stupid. It seems like our brigade is losing people on a daily basis. My wife is the Executive Officer for the brigades Medical Support Company so she get's to see the casualties everyday, worrying whether or not I might be on the next MEDEVAC into her aid station. It doesnt seem to be getting any better.
I have not received any packages yet, but the mail takes time around here. I'll get it eventually.

As I attended a debate between Congressman Tim Bishop (D 1st Cong. District, NY) and his Republican challenger, Italo Zanzi: when both were asked of the detainee bill recently approved by Congress which will be signed by Bush today, this is what candidate Zanzi stated that he “doesn’t believe Bush can claim anyone as a terrorist.”
As I read some of contents of this detainee bill which is called ‘Military Commissions Bill (S. 3930)’ it states categorically, “Re-establishes President Bush's military tribunals, which were rejected by the Supreme Court as unconstitutional." I want candidate Zanzi to focus in on the word ‘unconstitutional’. I want candidate Zanzi to focus in on the word ‘unconstitutional’. How can any elected official including Bush place their hand on the Bible and take an oath to uphold the United States Constitution, and then support a bill that the U.S. Supreme Court rejected? It is not so much that directive, but this one that disproves Zanzi’s assessment of this bill that it, “strips legal residents of the U.S. of their right to challenge their detention in court if they're accused of being “enemy combatants,” So, if an American is arrested that is accused of being an “enemy combatant”, don’t they have the right to due process of law?
At one point, I was going to write of this country’s most heinous serial killers and we gave them the right of due process. Their victims were allowed to confront them in court and in one case; Ted Bundy was even allowed to marry within a court of law. These killers had and still do have the right to challenge any law in which the prosecution said they broke. Their defense attorneys are even allowed to challenge the courts when it comes to constitutional issues.
As journalists write of the Iraq War and terrorism in general, it is this part of the bill that does disturb me that it, “names any individual, including citizens, as an “unlawful enemy combatant” if they provide “material support” to those engaged in hostilities against the U.S.” As I see it, words do have value so should be thought of as a physical entity and can be construed as ‘material support’. Journalists also write the opinions and reactions of those that are engaged in hostilities against us, so can journalists be targeted and labeled as ‘enemy combatants’ by aiding the other side with a venue in order to speak out?
What happens to an innocent American that unknowingly supplies “material support” to an enemy of the United States? Are they not allowed due process? In the past, we placed many on trial for acts of treason, gave them due process and those convicted sit in prison. The United States Constitution served us in those cases.
While no question was submitted concerning war crimes contained within this bill, this is what that bill soon to be signed into law states “legalizes U.S. war crimes committed before December 30, 2005” So, if down the road and this is directed to, Italo Zanzi, should it be found that Bush had indeed committed war crimes, does this shield him? I would also like him to speak of these ‘U.S. war crimes’ since congress felt the need to place it within this bill.
As we all know, Bush lied about the facts concerning our illegal invasion of Iraq which even the UN Security Council did not give us permission to invade since we lied about the facts. We all know that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, yet another fact not brought up as it related to this war in this debate. We most certainly do know that Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction. As a result of these lies it has now been reported that 655,000 innocent Iraqis have died. Wouldn’t he call that a war crime? If so, then through this bill, Bush is now shielded.
As I listened to Congressman, Tim Bishop’s answer regarding this one bill, he point-blank stated, “Why fear a trial?” which means due process under the law. He also stated that our “government should be run by rule of law” If our Constitution has served us so well in the past, why change it? That is what Congressman, Tim Bishop understands.
This is what Congressman, Bishop stated of the war in Iraq by us focusing on this war, “We allowed our concentration in Afghanistan to slip” He also stated that we do need to get our soldiers out” He then stated that it has turned into a “civil war” in which our “soldiers are not trained”
The following remarks were the ones that I focused in on. He (Bishop) stated that “70 percent of Iraqis think that it is okay to attack our soldiers” Gee, I wonder why? Bishop referred to where we would be thought of as liberators and greeted with flowers, when the complete opposite has happened. He also stated that our military is “stretched to the limit” With US Naval ships just off the coast of Iran, just how is this Bush administration going to supply the man power should we invade Iran?
This was perhaps the one most single and powerful statement made by Congressman Bishop concerning our war in Iraq that it was “a war of choice” I seem to remember Senator John Kerry stating during the 2004 presidential campaign, “You don’t use the military because you want to, but because you have to.”
When it comes to Bush’s go-it-alone foreign policy, this is what Congressman Bishop believes that we “need to return to a saner foreign policy” He also believes that “diplomacy is not a bad thing” There are some that believe diplomacy is a sign of weakness, but I am of the opinion it makes one stronger and makes this nation stronger.
By us returning to the rule of law, and through the use of diplomacy, it is then we can most certainly say that we are guided by a higher moral power.

Shooter's wife thanks Amish community

LANCASTER, Pa. - The wife of a gunman who killed five girls and injured five others at an Amish school released a statement thanking the Amish and others in the Lancaster County community for their "forgiveness, grace and mercy."
In the letter, released by a family spokesman and addressed to Amish friends, neighbors and the local community, Marie Roberts says she and her three young children have been overwhelmed by the community support since the Oct. 2 shootings.
"Your love for our family has helped to provide the healing we so desperately need," she wrote. "Gifts you've given have touched our hearts in a way no words can describe. ... Your compassion has reached beyond our family, beyond our community, and is changing our world, and for this we sincerely thank you."
Since the shooting, members of the Amish community have said they forgive Charles Carl Roberts IV, who killed himself as police closed in on the West Nickel Mines Amish School.
Before he committed suicide, the 32-year-old milk truck driver said he was angry at God for the November 1997 death of his infant daughter. He also said he was driven by memories of molesting two young relatives 20 years ago, a claim investigators have not substantiated.
"Please know that our hearts have been broken by all that has happened," Marie Roberts wrote. "We are filled with sorrow for all of our Amish neighbors whom we have loved and continue to love."
Contractors tore down the bloodstained schoolhouse on Thursday, a step that community members hope will help them move on. Funds also have been set up for the families of the Amish children, as well as the Roberts family.
Marie Roberts said she hopes the community also looks to God for support in the coming days, months and years.
"We know there are many hard days ahead for all the families who lost loved ones, and so we will continue to put our hope and trust in the God of all comfort, as we all seek to rebuild our lives," she wrote.

It doesnt seem that our presence is helping to do anything but get more American's killed or injured and for what no one knows. I know an officer who confesses to be a stalwhart NeoCon, but he asked me the other day, "What the f--- are we doing here? I just dont get it." When they've lost those people I think they have lost just about everyone. My soldiers ask me what we're doing here, and I can't tell them because I can't lie to them and I can't make disparging or "disdainful remarks" (Art. 88 UCMJ) about the President, the VP or their Cabinet members.
A lot of people are really questioning it now that we have been extended.
We know why we have to stay a little longer, but it doesnt make it any better or any safer.....At least if we were making headway it would count for something. But that begs the question what are we supposed to be making headway towards? Noone seems to know. So, I just do my job and keep my men and myself safe another 5 months and then I get to come home.

More than five years after President Bush created the Office of Faith-Based Initiatives, the former second-in-command of that office is going public with an insider’s tell-all account that portrays an office used almost exclusively to win political points with both evangelical Christians and traditionally Democratic minorities.
The office’s primary mission, providing financial support to charities that serve the poor, never got the presidential support it needed to succeed, according to the book.
Entitled “Tempting Faith,” the book is not scheduled for release until Oct. 16, but MSNBC’s “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” has obtained a copy.
“Tempting Faith’s” author is David Kuo, who served as special assistant to the president from 2001 to 2003. A self-described conservative Christian, Kuo’s previous experience includes work for prominent conservatives including former Education Secretary and federal drug czar Bill Bennett and former Attorney General John Ashcroft.
We are investigating this despicable tax-loophole for the religious right, which enables them to work at getting the vote out for their evangelical wing. How on earth is this legal? Why are right-wing churches the only ones who benefit from this? Did they help the Katrina victims in the name of God? Funny I never heard of a single right-wing evangelical mega church helping the Katrina victims in a big way.
George Bush, God Bless him, cannot be trusted. We cannot believe a single thing he says. He is incapable of telling the truth, admitting he's wrong or taking responsibility for his mistakes. M. Bush flippantly denies a Johns-Hopkins report that says over 655,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed as a result of our "war to bring peace and stability." BUSH JUST DENIES THE INVESTIGATIVE STUDY by a prestigious university research team, Johns-Hopkins! The Pentagon has pointedly refused to count the dead (despite international law that requires any occupying military force to count its victims and pay reparations).
What a load of Orwellian doublespeak. He never once acknowledges the 300 billion dollar cost of his wonderful war. He never once stands over a coffin or attends a funeral for the public to see. And what he conveniently failed to mention in his speech today is this: that before he took office, gas prices were HALF what they are even now; the catastrophic deficit was a suprlus, and the economy was soaring. We are supposed to be grateful for the slight turnaround by big oil right before the elections.
He states that he suddenly had a change of heart: it's best to have allies. Great! Why couldn't he have realized this before invading Iraq and upsetting the balance of the entire world?
Lying through his teeth he impugned the patriotism of Democrats as "cut and run" while saying he wasn't impugning their patriotism. DEMOCRATS are far more patriotic than this administration; we demand an end to death and violence in Iraq. We cannot aford to lose any more troops. Onnly a moron would stay where we are not wanted. Let the Iraqis find their own way now.

A lot of people are really questioning it now that we have been extended.
We know why we have to stay a little longer, but it doesnt make it any better or any safer.....At least if we were making headway it would count for something. But that begs the question what are we supposed to be making headway towards? Noone seems to know. So, I just do my job and keep my men and myself safe another 5 months and then I get to come home.

Faith-Based Initiatives are another sign of corruption. We find out today, thanks to a new book, Karl Rove was the creator of the "Faith-based Inititives" and did it to trick the Christians into voting for Republicans. (More below)

More than five years after President Bush created the Office of Faith-Based Initiatives, the former second-in-command of that office is going public with an insider’s tell-all account that portrays an office used almost exclusively to win political points with both evangelical Christians and traditionally Democratic minorities.
The office’s primary mission, providing financial support to charities that serve the poor, never got the presidential support it needed to succeed, according to the book.
Entitled “Tempting Faith,” the book is not scheduled for release until Oct. 16, but MSNBC’s “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” has obtained a copy.
“Tempting Faith’s” author is David Kuo, who served as special assistant to the president from 2001 to 2003. A self-described conservative Christian, Kuo’s previous experience includes work for prominent conservatives including former Education Secretary and federal drug czar Bill Bennett and former Attorney General John Ashcroft.
We are investigating this despicable tax-loophole for the religious right, which enables them to work at getting the vote out for their evangelical wing. How on earth is this legal? Why are right-wing churches the only ones who benefit from this? Did they help the Katrina victims in the name of God? Funny I never heard of a single right-wing evangelical mega church helping the Katrina victims in a big way.
George Bush, God Bless him, cannot be trusted. We cannot believe a single thing he says. He is incapable of telling the truth, admitting he's wrong or taking responsibility for his mistakes. M. Scott Peck defines these types as "people of the lie." In other words, evil. By over-extending ourselves in Iraq, Bush has enabled the North Korean and Iranian dictators to arrogantly strut and flaunt nuclear threats. Bush flippantly denies a Johns-Hopkins report that says over 655,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed as a result of our "war to bring peace and stability." BUSH JUST DENIES THE INVESTIGATIVE STUDY by a prestigious university research team, Johns-Hopkins! The Pentagon has pointedly refused to count the dead (despite international law that requires any occupying military force to count its victims and pay reparations).
What a load of Orwellian doublespeak. He never once acknowledges the 300 billion dollar cost of his wonderful war. He never once stands over a coffin or attends a funeral for the public to see. And what he conveniently failed to mention in his speech today is this: that before he took office, gas prices were HALF what they are even now; the catastrophic deficit was a suprlus, and the economy was soaring. We are supposed to be grateful for the slight turnaround by big oil right before the elections.
He states that he suddenly had a change of heart: it's best to have allies. Great! Why couldn't he have realized this before invading Iraq and upsetting the balance of the entire world?
Lying through his teeth he impugned the patriotism of Democrats as "cut and run" while saying he wasn't impugning their patriotism. DEMOCRATS are far more patriotic than this administration; we demand an end to death and violence in Iraq. We cannot aford to lose any more troops. Onnly a moron would stay where we are not wanted. Let the Iraqis find their own way now.

THE AMAZING AMISH
Lancaster County in Mourning. The Amish are the most amazing people. If only the whole world were like this, we'd have peace on earth. "I was thinking... of how these people who do absolutely nothing to bring attention to themselves are now a candle on the hill for the whole world to see. It's an impressive thing to witness." - comment from the Daily Herald of Utah.
Blessed are the peacemakers. This is exactly the reaction that Christ would have had in this situation. What happened here is a lesson for all of us. In light of the recent tragedies in the one-room schoolhouse, with ten little girls shot and five murdered by an outsider, the fact that members of victims' families actually went to comfort the murderer's father and wife — is astonishing. They forgave the family of the murderer. This is a supreme example of Christ's power of forgiveness.
I believe this incident is an example for us to follow; it's as if God had no other way of getting our attention: this is the way we are to treat our enemies, this is how we must behave in the wake of "terrorist attacks." When will we ever get it? (And me included?) Hatred, retaliation and revenge only cause more of the same, as we are learning in Iraq. True forgiveness of one's enemies, heals all.

Such a compassionate response reveals a belief that each individual is responsible to counter violence by expressing comfort - a sort of prayer in action. After Monday's killings, the grandfather of one of the slain girls went to the home of Roberts's father, consoling and hugging him, pouring forth a love and innocence of the kind remembered of the girls in the school. "He extended the hope of forgiveness that we all need these days," said a Roberts family spokesman, the Rev. Dwight Lefever of Living Faith Church of God. And this comment: "Some of us outside of the Amish community have had horrific things happen in our families and chosen to take the high road because of the desire to live our religious beliefs-- we've chosen forgiveness instead of lawsuits and revenge." And although I will be the first to admit my flawed character, I've had the opportunity to forgive placed before me by something huge happening in my life, and I like to think I passed the test. Please give some credit to at least a portion of those people who belong to the "giant religions" out there. They aren't all hypocrites. Are they?"
Now if only America could pass that test. Imagine the beautiful repercussions. We as Christians should be modeling this behavior in our everyday lives. I know that I personally need to be better at this myself. I know that my first reaction is to get mad when somebody does something to me that I do not like. And then there's MOBY, pop music superstar who has sold more than 15 million records, unapologetically follows the true Christ. Moby’s willingness to also walk the walk – evident in his ongoing commitment to simple living and so-called “Robin Hood-style philanthropy” – are indeed a unique representation of seeking, while in the spotlight, to follow Jesus – whom Moby sees as “essentially a homeless anarchist.”

Loss of any innocent life is devastating. Unjustified. Inexcusable. But the contrast in this particular shooting is striking because this was an Amish school and the Amish are about as non-violent a people as there are.They have even earned the nickname "the Gentle People".
All of Lancaster County mourns the loss of these young girls and terrible affect this has had on so many lives. Just amazing. Fox's O'Reilly Factor just covered the Mark Foley (R-FL) issue in two different segments, one of them with a page who says he received communications from Foley, and another with Ann Coulter.
Never mind the content of either segment for now. Incredibly, during a total of three different cutaways to video footage of Foley, he was labelled at the bottom of the screen eachtime as "(D-FL)" !
Three different times. In two different segements. Each cutaway about 15 seconds or more. Showing Foley as a DEMOCRAT. Amazing. FOX PROPAGANDA NETWORK IN ACTION

Boehner said he told House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert and that Hastiest assured him 'we're taking care of it.'" This sounds like it revolves around the incident Rodney Alexander reported to Tom Reynolds and the GOP leadership when Foley tried to seduce a young page from his district.

THE ARCHITECT OF EVIL
Warning: This is a mock photo of Rove being taken to jail. In a legitimate government, war criminals should be put into prison. So why are Cheney, Rove and Bush allowed to roam free? Good Christians should know how corrupt their leaders are. It is immoral to support these people. Wake up.
Last night went to Teddi and Marci Winograd's Progressive Democrats event for James Moore, and heard him speak on his new book "The Architect" about Karl Rove. Bush is a puppet of Rove and Cheney, but Rove is the mastermind of manipulation. He was behind the amoral swiftboating of John Kerry. Imagine attacking a war hero for his strengths. Rove uses incredibly corrupt and devious tactics to win power. You won't believe some of the things he has done — and continues to do in the name of "democracy."
Also, the release of the National Intelligence Estimate, a compiled report from all 16 US intelligence agencies, states that the war in Iraq has increased terrorism around the world, against our trooops and against the U.S.
But WE KNEW THAT. Anyone who had a brain, knew that a military invasion of Iraq would create more terrorists, and actually create a hotbed of terrorists, inflaming more and more people against us.
First it was Weapons of Mass Destruction and that has been proven wrong. Then it was Iraq\Al Queada ties, and thats been also proven wrong. Finally, it was "to fight em there so we don't have to fight em here". And now, a report prepared by every US intelligence agency says thats a crock, and that the war in Iraq is actually increasing the number of terrorists instead of reducing it, something most of us knew and have been articulating for about a year now.
It's clear that no amount of clarity and no measure of facts will help this poor President come to grips with the reality of his failed policies and failed strategies. Only removal from office will help him to see it, and its time to talk impeachment. Mr Bush. Your 15 minutes are up.
