GONZO-GATE TO BRING ROVE DOWN?

IMPORTANT: The military is recruiting prisoners now. A prisoner's father called the Ed Schulz show to report that his son was approached with an offer: join the military and get out of prison!

SATURDAY MORNING TUNE IN LIVE FROM LAS VEGAS and LOS ANGELES to our show BASHAM AND CORNELL PROGRESSIVE TALK
from 9 - 10 a.m. We broadcast live -- or go to our website and click on the link to hear the entire show in the archives.

THIS WEEK we interview Media Matters' Eric Boehlert on his report "If it's Sunday it Must be Conservative." Boehlert is the author of LAPDOGS: "How the Press Rolled Over for Bush." A look inside one of the great journalistic collapses of our time, this terrific book details how the corporate-owned news media utterly failed in their duties to the American people. Cowardly and clueless, the U.S. media abandoned its post as Bush led the country into a disastrous war. Question: why does the media appear to have a liberal bias to the conservatives? Hate to ruin yoyur party, but the truth is, THE TRUTH HAS A LIBERAL BIAS! Bad news out of Iraq is simply the truth, not a fiction, no matter how Bush and Fox News tries to propagandize it.

Upcoming: Congressman Charles Rangel will be our guest April 14. He will discuss his 30-year Congressional career and his new book, "And I Haven't Had a Bad Day Since: From the Streets of Harlem to the Halls of Congress." Recently our guest was Mark Green, one of the new owners of Air America, founder of New Democracy Project and author of "Losing Our Democracy." We've had some amazing guests the past 3 weeks: former federal prosecutor Elizabeth de la Vega, author of "U.S. vs BUSH" which is going to be a movie, a courtroom drama on the Bush Impeachment. We also had Media Matters' Paul Waldman, author of "Being Right is Not Enough".

Several disturbing items for readers to comment on:

1. In the Gonzo-gate scandal, Monica Goodling says she'll plead the Fifth Amendment. Who pleads the 5th? Only the guilty: criminals, mobsters, murderers, and crooks. You don't please the 5th unless you're guilty," as commenter Worfeus says.

According to the Courier Journal.com Ms. Goodling's decision, which was not authorized by her superiors, invites one of three damaging conclusions:

1. One is that a top Justice Department official cannot testify for fear that she will be implicated in a criminal act.
2. Another is that the Fifth Amendment dodge is a smokescreen -- that the real concern of Ms. Goodling, who was a liaison between the Justice Department and the White House, is that she would have to make embarrassing revelations about the political motives behind the ousters.
3. A third possibility, of course, is that Ms. Goodling resolved not to be this scandal's Scooter Libby, an underling tossed to the wolves to protect higher-ups.

Well, apparently every administration nowadays has a Monica who causes it grief. (MORE BELOW)

MORE ON MONICA-GATE: Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales's senior counselor,a graduate of Pat Robertson's University (Regent U) yesterday refused to testify in the Senate about her involvement in the firings of eight U.S. attorneys who serve at the "pleasure of the president" invoking her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. The decision means a senior aide to the nation's top law enforcement official is in the remarkable position of refusing to testify for fear of implicating herself in a crime. Her lawyer portrays the move as strategic and says she has done nothing wrong. Apparently she has information so incriminating, she is afraid to testify. Source: Dan Eggen of Washington Post.com

Monica M. Goodling, who has taken an indefinite leave of absence, said in a sworn affidavit to the Senate Judiciary Committee that she will "decline to answer any and all questions" about the firings because she faces "a perilous environment in which to testify." Here's more from TPM Muckracker: Monica Goodling does have a good faith basis for pleading the Fifth Amendment - just not the ones in her lawyer's letter that are getting all the attention.

"Under the federal False Statements statute, 18 USC 1001, it is a felony to cause another person to make a false statement to Congress. Since McNulty has allegedly told Senator Schumer that he made a false statement to Congress based on information provided to him by Monica Goodling, Goodling could very well be prosecuted for a Section 1001 violation.

All the rest of the crap in her lawyer's letter is intended to sooth as much as possible White House anger at her for invoking the Fifth. Comment from Think Progress: “She could shed light on the extent of White House involvement in the dismissals." Yeah but she won’t. After all, being a “good little Republican” means putting them before God or country..."

SEMI-SPOOKY ITEMS to discuss:

* This has been bothering me: President Bush doesn't seem to mind that our military is dwindling and "not ready." Could this mean that he is only interested in bombing campaigns, eliminating the need for troops altogether? It seemed he delighted in carpet bombing Baghdad, and gleefully stepped onto the aircraft carrier declaring "Mission accomplished!" I have a feeling Bush doesn't think ground troops are as effective as nuking or bombing entire nations. I pray I am wrong.

* Haliburton is building a huge factory in Mexico that will be "cost effective" (translation: slave labor)

* 150 White House and State Department officials are graduates of Pat Robertson's Regent University. Bush replaced seasoned Harvard and Ivy League-educated career veterans with these young, inexperienced "Christian evangelical" graduates. I interviewed a young law student who attended Regent U. She was appalled at how they used the "n" word constantly, and were all very isolated young people who had been home-schooled. None of them saw anything wrong with using the "n" word and they call themselves CHRISTIANS! I will print her exact words in an upcoming article.

* Bigoted emails from Army recruiter outrage gay man: an Army recruiter combed the internet to find subjects, and found one on a job website. She wrote a letter trying to recruit a young man who had posted on this job website. He wrote back saying he was a gay African American. The Army recruiter ripped into him, declaring he was immoral for being gay and should "vanish" to his own country, apparently Africa -- or wherever he came from. See The Jersey Journal PLEASE BE PATIENT I AM RESEARCHING SPECIFICS ON THIS ARTICLE

IT STARTS FROM WITHIN
Since this is a spiritual progressive blog, I have to put forth what I know is true - that hope really does spring eternal and we must keep our eyes on the good. What we focus on GROWS. At the Pentagon peace rally two weeks ago, a Republican protestor against the protestors held up a sign saying "PEACE SUCKS." I know it isn't sexy to stop arguing or fighting. I know it's more fun to gossip, vent, scream, yell and find fault with others. I know it is more exciting to watch a train wreck than a healing, but it doesn't help heal anything, in fact it keeps us stuck. Bad news proliferates because of our constant nurturing of it. I'm not saying stop shining a light on the bad guys like Rove, Bush, Cheney, Gonzales, Delay, and corrupt corporations. I'm saying let's also uplift each other by seeing the hope that is right around the corner. We need to see our innate goodness and know that truth will thrive as good people come into power. - Lydia

JOHN EDWARDS vs. NEWT GINGRICH: WHO HAS FAMILY VALUES?

SATURDAY MORNING TUNE IN LIVE FROM LAS VEGAS and LOS ANGELES to our show BASHAM AND CORNELL PROGRESSIVE TALK

JOHN EDWARDS vs. NEWT GINGRICH
Interesting, isn’t it, that Newt Gingrich didn’t stand by his wife Jackie on her deathbead when she was dying of cancer, but instead left her for another woman, yet he claims to be the party of “traditional family values!” John Edwards not only stands by his wife as she admits her cancer is incurable — as any moral person would — but unlike Gingrich, Edwards never cheated on his wife, and has never switched wives. John and Elizabeth Edwards have been married to her for 30 years and now.

CHEERS and Blessings to John and Elizabeth Edwards. The courage it takes to be optimistic in the face of Mrs. Edwards' returning cancer is exactly what this country needs. I believe John Edwards will be our next president. Though I love Obama and admire Hilary, I think Edwards stands the best chance of actually winning America's vote and heart. He is an incredible human being.

Thanks SEAN POMPANO (the Flavor Spray Diet) and JOE GANNASCOLI (Sopranos) for inviting me on your show! PEACE IS SEXY * OBJECTS OF CREATION

At the Pentagon peace rally the other day, a Republican protestor against the protestors held up a sign saying "PEACE SUCKS." I know it isn't sexy to stop arguing or fighting.

JOY
I have been experiencing moments of pure joy lately. It all started when I consciously decided to shift my thought to seeing the beautiful in life. Believe me it hasn't been easy, in light of all the bad news in the world. But ever since I took a class in spiritual physics (metaphysics) I began to practice "reversing my thought" and looking up. Literally looking up at the treetops, at the higher laws in operation. In other words, the spiritual invisible goodness running things. Now I'm madly in love with life, people, trees, flowers, nature — and I'm seeing things I never saw before! It's amazingly beautiful out there. I'm seeing more and more beautiful objects of creation.

I have also shed my jealousy of others and have begun to see everything with new eyes. Suddenly a new sense of compassion and love for strangers in the news and on the street — even people who seem gruff and don't smile back. I saw a sad-looking Hispanic gardener on our street the other day, and I silently blessed him. He looked up and beamed back at me. Think of all the people who seem invisible, as if no one cares about their burdens.

My ideal day: going on a road trip with the kids in the back of the minivan. We went to Tahoe over the holidays, and I can't tell you how majestic the snow-covered treetops are as you drive up to Lake Tahoe. It looks like heaven. In fact the town we went to is called "Heavenly." I get a calm peaceful feeling whenever I see a picture of Tahoe or Sedona, so I keep a postcard of Heavenly, right by my computer.

For the past few years I have not behaved in a very admirable way toward my husband. He used to annoy me when he wouldn't listen or care about anything I was interested in, especially politics. But I began to look at him differently. Everytime he annoyed me I would thank him for the good. I became sweeter and more loving and lately, I have fallen back in love with him. The kids are actually nicer too.

Joy is coming back. Despite the horror stories in the news, I truly believe that if we keep our eyes on the "beautiful, the good and the true" as Paul said -- if we "think on these things" and we will bring these into our lives proportionate to our thought.

Man is the offspring of Spirit. The beautiful, good, and pure constitute his ancestry. - Mary Baker Eddy.

In reality, man is not material, he is spiritual. We are just so focused on the material, we forget where we came from and what we're made of. Man's misguided belief in duality (his belief in a devil, in "evil as a force" as big as God) causes most of his problems. But THERE IS NO OPPOSING FORCE. I know it seems like there is, and this is difficult to wrap your mind around, but try it. Try focusing on only the good in life. It will change everything. Only good is real and eternal. But as I said earlier, I know peace isn't always sexy.

Paul wrote, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things (Philippians 4:8). Paul’s list contains elements that all point to God.

Paul’s list contains “things that are honest,” “things that are just,” “things that are pure,” “things that are lovely,” “things that are of good report,” “virtue and praise.” And, he tells us to think on these things. All of these things lead us to a life that is peaceful in Christ. Paul tells us to “think on these things.” We are to keep them in our mind. He wrote in Romans, “For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace” (Romans 8:6).

We are to be anxious for nothing (Philippians 4:6): we are to put our trust in God. We are to pray to Him for everything: “but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God” (Philippians 4:6). And we are to meditate on Holy things.

This is THE SECRET. They just left out the Christ.

Life is short, break the rules, forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably, and never regret anything that made you Smile (except really mean thoughts about George Bush.)

PETRAEUS LINKED TO SUICIDE IN IRAQ
EVERYONE: PLEASE READ THE ARTICLE BELOW ABOUT NEW EVIDENCE THAT CAME TO LIGHT SURROUNDING COL WESTHUSING'S SUICIDE. NOW IS THE TIME. THE CRIMINALS MUST GO.
This says it all: the anti-Christian greed and evil of the Bush administration, the corruption of the generals whom Bush put in place of the REAL generals who told him this war was a disaster.

All morning I've been praying for the world: for our troops' children and Iraqi children who have lost their fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters; for our precious, barely-out-of-high school troops; for the Iraqi people, for all suffering people of the world. Today will be a day of light and a new beginning. We can only go forward. But now is the time, the criminals must go. They have no place in this new world we are creating. The selfish, fundamentalist, divisive mindset of "neoconservatism" is a blight on mankind.

I've also been praying for our administration and our Congress to see the light. We can stop this war, stop this insanity, impeach Bush & Cheney & Rove, get rid of the debauched, corrupt, heinous neo-conservative mindset, which is truly anti-Christian.

NOW IS THE TIME. THE CRIMINALS MUST GO.

Gen. Petraeus Linked To High-Profile Suicide in Iraq

Col. Ted Westhusing, a West Point scholar, put a bullet in his head in Iraq after reporting widespread corruption. His suicide note -- complaining about human rights abuses and other crimes -- was addressed to his two commanders, including Gen. David Petraeus, now leader of the U.S. "surge" effort in Iraq. It urged them to "Reevaluate yourselves....You are not what you think you are and I know it."

ABUSE OF POWER

THIS IS AN ARTICLE WRITTEN IN 2007 BY ARIANNA HUFFINGTON BOUT KARL ROVE, DICK CHENEY  AND PROMINENT REPUBLICANS RUSHING TO WAR IN IRAQ! IT MENTIONS A WATERGATE PARODY BY BOB WOODWARD WHO WROTE "ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN."  WHAT COULD POSSIBLY BE 'SENSITIVE' ABOUT THIS?

Clif posted this astounding article today Volunteer Soldiers Devastated by Iraq Weren't "Asking for It"

From Arianna Huffington Huffington Post

"We're inside the White House now."

So says Bob Woodward, as portrayed by Robert Redford, in All the President's Men. He was, of course, talking about Watergate, a scandal in which the White House criminally used various arms of government for partisan political purposes.

Sound familiar? It will if you've been following the sordid saga of the firing of eight U.S. Attorneys by the Justice Department.

And, as of this weekend, we're inside the White House now. In an interview with McClatchy Newspapers, Alan Weh, chairman of the New Mexico Republican Party revealed that in 2005 he asked a White House staffer who worked for Karl Rove for help in getting rid of U.S. Attorney David Iglesias, then followed up directly with Rove in 2006. Weh was unhappy that Iglesias refused to rush an investigation of Democratic officials in time for the '06 election.

According to Weh, his conversation with the Boy Genius went like this:

Weh: "Is anything ever going to happen to that guy?"

Rove: "He's gone."

You can almost picture Rove letting out a satisfied laugh and pressing a button on his desk, a la Dr. Evil, causing a trapdoor thousands of miles away to open under Iglesias' chair.

"He's gone." Unfortunately for Rove, so is Scooter Libby. "Cheney's Cheney" took the fall for "Bush's Brain" once already, but now that he's gone, who will be the one to fall on his sword for the president's beloved thug? Maybe Rove can give Libby a call and convince him to take the hit on this one too, with Bush offering up a pardon two-fer in January 2009.

As could be expected, Weh has already started to backpedal, telling the AP that "Rove has little or nothing to do with this."

It doesn't take one of Fox's hotshot fifth graders to figure out that someone got to Weh after the McClatchy story broke. Before his name surfaced in connection to the scandal, Rove was playing down its importance, saying at a speech in Arkansas: "My view is this is unfortunately a very big attempt by some in the Congress to make a political stink about it." But now that the Turd Blossom has hit the fan, it's the White House that is starting to reek.

Not that we should be surprised by any of this. It's just one more vile example of how Bush treats every part of the executive branch: instead of protecting the environment, the E.P.A. is used to weaken it; the V.A. screws veterans; the State Department campaigns against diplomacy; the F.D.A. undermines food safety. And now the injustice at Justice. The Bushies have a long history of playing fast and loose with the law -- evading it, stretching it, getting around it, weakening it, ignoring it, nullifying it.

But now that this use of the Justice Department for partisan advantage is unraveling, Rove and the White House must know the investigations will continue to gather steam. Just yesterday the New York Times called for the ouster of Alberto Gonzalez, as did Senator Chuck Schumer on Face the Nation.

It's an outrage that U.S. Attorneys were fired because of their unwillingness to go along with the abuse of the judicial system being imposed from the top. But the real scandal lies in those who did go along with the abuse. According to a recent study reported by TPMmuckracker.com, 79 percent of elected officials and candidates under federal investigation between 2001 and 2006 were Democrats, and only 18 percent were Republican.

Hard to believe that's just a coincidence and that the pressuring phone calls we've learned about are the only ones that were made. Now that Democrats have the power of subpoena, we can finally uncover the White House connection to those calls. Indeed, according to Newsweek, the list of which U.S. attorneys whose heads were to go on the chopping block was generated by Kyle Sampson, Alberto Gonzales's chief of staff, "with input from the White House."

"Input from the White House." Who do you suppose gave that input? Who in the White House is really, really helpful with giving "input" on people whose integrity stands in the way of amassing and abusing more power?

The biggest scandals always start slowly. This one is just beginning to boil, and you can bet it's not going to be a fun year to be "inside the White House" as congressional investigators, journalists, and bloggers fill in the gaps of what's shaping up to be one of the worst abuses of our judicial system since Woodward met with Deep Throat in that parking garage.

We might even be in for a slightly rewritten sequel to this cinematic exchange:

DEEP THROAT: The little jerks are now running our government.

WOODWARD: Who? Be specific. How high up?

DEEP THROAT: You'll We'll have to find that out, won't you we?

Indeed we will. The only question is: Who will play Rove? Suggestions?

THE COVERUP: AN AMERICAN TRAGEDY

"Economic domination through warmongering." - Hilary Rosen

GOOGLE IMAGE SHACK
In legal terms, the jury has spoken in the Libby case. In political terms, Dick Cheney is still awaiting a judgment. For weeks, Washington watched, mesmerized, as the trial of I. Lewis Libby Jr. cast Vice President Cheney, his former boss, in the role of puppeteer, pulling the strings in a covert public relations campaign to defend the Bush administration’s case for war in Iraq and discredit a critic. - From the New York Times: By SHERYL GAY STOLBERG

“There is a cloud over the vice president,” the prosecutor, Patrick J. Fitzgerald, told the jury in summing up the case last month.

This is not a simple coverup, this is an absolute tragedy. There are lives at stake; we've lost thousands of our own soldiers in an illegal, mismanaged war. And hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians have died in the needless bloodshed, including children. Two little boys searched for their 3-year old sister in the rubble of their apartment, after a car bomb went off. All they found was her hand clutching her teddy bear. What Cheney, Rove and Bush have done to this beautiful world, is criminal. I am a student of metaphysics, and believe that the more we view our fellow man with fear, hatred and negativity — the more we increase these evils, the very things we don't want. The new book THE SECRET basically says the same thing: what you focus on, grows. But when it comes to crimes like this, "Silence is complicity," in the words of Edmund Burke. I waver between wanting to see Bush, Cheney, Rove and Coulter as "spiritually sick" people who need our prayers on one hand — and corrupt criminals who have no compassion for their fellow man. It's a dilemma.

A WAR MOTHER: Marsha Walker's son survived a suicide bomb in Iraq. "...Military personnel have sworn an oath to uphold the Constitution, not an allegiance to this President-whose own mother, of course, did not have to endure being a "blue star" mom for a similar senseless war. This war is illegal, goes against the Constitution. A person of my background does NOT make these accusations lightly." Marsha says she felt an obligation to correct misinformation. Just four months before, her son Chris was part of a convoy outside Baghdad ambushed by a suicide bomber. From Earl Brockenfeld's radio blog: radio.weblogs.com/ 0107064/2005/07/

WHY THE LIBBY VERDICT IS SO DAMNING by Arianna Huffington
Before the GOP spin machine kicks into high gear, shouting from the mountain tops that the Libby verdict is just about making false statements to the FBI, and that no one was ever charged with the underlying crime of outing Valerie Plame, let's make it clear that Libby was found guilty not just of perjury but of obstructing justice -- obstructing justice in order to encumber the investigation and keep secret the dark, ugly truth about how the White House sought to cover up its lies about Iraq and its efforts to intimidate and silence critics of the administration.

But the cover ups are unraveling. And they are unraveling at a speed and in a quantity that guarantee Bush's legacy will both be marked by the tragedy of the Iraq war, and soiled by corruption, indictments, and convictions.

So on the same day that the Libby jury returned its guilty verdict, we have the second day of searing and sickening testimony about the way we've been treating our wounded troops at Walter Reed, and Congressional hearings investigating the sudden firing of eight U.S. attorneys for allegedly being too zealous in their prosecution of GOP corruption. And with Democrats back in control of Congress we can expect more of the same over the next 22 months.

Following the verdict, one of the Libby jurors asked reporters, "Where's Rove? Where are these other guys?" The answer: waiting for a whole flock of chickens to come home to roost.
HUFFINGTON POST

NEW ITEM: It's too bad the corporate culture is so deeply entrenched in hurting the American worker. It's beyond Bush and Cheney and Rove. In L.A. just now, a sweat shop owner was busted. It was discovered he had 91 million dollars in U.S. Government contracts to make Army uniforms. Using slave labor in horrid conditions. Employees were docked $20 for taking bathroom breaks over 2 minutes....

CPAC: ANN COULTER'S CRIMINAL INTENT Part 2

God Bless our Vets and Troops. The WALTER REED HOSPITAL SCANDAL is more important than Ann Coulter, but I promised to get the whole Coulter-Borchers incident posted in Borcher's own words before we move on. Tonight's news was riveting as wounded vets testified against the bureacracy. One soldier, whose leg was blown off, was reported having to fill out 22 pages of paperwork before being treated.

Borchers caught this photo of the unknown "cameraman" who followed him, and seemed to be grinning most the time while Borchers was being harrassed by four CPAC/Coulter bodyguards.

This contains Dan Borchers entire statement of exactly what happened to him at CPAC on Friday.

By Lydia Cornell with Dan Borchers

On Friday March 2, 2007 at 11:15 a.m. I called my co-author Dan Borchers of Citizens for Principled Conservatism, http://www.principledconservative.org/ to see how he was doing.
He told me he was at CPAC, having a great time, and had gone to several seminars. I asked him if Ann Coulter was going to speak. He said she was scheduled for later in the day, but that it was probably standing room only. Dan said he was about to interview Mark Smith, an author. Forty-five minutes later, around 12 noon, I got a frantic call from Borchers. He sounded panicked and said, “I've just been assaulted and kicked out of the conference.” I said, “What? Why?” He said, “I don't know, they wouldn't say. But I was wrestled out of the hotel by four bodyguards, one I recognized as being Ann Coulter's - and they shoved me and tried to grab my name tag. They were incredibly hostile; one of them grabbed at me and cut my hand. They wouldn't say who they were.” I told him he should call the police, file a police report. He then told me he was being filmed the entire time, and the cameraman was grinning, as if it was a "set up." He said they forcibly pushed him out of the (Omni Shoreham) Hotel and told him he better get to his car. By the time he got to the parking lot, he said one of the bodyguards was waiting for him. He threatened him. You can read Dan's own account in his own words below.

This is an older photo of the same bodyguard who threatened, wrestled and grabbed Borchers, whom Borchers described as incredibly hostile and menacing. From Dan Borchers: “In September of last year, I sought press credentials for CPAC 2007. Floyd Resnick, Director of CPAC Security, denied those credentials. Resnick was described in Time magazine as “a bourbon-drinking ex-cop who says, quite believably, that he can kill with his bare hands.” I then registered online for a three-day conference pass, paying the $100 fee via credit card, and I received an email acknowledgement confirming my registration. That email acknowledgement was auto-signatured by CPAC Director Lisa De Pasquale.

On March 1, 2007, the morning of the first day of the conference, I arrived at the Omni Shoreham Hotel (2500 Calvert Street NW. Washington, District of Columbia 20008) and registered for the conference. I was immediately given a name badge with my name pre-printed on it: “Dan Borchers, Odenton, MD.”

That day and the next, I listened to speeches, toured the exhibition hall, took photographs, spoke with friends and conducted interviews. During both days, I spoke several times with Ian Walters, an employee of CPAC who has known me since 2002. Everything seemed fine.

At around 1 p.m. on Friday, March 2, 2007, I spoke with author and attorney Mark W. Smith, whom I had previously interviewed a few years earlier at a different venue, and I asked him a few questions which he readily agreed to. His manner was friendly and accommodating. But then I dared to ask a question about Ann Coulter and the Paula Jones case. At that point, Smith interrupted the interview for about ten minutes, then returned and we resumed the interview.

In less than an hour, probably a few minutes before 2 p.m., I was accosted by Floyd Resnick and several other people. Resnick appeared out of nowhere and stood in front of me, body-blocking me. His manner was very confrontational and hostile as he demanded to know who I was. He asked me my name, turned my name badge over to see my name, and then tried to forcibly remove that name badge from around my neck.

At no time did any of the individuals identify themselves by name.

Resnick insisted that I leave the premises and claimed that I was not authorized to be there. I told him that I had registered and paid to attend the conference. He said that my money had been refunded. All the while he insisted that I leave as he kept trying to get my name badge.

After insisting that I be able to retrieve my belongings, Resnick and his crew rushed me to the area where my belongings were located. Resnick continued to try to get my name badge, struggling with me. Once again, at no point did anyone offer any identification or credentials, so I was reluctant to relinquish the one proof of authorization that I had in my possession.

My belongings were near the booth for Muslims for America. I had to pass by the co-founder of that organization, Muhammad Ali Hasan (his phone number is 310-770-6953), to get my possessions.

I reached into my pocket to get my digital voice recorder in order to document what was taking place. At that point, my name badge was in my left hand extended far from Resnick, who then lunged forward, his body against mine, as he ripped the name badge from my hand. It was at that time that my hand was cut - a very minor cut - between my thumb and forefinger.

The Chief of Security for Omni Shoreham was also there. He didn't give me his name, though he later gave his title. He was conciliatory, stating that I would have to go through CPAC for any redress against them, but he was also firmly insistent that I leave the premises because I was not a guest of the hotel. They escorted me out through the curtain separating the basement exhibit hall from a maintenance area and exiting the building, past trash cans and parking. They carefully avoided all of the press in the area, yet throughout this incident, another person was filming the entire event from the beginning.

I repeatedly demanded that I get a copy of that video and the person who later identified himself as the chief of security for the hotel kept reassuring me that I would be given a copy.

We arrived outside the front entrance of the hotel. I was refused re-admittance to the hotel, blocked by their words and their bodies. The Omni Shoreham Chief of Security took my coat check and retrieved my coat, giving it to me.

While he was retrieving my coat, I kept asking the other men, as they circled around me, who they were and why they were doing this. They refused to identify themselves. Resnick did not give me his name, but he eventually told me that he was the chief of security for CPAC and that he was the one who had denied my press credentials. (That's how I know his name.) Meanwhile, we had quite an audience with people at the hotel entrance questioning themselves about what was taking place before their very eyes.

I attempted to take a picture of Resnick at 2:05 p.m., but that photo did not turn out (perhaps the FBI can recover the digital photo). I did take a picture of the cameraman at 2:06 p.m.

After receiving my coat, I was told to leave. I left, walked down the driveway, turned right on Calvert Street, crossed 24th Street and waited at the intersection for the light to change so that I could cross Calvert Street toward the Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan metro station.

The cameraman was still filming me! Students at that intersection were staring in wonder at what was taking place, asking each other what was going on.

The light changed, I crossed the street and took the two escalators down to the metro station. I turned back to see if the cameraman was still there. He wasn't. Instead, one of Resnick's people, still unidentified, was stalking me. I approached him. He told me I'd better get on the train. He refused to answer my questions or identify himself. Nor did he say what would happen if I did not get on the train, though he ominously held his cell phone conspicuously ready to put to his ear.

As I reached into my pocket, my mysterious stalker threatened me! He said, “If you take out your camera, I'll smash it into a thousand pieces.”

I turned, went through the turnstile and spoke to the metro attendant who was on duty. Turning, I pointed to my stalker and said, “That man is harassing me.” I then briefly explained the situation and the verbal threat. I pulled out my camera to take a photo and my stalker turned and walked away, putting his cell phone to his ear.

After getting the name of my metro station witness, I took that metro train to where my car was parked. At that time I discovered the bleeding cut to my hand. However minor, it is evidence of the assault (photo taken at 2:34 p.m.).

I called the DC police at 2:46 p.m. (cell phone time). A unit arrived about one hour later. I told them my story and showed them the cut on my hand, but they were unable to help because they were from a different district. The name of one of the officers was Officer Douglas A. McAndrew (Badge # 2471).

It is worth noting that Floyd Resnick, Director of CPAC Security, is also Ann Coulter's personal bodyguard and that CPAC Director Lisa De Pasquale is also one of Ann Coulter's publicists. They are seeking to silence me, a conservative who is critical of Ann Coulter.

On March 3, 2007, I received a certified letter from CPAC refunding my registration fee. They had mailed it on Saturday, February 24, 2007, but it didn't arrive at the Odenton Post Office until March 2, 2007, while I was at CPAC. I did not receive that letter until Saturday, March 3, 2007, the day after being accosted at the CPAC convention.

In that letter, Lisa De Pasquale cites my “past behavior at CPAC” as the reason for not permitting me at CPAC, without describing what that behavior was. It was, of course, my CPAC 2002 press kit critical of Ann Coulter.

On March 5, 2007, I spoke with Rafaello McKeython, Chief of Security for the Omni-Shoreham Hotel (202-234-0700) and one of the four individuals copied on De Pasquale's letter to me. [Floyd Resnick was also copied on that letter.] When I asked for a copy of the tape, Mr. McKeython said: “I didn't promise you a tape. They haven't gotten a copy for me yet. I don't even have a copy for myself. They just finished their conference on Saturday and I was off that day. I asked the gentlemen for a copy. Call me back on Wednesday and I should have it by then.”

At approximately 1:50 p.m., I spoke with Police Officer A. DeLosSantos (Badge # 2271) of the Third District. After describing the incident, Officer De LosSantos refused to file a police report on this incident and refused to initiate an investigation into what took place.” - Dan Borchers

The original letter accepting Borcher's registration, sigined by Lisa de Pasquale, as well as photographs Borchers took while being manhandled, are available upon request.

Note: Borchers and I been collaborating on a couple of projects together, including a book from a left wing and right wing Christian perspective. I am not at liberty to discuss the project here. Dan Borchers is a lifelong Republican, a conservative military veteran, whose only crime is being morally offended at the way conservatism has been ruined by people like Coulter, who claims to be a Christian, but indulges in hate-speak and amoral, felonious behavior. He believes it is his moral obligation to bring attention to this, and that "evil triumphs when good men do nothing."

Borchers is the most mild-mannered, humble Christian. He is critical of the way Ann Coulter has "mainstreamed extremism" and has written articles about her. He accused her of plagiarizing her early books, and at the CPAC conference two years ago, he tried to distribute press kits calling for Coulter to stop her hate speak.

Just a few hours ago, my friend Dan Borchers — a conservative Christian who is writing a book about Ann Coulter's "extermination speak" — was bodily wrestled out of CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) by four of Ann Coulter's bodyguards. More below.... but first this:

  • This Saturday morning, March 3, we will interview Paul Waldman of Media Matters on his amazing new book "BEING RIGHT IS NOT ENOUGH: What Progressives Must Learn From Conservative Success." Our show, Basham And Cornell Progressive Talk is broadcast LIVE at 9 am PST Saturday mornings on 1230 AM KLAV in Las Vegas, simulcast on the internet. Last Saturday February 24, we had the pleasure of interviewing former federal prosecutor Elizabeth de la Vega, author of the new bestseller "U.S. vs BUSH" The Case for Impeachment. It was a fascinating interview.

Doug Basham was on Lou Dobbs last week as one of America's "top talkers." Check out Doug's site for a list of all the incredible guests he has interviewed and see what Senate Majority leader Harry Reid, Pat Buchanan, Joe Conason, Daniel Ellsberg, Catherine Crier, Helen Thomas, Caspar Weinberger, Lou Dobbs, Congress people and best-selling authors say about Doug Basham: Basham Radio

ANN COULTER'S CRIMINAL INTENT AT CPAC continued...
Two of these goons claimed they were CPAC security, but Borchers recognized the most hostile one as Coulter's longtime bodyguard. It appeared that they staged the whole thing, for they were following him with a camera. During the altercation, they cut Borcher's hand, tried to pry his name tag and credentials off his neck, physically WRESTLED him out of the hotel, and shoved him. Why? Borchers couldn't get a straight answer out of the four guards, except "you are not permitted to be here."

Borcher's crime: asking a question of another author (Mark Smith) about Ann Coulter's involvement in the Paula Jones case. Borchers spent money, bought expensive tickets, took time off work and traveled from Maryland as he does every year, to be at CPAC. Lisa DePasquale, the head of CPAC and Human Events, sent Borchers his tickets and wrote him a nice letter welcoming him to the conference. He is a lifelong Republican, a conservative military veteran, whose only crime is being morally offended at the way conservatism has been ruined by people like Coulter, who claims to be a Christian, but indulges in hate-speak and amoral, felonious behavior. The news needs to know about this. More to come.
