This is a no-brainer
1. Gays exist. Gay people exist in society and in nature. This is not a choice. No one decides to be "straight" Whether one is gay or straight is not a decision that is consciously made.
2. Gays are human
3. Therefore gays deserve the same civil rights all humans have.
Why shouldn't Elton John be allowed to sanctify his life-partner relationship with a legitimate marriage ceremony?
Why Fundamentalist Christians Are Wrong on Gay MarriageDo you honestly think gay people don't exist? Do you think Elton John is just a court jester, trained seal — a musical genius-entertainer put on earth just for your listening pleasure? Does he have no right to a personal life? Is he a slave, here to simply entertain others with his musical genius? Why shouldn't Elton John be allowed to sanctify his life-partner relationship with a legitimate marriage ceremony? Why would you deny any human being the same rights you have? Why is his personal life your business? How arrogant! How inhumane!
1. Christ said: "Leave judgment and vengeance to God.
2. Christ said: "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
2. Christ said: "My Kingdom is of the spirit, not the flesh. (Meaning he couldn't have cared less about human mortal laws, Kosher laws, laws of the flesh, having to do with sfood or clothing or sexuality. He had nothing to say about legalistic, pharisaical laws. All He cared about was "how much love is in our hearts; how we treat our fellow man. And how we treat the "least among you" (the poor, the widow, and the orphan.)
4. Christ was never bothered by anything EXCEPT the money-changers (greed) and the power brokers or religious leaders with their cruel laws and dogmatic rules that oppressed the poor. All Christ cared about was how you treated your neighbor, your fellow man and those less fortunate. Like a drop of water in the ocean, we are at one with Source of Love.
ON LOVE, MARRIAGE AND HOMOPHOBIA
"I'm a little surprised to find that living in a climate of wider acceptance for same-sex relationships also makes a huge difference in my personal happiness level. In a hostile climate it really is challenging to sidestep the trap of internalized homophobia, and we fall into patterns that reinforce the stereotypes (e.g., gay relationships don't last).
Practically my whole life I have felt subtle, subconscious feelings of being less deserving of love and companionship because I'm not part of the "norm". So, normalizing same sex relationships to the point of pushing for equal marriage rights actually feels like the right thing to do - even though it's scary, and I've had mixed feelings about it, politically.
In truth, I guess it didn't seem important enough so long as I wasn't in a relationship I felt was worth fighting for. Or maybe I was simply resigned to settling for outsider status -- like a kid with her nose pressed up against the glass, outside looking in at all the happy couples, all the while covering up her wistfulness with a smug refusal to participate in the bourgeois dance of the "breeders". A rebel, not an outsider, or so I thought. As if that was going to get me anywhere!
I think maybe because of these subconscious beliefs I was (as many of us were) choosing to be in relationships that I knew were only temporary. As society moves toward embracing love and coupling and marriage for all, I think we'll see a healthier, stabilizing effect on society as a whole. Happy people make for a happy, productive society. None of us is free so long as some are still unfree, I think the saying goes - as in, life, liberty and the pursuit of said happiness.
Now that I'm getting happier and healthier and more emotionally sober I've been able to choose to let love in fully, to really allow myself to love and be loved unconditionally. It's a miraculous and beautiful journey - from darkness to light, from ignorance to self-knowledge. I know there are lots of haters out there, but the sole fact that as a society we are participating in a dialogue at all is eons from where we were when I first came out of the closet in 1978 - not to mention the pre-Stonewall days of the "love that dare not speak its name"."
The only "sin" is hating, judging, hurting, harming, throwing stones, and not being compassionate toward others. Love your neighbor as yourself. The only sin Christ spoke of was being unkind. The only other item he mentioned was DIVORCE. But you don't see good Christians outside of courthouses protesting the sin of divorce, do you?
IF YOU'RE AGAINST GAY MARRIAGE, JUST DON'T MARRY A GAY PERSON or WHY FALSE PROPHETS AND OTHER MISGUIDED "CHRISTIANS" ARE WRONG ON GAY MARRIAGE
This is an updated article from a spiritual political book I wrote, which will be released after the comedy books.
Chelsea Handler: "I have never been more proud of my LGBT friends and the beautiful families they're raising —- and I think it's time we all do what we can to get them equal rights already. "
First I have to tell you something my radio co-host Doug Basham said after he saw Katie Couric ask Sarah Palin about gay rights. Palin answered that one of her best friends is gay, and that her pal "made a choice that isn't a choice that I have made.” Basham said, “I wish Couric had asked Palin, 'Do you remember the exact moment you chose to become heterosexual?'"
My sister is gay, and she never made a choice, but that’s beside the point. The marriage contract is a private contract between two individuals. How does it hurt anyone to let two souls honor their monogamy by allowing them the sanctity and dignity of marriage, as other human beings have a right to? Isn’t this in the Bill of Rights? I am heartsick at the bigotry I see in America today. I can’t believe my sister may never have the same rights I have! And furthermore, according to Suze Orman — as it stands now, civil unions do not permit the transfer of a deceased person's estate to the partner. Next of "kin" is first in line.
After my Ann Coulter death threats and hate-mail settled down simply for defending the Golden Rule, one thing became clear: certain "Old Testament" Christians are obsessed with the sexual immorality of others — to the exclusion of any other sin, including their own sins of pride and judgment — which by the way, were the only sins Jesus ever cared about or actually mentioned! Sexual immorality was not even on Christ’s radar, as was clear when the mob was stoning the prostitute: “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.”
I find it interesting that he did condemn divorce, but since divorce is rampant among most religious sects, even evangelicals, it's odd that you never see religious people picketing courthouses to abolish divorce :)
All this talk about Christ’s return and the "Rapture" misses the point entirely. I've prayed about this and been given a revelation of my own: when humans can love each other unconditionally — love their enemies and neighbors as themselves — then the so-called Rapture will happen. It will not be a big Broadway show; it will be a change in consciousness. This is the Second Coming. It will occur in the hearts of men.
The Ku Klux Klan also used the Bible to justify killing Blacks. Where are all the reasonable, sane people of faith who actually follow Christ’s teachings?
Maybe they don't realize that 'Christ' is the root of the word 'Christianity' because the vowel sounds are different! They often espouse the EXACT OPPOSITE of Christ’s teachings. If fundamentalists take the Bible literally, then why don’t they take Christ’s actual words literally?
There's a cartoon I saw shortly after the 2004 election: I can't remember the exact words, but two pot-bellied Rednecks are standing around drinking beer, happy with being red: "Well, my son lost his legs in Iraq, veteran benefits got cut, lost my pension plan to Enron, got laid-off down at the plant, they cancelled my health insurance, Bush vetoed stem cells which would have saved my daughter’s life from brain cancer -- BUT I'M SURE AS HELL GLAD THOSE TWO GAYS DOWN THE STREET CAN'T GET MARRIED!"
We’re a nation ruled by several opposing forces: the atheist, the optimist, the materialist — and of course, the idiot — that person inside all of us (or just fundamentalists and neocons) who choose to remain unconscious.
What is so strange is that modern-day fundamentalists often condone the death penalty quite casually, yet think fetal cells in a Petri dish are too sacred to be used for stem cell research in order to save lives! This seems highly immoral to me.
I can’t imagine what it must be like to be gay or lesbian in America today. There is a “Christian” group that has a website called "Godhatesfags.com" that displays an animated picture of Matthew Shepherd surrounded by flames, burning in hell. Shepherd was brutally murdered in Wyoming, the victim of a hate crime.
Instead of seeing the beauty and unique goodness of the gay person — his artistic gifts of design or dance, the sweetness of his spirit, his yearning to be accepted and to bury the agony of being bullied as a child or of being “born different" — the morally repulsed “Christian” chooses the easy way: hatred.
My son’s best friend and his brother are being raised by a gay male couple, who are scholars and wonderful parents. Both children are completely "straight" and have girlfriends already. The family considered moving to Canada out of fear. They are very afraid of the hateful Christian ruling elite in America. I can’t think of anything more un-Christlike than an intolerant “Christian.”
It saddens me that many in the religious right have taken their obsession with morality and their fear of Hollywood to such an extreme they've lost compassion for their fellow man. They have become homophobic, disdainful of the poor and cruel toward any human who does not meet their rigorous standards — while ignoring their own pride, the character flaw which annoyed Christ the most!
Intolerance is the easy way out, and many will go through this wide, broad gate. Very few will squeeze through the "narrow gate" of turning the other cheek and loving one's enemies. It's easy to judge others from a position of moral superiority; it's difficult to look kindly upon criminals, prisoners, "sinners." It's difficult to love "the other," as Christ commanded us to do. Most fundamentalist right-wing Christians these days refuse to look at their enemy as a whole human being. They are ruled by primitive fears that totally contradict Christ’s entire mission: to love one another for love casts out fear.
Some more notes..
The more one pushes something down, the more it rears its ugly head in inappropriate places; perversions appear. This explains why celibacy in priests acts like a pressure cooker, often resulting in crimes of molestation. Celibacy is unnatural; too much pent up desire perverts itself. Like Pandora’s box, whatever is taboo becomes irresistibly tempting. People will sneak out of their cages to experience the forbidden.
So the Puritan, guilt-ridden over his own uncontrollable urges, cannot live with himself. Unable to cut out his own base, lustful thoughts, he looks outside himself for someone to blame and project his guilt onto. The easiest way to ameliorate his shame is to broadcast the evil, project it onto others where he can externalize it, see it as separate from himself – and lash at it with swords. This way he can feel morally superior. It's a quick fix. He investigates it, dwells on its dark side, inflates its evil effects until evil is all he sees. He makes the gay person into an object of disgust.

As a culture we put so much emphasis on the body: on cellular substance of the fetus, the death and burial of a corpse, the saving of an unconscious sack of flesh that contains no life force or spirit, as in the case of Terry Shiavo. We are focused so exclusively on the letter, not the spirit; the style, not the substance; the right hat, not the heart, the ritual, not the meaning — and the flesh which can be wiped out so easily — that it must make me wonder: is flesh man’s most important quality?
At the risk of sounding like a crackpot, I have to say here that I no longer believe in the physical universe as being primary. The invisible harmony is what's real. In other words, the things I know are valuable and real are the things I can’t see with my eyes – the invisible qualities of love, truth, wisdom, soul, principle, thought, harmony, wisdom, compassion, beauty, strength and character – things that cannot be physically touched or scientifically proven.
As Emerson said: "this is a spiritual universe and thoughts rule the world."

Thanks to your sister for this beautiful letter and beautiful post....
ReplyDeleteIt's about love- we all should respect people that love each other...and honor their love ....
it is so simple....and the GOP and the religous right have twisted it...and sadly ....it has become a Civil Rights issue...that is my opionion...
thank your sister...
and thank you for posting this...
namaste....
Totally ridiculous! I wont stand for it!
ReplyDeletePeople Magazine came out with their list of 100 most beautiful people and forgot to include you, Lydia!
Im going to call someone and holler about it!
Thank you MCH! Love you XOXO
DeleteHey, You here Souter is retiring from SCOTUS.............Obama needs to get a young liberal in there that can be a fixture for 30-40 years.
ReplyDeleteThank you Enigma, you are such a great spirit.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mch Lol:)
And thanks mike -- hope you had a great vacation.
Mike, what is going on at the border? Are there any swine flu cases in your town?
Nope, I thinks its the overblown manufactured Britney Spears type sensationalized News just like SARS or Bird Flu was..........what I find "interesting" is that, that IDIOT Gov Rick Perry just declared a state of emergency and asked for BILLIONS of dollars from Obama...........guess he;ll WAIT to secede till AFTER he gets a few billion.
ReplyDeleteMy question is shouldnt it be an impeachable offense to urge acts of treason like secession..........he's preaching to a pretty dim inbred knuckledragging base with that one.
Oh look Will's posting anonymously..........trolling for attention!
ReplyDeleteMike I agree it's overblown. It's eerie -- there's something not right about the sensationalism, the closing of schools. Everyone is acting so fearful in the media, but when I look outside I see a beautiful sunny day (all day today.)
ReplyDeleteThere's an undercurrent of panic, but slow-motion panic.
Freedom from fear...
What i see that "IS" glaringly apparent is that if you staff all the regulatory agencies that are SUPPOSED to protect the public welfare like the FDA, SEC, OSHA, FCC, DOJ with cronny capitalists loyal ONLY to the corporare elite fascists you get EXACTLY what we have today unsafe foods and flu and disease epidemics, polluted water an economuc disaster brought about by reckless speculation, consumer price gouging and nickel and diming with excessive fees and exorbinant usurius interest rares, nonexistent access tocredit to the credit worthy.
ReplyDeleteOur economic and banking system are in shambles, we are teetering on the edge of a Depression with massive unemployment...........all because of the repug obsession with reckless cronny capitalist deregulation.
EVERY single time these IDIOTS come to power they leave us with criminal scandals and economic disasters to have to clean up...........Supply Side economics is nothing but a total failure and a disaster and ANYONE touting it needs to be riddiculed as the laughingstocks they are.
There should be no such thing as a bank or compant that is TOO BIG TO FAIL.........if the SEC, would do its damn job it would have either broken up companies that were TOO BIG TO FAIL or not allowed them to merge in the first place but thats what happens when you allow corporate fascists like the Bush cronnies to GET AWAY with putting the foxes in charge of guarding the hen houses.
ReplyDeleteLydia tell your sister thats a pretty good article.............you sisters a pretty cool person, I emailed her by accident a couple of years ago and we ended up getting in a somewhat indepth discussion even though she probably didnt even know who the hell I was at the time.
ReplyDeleteBut really its a nobrainer NO ONE has the right to control someone else or take away their right to happiness...........and thats EXACTLY what the Orwellian Party of Intolerance tries to do its what they stand for.
Repug stands for racial and sexual intolerance, economic inequality, big obtrusive government, police state surveilance with nonexistent privacy, reckless deregulation, and manipulated cronny capitalism that is the opposite of free market, as well as anti-choice, anti-life and pro-war.
I think that the letter from your sister was a very profound statement.
ReplyDeleteAt least for me.
I think that Gay Marrige is something that is a right by law, government and just plain human equality. There are too many double standards.
One of my greatest heros is Michelle Granda.
Michelle is the woman that pushed and never stopped...until Gay Marrige was legal in Massachusetts. Mitt Romney...criminal slimebag that he is...tried everything in his power to cause hate...rile people up...push his Mormon religious belifs on the public...basically he did everything to dissolve the law.
I urge anyone to google Michelle Granda for her story...and how she fought for what she did.
Just a quick glimpse of her story...
Michelle and her partner were on vacation in the Carribean. They were out on a small boat...enjoying the sun and beautiful sea...
All of a sudden a group of hate filled prejudice guys in a huge speedboat circled them several times before crashing into their boat.
The Coast Guard rescued the women and brought them to the local hospital. Michelle was treated...her damage was bad but she was released.
She tried to find out about her girlfriend...her partner...the 1 true love and light of her life.
She was denied any information...visiting rights...everything.
Michelle's girlfriend died alone on a cold bed without the love of her life there to hold her and hand her back to God.
This story touched me so deeply it doesn't matter what people's personal value system is all about.
It's about...what's right is right...what's good for you is good for me...I have what you have...Equal, Equal, Equal.
The way the Constitution says.
The way Jesus says.
The way I say.
The way it should always have been and the way it always should be.
Jim
Thank you Jim.
ReplyDeleteNew additions up. Look at these amazing pictures. So cool.
ReplyDeleteTwitter is seriously addicting, but I can't figure out why. It's not like you get much feedback.
Following Ashton Kutcher and Mrs. Kutcher (Demi Moore) is quite interesting though.
Follow me on Twitter.com/LydiaCornell
or Facebook
Or not. You can write your feelings out here in a much better way. Twitter only gives you about 60 words to say at a time! It's infuriating...
But I did make some new, enlightened friends, and a few in recovery. The saddest thing is a young girl named Cassie, 13, who died last week from an Ecstacy overdose. Her father reached out to Demi Moore, then I got the message and we all posted prayers to our Facebook pages. Today is Cassie's funeral in Edmonton.
I can't imagine losing a child. My sons are around that age now.
Teens in our neighborhood have been going through some absolutely shocking, jaw-dropping stuff. Everything I'm writing about is coming true, as usual, but at a much faster rate. I used to forsee things and write about them 10 years ahead of their time -- and people would look at me like I'm crazy for even thinking these things could happen. Very specific things, like Archer Daniels Midland, the corn syrup sweetner crimes of monopoly and collusion resulting in the biggest fine in federal history, etc.
ReplyDeleteBut who would believe me?
Anyway, young girls and tweens really need our love and help. They need better role models than Paris Hilton and Pamela Anderson.
They need girls who can keep their clothes on.
I agree with you completely; as the father of two small girls, I look with disdain at the women who get the most media attention. I also see a very overt attempt to try to force women into a box; thou shalt not worry thy pretty little head about what thy Government is doing. Thou shalt shop!
ReplyDeleteI don't know how it was that society decided to not honor intelligent women with the kind of attention that a Britney gets, but it really is time for it to stop. Why can't we celebrate HHS Secretary Sebelius, or Secretary of State Clinton (who is doing a GREAT job, never mind the Hill-haters who can't let go of a grudge.)
That was a fantastic post, Lydia. I'm delighted to see that the comments for this post isn't littered with troll diatribes. Very refreshing for once!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Jacq. (I know, you're right! It's refreshing. How did that happen?)
DeleteThank you JR and JACQ! Great to hear from you.
ReplyDeleteJr, I love what you said about honoring intelligent women with the kind of attention Britney gets.
It's so interesting. George Clooney, who is a male sex symbol, gets attention for his humanitarian causes and good deeds -- and I applaud him.
But Angelina Jolie, an ambassador for the U.N. and an impassioned activist against the genocide in Darfur -- usually gets attention for everything BUT her good deeds.
Of course she has been rather busy, but pregnancy is a personal thing. Why can't they focus on her humanitarian activities?
Question: Who are the young female role models that inspire young girls?
ReplyDeleteThe answer isn't necessarily a good one. I may sound like a tight a.., but I don't let Barbie or Bratz dolls in my house. I see them as the beginning of the indoctrination. I want my daughters to take their potential seriously.
ReplyDeleteSadly, I see the Britneys and the Christinas as the ones the young girls look up to most of the time. But I also see a media that skews the attention of young girls towards such people.
In My hood...the Biggest role model for young girls is Michelle Obama ...it really makes me smile- young black girls grab every copy of Anything with Michelle Obama that come on the racks at the Store where I work....they truly admire her...and they talk about it-
ReplyDeletethat because of her- they want to go to college....
I don't really know outside my hood WHO young girls are looking up to..I wish I did...
You never love someone for their looks, or their clothes, or for their fancy car, but because they sing a song only you can hear. I say thus judge not that ye be not judged.
ReplyDeleteThere lay a world of vipers midst rows of clover but beware damsels, thy scarlet skin is their young prey.
I'm so sick and tired of hearing this crap that Obama NEEDS to nominate a an Asian or a Woman, or an African American to the Supreme Court............since we were talking about shallow in this thread...............i dont think you can get more shallow than ONLY looking at race or gender for a Supreme Court Nominee.
ReplyDeleteWhat we do crucially need is someone who values and respects the US Constitution and the rights and privacies of average citizens.............less important although it does dovetail with the first point is a liberal to balance out the radical far Right Wing corporatists and facist elements like Alito and Scalia and even the strong Conservative elements like Roberts and Thomas.
Anyone see those repug IDIOTS in that pizzerria what a bunch of shmucks they looked like..........Now i'm not one to defend Sara Palin but I can see why she wouldnt want to be associated with those morons...........Jeb Bush should be embarrassed to even show his face after what that treasonous moron of a brotther did to our country and Eric Cantor is such a pathetic little bitch boy just like Hannity I cant even stand the site of those two.
ReplyDeleteI think Arlen Spectors choice of words was unfortunate when he said "he is not a loyal Demacrat"................a guy that just flipped parties and the repugs are trying to portray as a disloyal traitor and opportunist should not say he is not loyal to his current party her just joined.
ReplyDeleteNow I know what he MEANT and i'm sure Obama did too............but he should have just said I'm not going to be a blindly loyal Demacrat that votes with my party on EVERY issue like a blindly loyal partisan that would have been fine and I think thats what he meant to say rather than saying he is not loyal to his current party just like the repugs are saying.
Do not stand at my grave and weep
ReplyDeleteI am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamonds glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle morning rain.
And when you wake in the morning's hush,
I am the sweet uplifting rush,
Of quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am black , I will not hide.
The color of my skin should be no more a factor than the color of ones eyes.
I offer no apology for my race and I dare anyone to challenge my right to be here.
Web - thank you for the beautiful poem. I checked out your site..
ReplyDeleteFascinating.
And Death didn't say a word,
ReplyDeleteBut he loosed the reins on his pale, white horse,
And he clamped the spurs to his bloodless sides,
And out and down he rode,
Through heaven's pearly gates,
Past suns and moons and stars;
on Death rode,
Leaving the lightning's flash behind;
While we were watching round her bed,
She turned her eyes and looked away,
She saw what we couldn't see;
She saw Old Death. She saw Old Death
Coming like a falling star.
But Death didn't frighten Sister Caroline;
He looked to her like a welcome friend.
And she whispered to us: I'm going home,
And she smiled and closed her eyes.
And Death took her up like a baby,
And she lay in his icy arms,
But she didn't feel no chill.
And death began to ride again
Bigotry should have long ago died
In many quarters it still lives
Until the hatred finally dies
They shall reap what they give
Pardon my confusion but I have yet to understand the topic since the post is all over the terrain, but as my friends filter over here things will change.
ReplyDeleteWhat are you talking about? The post is about her sister's personal feelings about gay marriage.
ReplyDeleteThe post is not "all over the terrain."
who are your friends and what are they gonna do?
ReplyDeleteThank you Web, you and your friends are welcome here. This is a Democratic, Progressive spiritual blog.
ReplyDeleteOur radio show in Las Vegas helped turn Nevada blue for Obama for the first time in years.
I cannot understand racism or bigotry of any kind, and none of that is permitted here. Please go to the archives and read the posts if you want to, going back to 2004.
Thanks! We welcome everyone!
Happy Mother's Day! New blog post is up for the weekend. And this one is a collection of inspiring ideas. Yes, it might be "all over the place" but that's okay.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about love and life and remembered a great quote of Picasso's in Paris.
Please leave comments on the new thread if you would like to.
Have a great weekend and keep your thoughts on the good, the beautiful and the true.
You make your enemies stronger by fighting them, thinking about them, resenting them, worrying about them. Keep your eyes on the good and the good will expand. (Our enemies can be your problems, your worries, the people you hate, etc. )
Sometimes I get so confused in here.

Oops, this is a blog post I wrote about GAY MARRIAGE as a Civil Right.
ReplyDeleteThe Elton John posting is new.
I will repost it in its own blog.
This is important because the Supreme Court is possibly going to take up the whole same-sex marriage issue.

WTF!!!??? Who are all these strange people and what are they doing on my blog???
ReplyDeleteMaybe they would like to challenge MotherDuck at Battlefield 1943....hehe!
Admittedly,I am not "The One" in Battlefield 1943. Man,there are some excellent turban rippers in this game.
ReplyDeleteNevertheless, I am quickly becoming a master turban ripper.
Do you use your right hand, or left hand for that?
ReplyDelete...masterturban that is...
ReplyDeleteI am in dis-belief that X-mas is only two weeks away.
ReplyDeleteI don't hate shopping........I LOATHE it!!
It has to be an "Evil Genius."
ReplyDeleteI mean, how could any supreme, highly intelligent, creator make anything so inane as human beings??????? Additionally, even a creator must wonder where he/she/it evolved from.
I just don't get it.
And, how does something appear from nothing???????
I responded to your questions in the current thread Johnny. At least I think its the current one, its at the top. Please see my responses there.
ReplyDeleteBeing me, I have to say, "If gay people want to marry, let them. Why should straight people get to have all the misery?" A silly answer to a silly made up "crisis".
ReplyDeleteEqual Rights under the law. PERIOD. That's it move on..
Fr.Mike
Sorry for revamping this. I had to. It's an issue now.
ReplyDeleteLove you all.
Please leave new comments also on gun control. What do you think of the NRA? Am I crazy or do they seem off-balance? Why are common sense gun laws even being questioned? Doesn't something have to change if it's clearly not working/ The AKA 47 ban in 1994 has resulted in INCREASED gun violence rampages, not fewer... very strange way to debate an argument.
Can't you see the way the universe responds to our sick worshp of the gun, a weapon of mass destruction? Should the government allow everyone to have a stash of Anthrax or a personal nuclear weapon or a missle in their closet, just in case ya'll need it to kill a group of people with? You think a weapon that can kill 30 people in rapid succession is a normal weapon? Is it really fear driving you or "eye for an eye" renegade justice?
ReplyDeleteIf I believed in evil, which I don't as an objective force -- it is obvious that anyone who is against background checks and banning weapons of mass destruction that are hand-held - is walking the edge.
Every show on TV glorifies violence. Primitive men slashing each other. We seem to have a blood lust that won't quit. My theory is that we are snowballing toward violence so we can find that nothing else will satisfy us but the OPPOSITE OF VIOLENCE. Today in Court where I had to renew my restraining order against the ugliest, most mallicious stalker and human I have ever met, But my job is to not even think of this man. He is nothing. I have to turn the other cheek and see no enemy. I have no enemies. There are no enemies.
The only way out of hell is to realize that there is no hell.
Love is everywhere. The more you look for good, the more you will find it. That is my mission now. I love all my friends, even those who are brainwashed by the gun pushers and the drug pushers.
There is an easier, softer way. Love one another.
Love to you all.
I am turning every tragedy into comedy. And what I most want is for our young people to get their innocence back. We need to be inspired again -- to enjoy life and this beautiful universe!
30 DAYS TO TRANSFORMATION: Get your thoughts right, and everything else will follow. What you focus on GROWS! Each day when you wake up, take a pad and paper and make a list of things you are grateful for, even if it is just that you woke up! You have hands, a pen, eyes to see... or a roof over your head. Add 5 new things each day, or one new thing to be grateful for each day. Do this for 30 days. YOUR ENTIRE LIFE WILL CHANGE. Depression will be gone. I promise you, you will have a healing if you fill your thoughts with the ideas and things you love or want --- and the things you are grateful for.
When we withdraw our attention from our enemies, they expire from neglect.
DEATH IS NOT SEXIER THAN SEX.
The gun has become the god of this country, or at least half of it.
ReplyDeleteSelf professed "Christians" who claim to worship Christ, worship Smith and Wesson first.
Its the Anti-Christ of this country, and their hearts are full of murder. Even the so called "good men" who want to "protect their families" from those "evil thief's" seem to have forgotten Jesus was crucified next to two thief's to whom he said "today thou shalt be with me in paradise".
These men WANT to kill. They WANT to use that gun, and they want to soooo badly. Their hearts are corrupted with murder, and that is why our country now runs red with blood. Our own blood. Because the lust for murder has replaced their desire to do good.
And the NRA is their church, with Wayne Lapierre as their pastor.
ReplyDeleteJesus and his teachings, need not apply.
Self Righteous much?
ReplyDeleteThe weasel speaks. No response, other than personal attacks on the commenter while ignoring the comments.

Republicans Get More Worried About Global Warming
ReplyDeleteBy Stephanie Pappas, LiveScience Senior Writer | LiveScience.com – 2 hours 47 minutes ago
Republicans have become more concerned about climate change in the past couple of years, according to a new Gallup Poll.
Self-identified Republicans are less likely than Democrats to say global warming concerns them, but while Democrats' global warming anxiety has remained relatively steady, Republicans' worry is climbing.
In 2011, just 30 percent of Republicans said they worried a "great deal" or "fair amount" about climate change. This year, that number reached 40 percent.
Where's that 40 percent (the smart ones)?
All we get in here are the dumb ones.
Massive heat wave spreads across United States

NEW YORK, USA - Crowds flocked to waterfronts and swimming pools on the U.S. East Coast and in the Midwest on Thursday to try to cope with a massive heat wave that has killed at least 22 people this week.
The National Weather Service issued excessive heat warnings for wide areas of the central and eastern United States, saying the combined heat and humidity could push the "real feel" temperature to 115 Fahrenheit (46 Celsius) through Saturday.
By Thursday afternoon in New York City, the thermometer hit 91F (33C) but it felt more like 112F (44C), according to AccuWeather.com.
With the promise of refreshing ocean breezes, Boston's whale-watching ships and high-speed tourist boats sold out their trips by mid-morning.
Cooling centers in Richmond, Virginia, and New York City welcomed overheated residents and a truck labeled "Water Fountain on the Go" cruised Manhattan streets, offering to refill water bottles to keep residents hydrated.
Electricity utility Con Edison said scattered outages were likely in New York in coming days with demand expected to hit all-time highs.
It hit 101 in the sun on my thermometer today just after 1:00 PM.
ReplyDeleteBut it just "kaint" be global warming....cuz...a republican clown on the internet tells us so.
Glad he's here to tell us all that it "taint real"...cuz...otherwise how would we know?
ReplyDelete..I mean other than getting Sun Stroke in April that is....
Might actually be a trend ;
ReplyDeleteStudy: Northern hemisphere summers now warmest of last 600 years
Sorta a heating up of the climate from all that formerly sequestered carbon mother nature took hundreds of million years to accumulate being released in a century and a half, by all the human activity to terra-form the planet to suit only our needs, which in the ends ain't really suitable for long term survival.
BTW the planet is heating faster then any of the records from the last 55 million years show happened. The entirety of human existence has evolved in a cooler planet then the one we are creating, and 55 million years ago most of the large mammals went extinct in another warming episode that happened almost 100 times slower then the one we are creating.
PS with out massive amounts of fossil fuels our agriculture is gonna fail miserably to feed the 7 billion human inhabitants of the planet, but if we keep burning fossil fuels the planet will warm to the point where industrial scale mono culture agriculture fails ... which also means we will not be able to feed the 7+ billion people wanting food to survive ....
Interesting dilemma the agriculture system has created for us, cannot stop or billions starve but if we don't it fails and billions starve.
BTW in the mid 80's last couple of days here,
ReplyDeleteriding the bike in tee shirt in early April,
.... not normal riding weather for me ever this early.
Its so hot here I had to turn on the AC and even put in the window units (which I use when the central air isn't enough). My attic is 112 degrees right now, and I'm sweltering.
ReplyDeleteThe plants and flowers are blooming already, yet they're not supposed to start until next month.
Again, I'm so glad we have clowns on the internet like Voltron to tell us all how its normal...otherwise I'd have way of knowing.
My question is, if 50's and 60's in February, and 60's and 70's in March, and now 80's and 90's in April....what the heck is it going to be in JUNE, or AUGUST?
ReplyDeleteLast I heard there is a difference between "Weather" and "Climate"...
ReplyDeleteYes dummytron, the climate creates the local conditions we call weather.
Since we are warming the climate, the local weather is responding by many many new high temps, many many new temps where the lows are higher then historically normal, and very few if any new low temps.
The arctic is warming so much the northern polar jet stream is weakening, and the former normal weather patterns have evolved into extremes where most of the time it is warmer than normal but even some longer periods of relatively cooler temps happen (but not historically colder).
Also the former patterns that farmers have relied on the plant crops are breaking down to the detriment of the 7+ billion who rely on those formerly stable patterns for their daily nutrients, not good if your a country that cannot grow enough to feed it's populace, like happened in Egypt in 2011, after the Russians embargoed it's wheat exports in 2010 after a massive weather related crop failure.
BTW here is the latest drought monitor for the US;
Doesn't look very good for the farmers west of the Mississippi does it? Especially the area known as the Grain Belt .... Not very good for the planets hungry billions if you realise the Russian grain and Australian grain producing regions are also experiencing a drought also.
It's almost as if some power greater than all of humnity is trying to send humanity a message and we are too stupid to listen.
BTW don't expect the drough conditions farmers around the planet are facing to get any better soon;
ReplyDeleteDrought forecast: Bad to worse
Drought conditions in more than half of the United States have slipped into a pattern that climatologists say is uncomfortably similar to the most severe droughts in recent U.S. history, including the 1930s Dust Bowl and the widespread 1950s drought.
The 2013 drought season is already off to a worse start than in 2012 or 2011 — a trend that scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) say is a good indicator, based on historical records, that the entire year will be drier than last year, even if spring and summer rainfall and temperatures remain the same.
This and other changes in the climate is already having a direct effect on certain agriculture areas;
California is expected to see a 70 percent loss in land area that is suitable for wine grape growing, while the greatest amount of land for vineyards opens up in the northwestern United States all the way to Canada's British Columbia.
In these areas, from Yellowstone National Park to Yukon Territory in Canada, animals like grizzly bears, wolves, elk and moose need large spaces of land for roaming.
Wait, stop the presses. One from the Volty side of the house explains it all Clif, and apparently as Voltron keeps telling us, there's nothing to worry about.

Texas Rep. Cites Biblical Flood as Example of Climate Change
By Jilian Fama | ABC OTUS News – 3 hrs ago
In his five-minute remarks today on the Keystone Pipeline, Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, pointed out a "divergence of evidence" on global warming, citing the biblical Great Flood as an example of climate change.
Although Barton acknowledged the changing climate, he compared the changing environment to the biblical story of Noah's Ark and the Great Flood in an attempt to defend his claim that natural tendencies can perpetuate climate change.
"I would point out that if you're a believer in the Bible, one would have to say the Great Flood is an example of climate change, and that certainly wasn't because mankind had overdeveloped hydrocarbon energy," he said.
So now the same guys who've been denying the climates changing, ...now admit its changing...but...its not us causing it.

Its Gods fault.
Sorry but when it comes to science,
ReplyDeleteI rely on science verifiable testable science,
not some 4000 year old second hand stories
that have not any actual testable scientific proof
except the story itself .....
I'm sorta crazy that way,
I like my science testable and verifiable,
not faith based 4000 year old stories. (Unlike the kook from Texas)
..but ..but ...he says its so ..and ....he's really smart so....
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteMaybe this is why the Constitution tells people to keep THEIR religion the hell out of OUR government?

...stupid shit like this?
Rep Barton stupid????
ReplyDeleteProbably the reason he APOLOGISED to BP after their criminal activity in the Deepwater Horizon oil spill circa 2010
Making dumb as dirt comments and in bed with Big Oil certainly what Jesus would want eh?
He's a card carrying fruitcake. Of course most of them are.
ReplyDeleteWhen an entire group of "Presidential Candidates" stands live on television raising their hands to confirm they do NOT believe in science, and instead believe the earth is 6000 years old, ...then you know you're in a party of fruitcakes.
Well he would be the dumbest GOper from Texas, except for the fact Gomer Gomert is also a dumb as dirt congress critter from the Texas corral of dumb as dirt GOpers.
ReplyDeleteI think they breed them down there.
ReplyDeleteHis Mind was Formless and Empty
ReplyDeletePS: historically there is NO evidence in the last 6000 years of any climate change from a large flood, in fact given there is no evidence of any world wide flood.
Given the facts we have historical evidence of people on six of the seven continents over 6000 years old and God supposedly killed everyone BUT Noah and his family, then where is the evidence of where Asian people, African people, American Indian people, Arab people, Aborigine peoples, etc around the planet after the flood??????????
And how did their cultures keep operating exactly as before the supposed flood when all new people had to populate their lands???????
Sorry but the flood story just doesn't hold up to scientific scrutiny .....
..... oh wait he is using his faith based science, not actual verifiable facts isn't he.
The flood is considered by most scholars to have been allegorical, and may have referred to a time period when the earth was covered with water during its formation.
ReplyDeleteRemember we all crawled out of the water.
PS neither did the earth is flat claims
ReplyDeleteIsaiah 40:22 ""He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in."
Job 38:15 "The earth takes shape like clay under a seal." (Clay when stamped under a seal is flattened and round)
or the claims the earth doesn't move;
1 Chronicles 16:30: "He has fixed the earth firm, immovable."
Psalm 93:1: "Thou hast fixed the earth immovable and firm ..."
Psalm 96:10: "He has fixed the earth firm, immovable ..."
Psalm 104:5: "Thou didst fix the earth on its foundation so that it never can be shaken."
Isaiah 45:18: "...who made the earth and fashioned it, and himself fixed it fast..."
or the sun stood still
Joshua 10:13
"So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies, as it is written in the Book of Jashar. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day."
IE the earth stopped rotating since we now know the sun don't move we rotate on the planet making the sun seem to move. God must have temporally super glued everyone to the planet so they wouldn't have been slung across the land when the earth that rotates at above 1000mph at the equator when he stopped it suddenly.
Maybe he got his science from a talking donkey, after all the bible say they can be made to talk;
Numbers 22 21-31
Sorry if I cannot take all the words in the book as literally like some people do.
Actually Cliffy the Sun DOES move. It revolves around our galaxy, and our galaxy is in motion in our universe.
DeleteIf you could see it through time the Earths orbit would be a very long spiral. (like a spring)
Sorry but he ain't using any allegory but a literal interpretation of the bible,
ReplyDeleteso I am taking him at his word and seeing just how impossible from a scientific stand point,
the literal interpretation is.
Probably the reason most people who believe in the literal interpretation reject science,
because you cannot honestly accept both a complete literal interpretation and completely accept scientific proofs.
Well not if you are using all of your brain cells honestly that is.
They must reject science to keep believing what is scientifically impossible.
You're confusing figurative and poetic idiomatic expressions with literal scientific explanations.
ReplyDeleteDon't make the same mistake as the neocons.
Those things are not meant to define the earth. The foundations, etc are figurative expressions that need to be read in context and with an eye to the idiomatic Semitic language its written in.
The problem with the gopers is they take that stuff as some sort of literal science instead of the poetic rhetoric that it is.
No I am not You're confusing figurative and poetic idiomatic expressions with literal scientific explanations.
ReplyDeleteHe is, I am taking him at his word then applying his standards on some of the rest of the bible and looking at his views scientifically and asking how it might be.
I live where people like him try to use a literal version of the bible to argue with me about science, I ask them questions like I posted here, to see how they justify the contradictions.
ReplyDeleteBest answer ever, was a lady who told me God held everyone on to the planet to stop it turning when he made the sun stand still for a day. I asked every leaf on a tree, every animal and microbe rock drop of water, and she said yes,
every word in the bible is true ... according to her, I ask her about the contradiction between the versions of the bible IE some sects of Christianity Catholic and Eastern Orthodox include the book Judith most Protestants do not, she didn't.
Her reply was very interesting, neither Catholics of Orthodox could be real Christians since they don't believe in her bible. And her views on Mormons was very un-Christian .....
Ok,just pointing out the bible doesn't really say the things people claim it does. Like the earth was created in 6 literal days. It doesn't say that. But the Evangelicals claim it does.
ReplyDeleteIt also doesn't say the earth is flat. Its not providing geological information about the earth. But yes they take that stuff to its most literal simplistic view and then try to sell it as doctrine. Which drives me crazy.
I live where people like him try to use a literal version of the bible to argue with me about science, I ask them questions like I posted here, to see how they justify the contradictions.
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean. I'm surrounded by it. It makes me crazy. Which is why I usually corner "Christians" on why they focus so much time on reading the "Torah" and the "Prophets" (the Old Testament) rather than the teachings of Jesus, which are only found in 4 books, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
Of course we all know why.
Because his words condemn everything they stand for.
Its much easier for them to fixate on the wars and archaic morality of the Old Testament, rather than the words of the man who's name they claim to bear.
ReplyDeleteJesus put away the Law of Moses (though most of them will claim he didn't) but he gave them the exact opposite. Instead of an eye for an eye, he said turn the other cheek. Instead of public prayer he said pray in private. Instead of ritual sacrifices and vain ordinances he said all he wanted was a heart of repentance.
His entire message was simply principles to living with your fellow man in peace and respectful harmony. Charity, meekness, mercy, compassion, obedience to authority, social community, TOLERANCE, ..not judging others minor sexual behavior...that's it. That's his entire Gospel.
ReplyDeleteYet to a republican, these things are weaknesses and even "evil". They call it "socialism" and condemn it, and in doing so condemn him.
Which is why they never read the four Gospels, and instead prefer to focus on the Old Testament and bash "the gays".
They're the hypocrites, ...."blind guides" as Jesus called them, ...who will cover the four corners of the earth in search of one proselyte and when he's made make him "twofold the child of hell as themselves".
