WANDA, STAR TREK and BOOBGATE

British Film Festival Opening Night: Film Festival President and Swansea Resident extraordinaire Binda Singh, Lydia Cornell, Film maker Nick Meade

Did you know that Swansea, Wales, UK is an amazing Welsh town? Dylan Thomas, Richard Burton, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Kingsley Amis, and my new BFF Binda Singh all hail from Swansea, Wales, UK. (Among a throng of other notables.)

Saw STAR TREK with my three wild banshees over the weekend, as part of Mother's Day. I was blown away! We all thought it was wonderful. I thought the actor who played the young "Bones" was especially dead-on, and the young Spock looked exactly like Spock. Loved Lt. Uhura and Captain Kirk too. My kids aren't familiar with the original cast, so they didn't get all
the inside jokes, but they loved it anyway.

NEWS UPDATES: Miss California Vows to Use Her Naked Breasts for Good

From one of the funniest men in America, Andy Borowitz http://borowitzreport.com/

Fight Against Gay Marriage Will Be ‘Tireless, Topless'

Just moments after being told she could retain her beauty pageant crown, Miss California Carrie Prejean renewed her commitment to her mission, telling reporters, "From this day forward I promise I will use my naked breasts for good."

Ms. Prejean blasted the critics whom she claimed tried to silence her for her views on gay marriage, saying, "I intend to fight back with the two greatest weapons I have: my naked boobies."

The embattled pageant winner said she would be both "tireless and topless" in her efforts to fight same-sex unions.

She added that she plans to tour the country to speak out against gay marriage and hopes to draw attention to the issue by displaying her naked torso wherever possible.

"I will go anywhere, anytime, anyway to make my case," she said. "These breasts are made for walking."

Ms. Prejean refused to answer questions about another controversial topic, enhanced interrogation techniques, but she did remark, "I have always been in favor of enhancement."

At the White House correspondents' dinner, comedienne Wanda Sykes said things America needed to hear such as the following:

"Rush Limbaugh said he hopes this administration fails, so you're saying, 'I hope America fails,' you're like, 'I don't care about people losing their homes, their jobs, our soldiers in Iraq.' He just wants the country to fail. To me, that's treason," Sykes said.

"He's not saying anything differently than what Usama bin Laden is saying," she continued, before addressing the guest of honor, President Obama. "You know, you might want to look into this, sir, because I think maybe Rush Limbaugh was the 20th hijacker. But he was just so strung out on OxyContin he missed his flight."

Sean Hannity....Sean Hannity said he was going to get waterboarded for charity for our armed forces. He hasn't done it yet I see. You know talking about he can take a waterboarding. Please. Hey okay you might want to get waterboarded by someone you know or trust but let somebody from Pakistan waterboard him, or Keith Olbermann. Let Keith Olbermann waterboard him. He can't take a waterboarding.

I could break Sean Hannity just by giving him a middle seat in coach. Oh I need leg room!!

Dick Cheney...he's a scary man..scares me to death. I tell my kids, I say look if two cars pull up and one has a stranger and the other car has Dick Cheney...you get in the car with the stranger.

Please use this open forum to give us your opinion of Sykes humor commentary on Limbaugh.

Regarding the "kidney" comment about Limbaugh, remember that Republicans in the audience laughed too. It's an automatic response to a comic's presentation. So stop the fake shock and anger at Obama for laughing, as every other Republican did. And by the way, remember when Bush actually mocked the deaths of our troops in Iraq by pretending to look under the table for WMD at HIS White House Correspondent's Dinner? Why didn't Bush apologize for his despicable "joke" and his lies that killed thousands?

  2. You do know of course that Obie's throwing Wanda under the bus now?

Evidently Obama told Wanda it was a good performance right afterwards, but now the guy that lies for him (the main guy, not the networks) is claiming Obama thought it was in poor taste or something...

  3. Back to the movie briefly,

The Star Trek "mythology" and Spock's back story and relationships (and all the characters for that matter) are entirely different in this movie.

I'll try not to get too geeky on you here, but the premise is that it's impossible to go back in time and change what has already happened in YOUR own universe.

If you attempt to do so, (as Nero did) you create an "alternate" timeline or universe.

So the mythology, back stories and relationships are different in this movie.

  6. Chris, (may I assume you're associated with WEB?)

Perhaps, if you expect anyone to actually "learn" something it would be helpful to actually talk "to" someone rather than talk "at" them?

OK, I get it. You guys are angry and feel you've been slighted by society.

What does that have to do with this blog in particular? Why were we singled out for part of your "project"?

If we are to learn something maybe you could provide some context for your posts so that we may actually communicate and exchange ideas.

    Just sayin...

Do me a favor and have Kmume overnight me a hard copy of all this here as soon as he gets it copied. I've someone who wants to evaluate it. May be a bigger payday than we planned.

  9. Ok, sorry Lydia but I have to post here.

I don't know who these two sock puppets are but I doubt they are who those pictures represent. They likely took those off the internet and are clearly two regular trolls playing games.

    How do I know that?

    Simple.

Because of this posting (as well as others).

No attorney planning any sort of legal action or suit comes into the blog and harasses, brags about it and subtly threatens it repeatedly, and publicly. And worse, the statement "may be a bigger payday than we planned" could constitute a conspiracy to commit fraud and could potentially be prosecuted under RICO or other statutes designed to deal with criminal conspiracies.

This is likely no attorney. This is most likely some nut using other peoples handles and photos, linking to other peoples sites in an attempt to harass and intimidate Lydia and others.

A good way to find out is to simply call Mr Wain Bennett, the guy who this is apparently supposed to be. He's a practicing attorney in PHILADELPHIA, PA, not Richmond PA as "WEB"s bio indicates.

    His phone number is 917-677-3181.

I'd call and find out if Mr Bennett is really the person sitting on a blog he's been subtly threatening and harassing for the past few weeks to what end one can only assume.

Lets find out if Mr Bennett, is really dumb enough to openly admit to what can easily be described as a conspiracy to commit some sort of fraudulent legal action in which he intends to garner a "bigger pay day".

I'd give him a call Lydia or have your husband do it. Maybe even have an attorney friend do it.

Because I doubt this person here calling himself web leaving all the subtle threats in cheep Latin and Spanish has anything to do with this Attorney out of PA.

Especially since he didn't even seem to know what state he lived in.

And if not, I'd bet the real Mr Bennett would be interested in knowing someone is misrepresenting him in an online forum, to what end, we can only guess.

    But one things for sure.

No attorney threatens and harasses someone in a public forum prior to suing them or taking legal action.

This guys been threatening subtly and leaving harassing posts designed to intimidate for weeks now.

If anyone would be getting sued, it would be him.

  10. Not to mention this is the Internet, meaning the Supreme Court would need to overrule the 1st Amendment to even do anything and the Supreme Court doesn't award damages in civil matters.

Not to mention Lydia Cornell or any blog host for that matter is not responsible for the actions or words of any anonymous commenters in a public forum.

This guys a joke. A laughable joke.

It's a troll playing games, and if its not, and it is a real attorney planning some sort of legal action, then he's one dumb attorney.

Hint Matlock. When the judge sees your "BIGGER PAYOFF THAN WE PLANNED" comment, the only payoff you'll be looking at is to the Correctional Officer guarding your cell block when you ask him for a cell with a window.

  11. Nice reasoning Bart, that hadn't occurred to me.

I assumed since the poster here and Mr. Bennett both seem to be playing at race baiting they were one and the same.

I just figured they were trying to provoke someone into making a racial comment which they could then get all up in arms about.

  18. One more thing before I slip quietly off again. Volt, your feigned outrage over the poor taste jokes of a comedian who makes her living off of poor taste jokes about a shock jock who makes his living off of poor taste comments is laughable.

Was she a poor choice for a white tie affair where the President would be attending? Of course. It never fails to amaze me at the level of stupidity shown in picking comedians for these affairs.

But on the same note, she said nothing more outrageous than we hear from Rush Limbaugh every day on his show. He's called the liberals traitors, terrorists, he's called the President a terrorist and associate of terrorists, he's repeatedly made racist comments like his most recent one accusing Colin Powell of only voting for the President because he was black, etc.

Sykes was in her usual genre of saying shocking and outrageous things but for the President to chuckle at the moment of delivery is a normal reaction at one of those affairs. I laughed too when I heard the delivery, and then you find yourself saying "wait, what did she say?".

It was stupid to pick her just because that's not the sort of comedy you'd want at an affair where the President is attending but at the same time it's nothing more than Rush Limbaugh does on his show daily, to million over the airwaves.

If he can't take the heat then he shouldn't dish it out and if you are offended, then now you know how the rest of us feel hearing all the foul and outrageous things your shock jock says about the rest of us on a daily basis.

    Deal with it.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Funny Volty you NEVER seemed too outraged when your girl Ann Coulter said that type of crap..........in fact Ann Coulter is the reason YOU made this blog YOUR PROJECT..........funny how you spew the self righteous outrage when someone else does or says essentially the same things as you or your heros do.

  20. Very well said about Darth Cheney - the mere mention of his name simply makes me cringe. These days you have to wonder where to place the blame on the misfortunes of America in the last administration: on Bushixon, Cheney, Dumbsfeld, or all of the above?

Glad that era is over. Hats off to Ron Reagan for seeing this first-hand and endorsing John Kerry in '04 and Barack Obama in '08.

As for Rush's prediction that Obama's administration will fail - I surely don't see that at this point, and its very early in the administration to suggest that Barack will fail. Limbaugh is nothing but blather filled with this kind of nonsense - why this guy is still around, I cannot answer.

As always, great post, Lydia. The Star Trek movie was certainly worth watching. :)

  21. Rob, welcome back. Thank you.

Mike, you're right, that is hate speech. It's hard when Don Rickles built a career on cutting people down -- and did anyone see the Pam Anderson roast? It was outrageous! Even Cloris Leachman said some unbelievably disgusting things.

So comics get away with schtick.

What I don't understand is Ann Coulter, who calls herself a "public intellectual" but her "jokes" like murdering Bill Clinton and bombing the New York Times building, and rat-poisoning a Supreme Court Justice and "talking to a liberal with a baseball bat" and her idiotic comment that "The Golden Rule is just an incidental tenet of Christianity" (?!!!!)... these are spoken out loud in front of impressionable college students who fork over public money to hear her intellectual point of view, so filled with hatred and vengeance.

Coulter made her name on taking down Bill Clinton and illegally hiding and listening to the Linda Tripp tapes.

Rush Limbaugh has incited more killings and fear-based acts of revenge against one-half of the American population of Democrats (liberals" as Limbaugh calls these dirty-humans.)

Wanda Sykes is a very funny comic with a certain rough-mouth delivery. I worked on Curb Your Enthusiasm and love her on that show.

  22. Simply put Wanda Sykes is funny,

They are giving her an unfair advantage in sculpting her body to help her "fill out her bikini" so she might win over another contestant.

It's favoritism. Not to mention, she lied in saying she had never posed topless or nude.
