Perhaps 15 or 20 years ago I was stunned when reading one of my encyclopedia war books.

These letters, written in 1942, had to be smuggled out at great risk.
Although these letters found their way to the proper allied authorities no action was taken and the people were abandoned.

For example, let’s suppose that you live near a local bar and one evening you decide to go out for a smoke and Moosehead beer (with a hint of lemon) on your front porch.
While enjoying your refreshment you notice a young lady exit the bar followed shortly thereafter by a creepy looking guy. The creepy guy begins following the young lady and while doing so he suddenly begins to play with his ding-dong.
Realizing she is being followed the young lady nervously crosses the street to your house and asks you for safe-haven. Indifferent to her plight, as no actual crime has been committed, you tell her to get off your property and go elsewhere…………so she leaves.
In the meantime you approach the creepy guy, shake his hand, and offer him a beer. During your conversation you discover he’s a house painter so you enter into a business deal with him to paint your house. You praise him for his initiative and hand him an old “Hustler” magazine as a gesture of your good will. You shake his hand again and he leaves.
The next day, while watching the morning news, you witness a story about a young lady who was raped the evening prior which is accompanied by a picture of the creepy guy who was arrested for the crime.
Do you not agree that huge intellectual ignorance and negligence played an important role in this act having being committed?
Could you not have read the warnings signs thus completely preventing this offence from ever having taken place?
Such a scenario applies to Hitler during his reign of power. The warning signs were there between 1933 and 1940.

I want back the ninety minutes of my life I wasted watching it. Whom do I sue?
ReplyDeleteI think the more difficult question would be in determining the monetary value equal to 90 minutes of "your" life.
..and of course locating a civil court that grants awards based on fractions of a cent...
