IT'S TIME FOR EQUALITY NOW!

EQUALITY NOW: Ending violence and discrimination against women and girls around the world

DON'T FORGET TO VOTE TODAY - November 5

I've written extensively on the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) and will re-post the articles here shortly. We must see this through. It's time, past time for EQUALITY NOW!

Joss Whedon, Lydia Cornell

Last night at Equality Now at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills I met several feminist icons and girlhood idols: I was leaning against the wall alone when Gloria Steinem walked right up to me and reached out her hand. I have always wanted to meet her. She was so warm and lovely. I told her she was my inspiration.

Then we heard the inimitable Joss Whedon speak. He is also one of my son's favorite creators. My son loves Firefly; I love Buffy.  Then I met Lily Tomlin, Gloria Allred, Donna Deitch, and Jessica Neuwirth the founder and president of Equality Now.   Jada Pinkett-Smith and Yasmeen Hassan spoke eloquently; Alison Hannigan introduced Joss Whedon; Colby Caillat sang her hit songs. (What a great performance.) Also in attendance were Paul Reiser, Jay Leno, Jane Fonda, Maria Bello, BlogHer creator Lisa Stone, and many more.

Gloria Allred, Suzan Hughes, Gloria Steinem

During the dinner, three amazing young women stood on stage and performed true stories from the lives of girls who have been tortured and abused. My friend, the stunning, generous entrepreneur Suzan Hughes hosted several of us at her table: Samantha Faulkner, Gloria Allred and Janice Dickinson.

I listened to stunning (and horrifying) statistics: more women and girls have died since 9/11 as a result of sex trafficking, abuse, gender violence, rape, domestic abuse -- than men have died in all the wars combined.

Check out my Getty Images page which has over 400 photos from when I started in show business. :)) lol some of these are hilarious. Below are the newest ones from the red carpet.

My old friend Hunter Drohojowska-Philip, Smithsonian curator and author of "Rebels in Paradise" about the 60s art scene, spoke at the event on the value of art investing.

For all the progress women are making in getting equality in the work world, it's still a good-old-boys club when it comes to working in prime-time television. Let's see about changing that, shall we?

    1. I so love your blogs and writing in general. One of my true sources of pride, daily, is that someone as loving and brilliant as you is someone I can call my friend.

    4. On Friday morning, 23-year-old Paul Ciancia walked into Terminal 3 of the Los Angeles LAX airport, pulled a Smith & Wesson AR-15 semi-automatic rifle from a duffel bag and started shooting his way through a security checkpoint. He specifically targeted TSA agents, killing one screener and wounding three other people before an airport cop took him down with a shot to the face.

At first police suspected that the shooter was a disgruntled former TSA employee. But a different picture emerged a few hours later: Ciancia was an anti-government conspiracy nut who came to LAX specifically to kill TSA agents.

One witness said she looked directly into Ciancia's eyes and heard him "curse the TSA." Several FBI sources told reporters that Ciancia carried a rambling racist and homophobic note that touched on "fiat currency" and the New World Order, denounced TSA oppression and described himself as a "pissed-off patriot" who "wanted to kill TSA and pigs" to "instill fear" into their "traitorous minds."

While details about the LAX shooter continue to emerge, it has become clear that Paul Ciancia is a mentally unstable individual who had come under the sway of some very toxic anti-government conspiracy theories.

Sounds just like Voltron talks in here.

    6. The problem with guys like Ciancia and Voltron is when you go on the internet constantly lashing out in anti-government "pissed off patriot" rants, ...eventually you want to act on them.

    9. Really? Voltron hasn't been in here doing the same sort of anti government rants? Talking about guns, seizing the President at gun point, ...spreading is anti-govt conspiracy theories....dunno. Seems like two pee's in a pod to me.
