That's a good cause to be walking for. I had a friend who's little brother had MD and died from it. Good job.

My grade 12 philosophy 101 book says that human beings are greedy by nature. Is this meaning & purpose?

Really? Is Lydia "greedy" for donating practically every weekend of her life to charitable causes like Muscular Dystrophy?

"Some" humans are greedy by nature.

Your mistake is seeing something, then concluding everyone must be exactly the same.

Your other mistake, is confusing human nature with purpose.

What makes you think, human nature has anything to do with purpose?

And yes, the very fact that you ask the question shows that in your mind you not only allow for the possibility that there might be one, it also shows that your mind is naturally predisposed to conclude that there "should" be one.

    Otherwise, you would never ask.

As for what that purpose is, not sure, but Clif gave you a good read. I did do. Jonathan Livingston Seagull addresses this issue from a philosophical viewpoint.

Another good read is "The Road Less Traveled", by Dr. M Scott Peck, who was a famous Military psychiatrist who worked with PTSD cases during the Viet Nam war.

He addresses this question in the end of the book.

Voltron says the meaning of life is "spite".

Spite of course being one of the most petty and vile negative traits known to man.

Perhaps how he was raised, spite is a good reason to live. Perhaps his parents were horrible people and abused him in some way and now all he has left is spite. I could see that had he been beaten, molested, psychologically abused whatever.

And of course I could see Victor Frankl who spent years in the Nazi death camps seeing spite as a sole purpose for existence.

But spite because you have to put up with liberal health care, ..well....you see the point.

And ironically, Frankl discovered that it was love that gave life purpose. He wrote of this in his book "Mans Search for Meaning" (the book Johnny called "The meaning of life").

A thought transfixed me: for the first time in my life I saw the truth as it is set into song by so many poets, proclaimed as the final wisdom by so many thinkers.

The truth – that love is the ultimate and the highest goal to which man can aspire. Then I grasped the meaning of the greatest secret that human poetry and human thought and belief have to impart:

The salvation of man is through love and in love. I understood how a man who has nothing left in this world still may know bliss, be it only for a brief moment, in the contemplation of his beloved. In a position of utter desolation, when man cannot express himself in positive action, when his only achievement may consist in enduring his sufferings in the right way – an honorable way – in such a position man can, through loving contemplation of the image he carries of his beloved, achieve fulfillment.

For the first time in my life I was able to understand the meaning of the words, "The angels are lost in perpetual contemplation of an infinite glory...
    - Mans Search for Meaning

Interesting enough Frankl also concluded that there are only two types of men in the world. What he called "Decent" and "Indecent".

Decent was those who cared about their fellow man and helped those less fortunate than themselves, whether it be a Jewish Rabii or a Nazi Camp guard. If they did good, and cared for their fellow man they are good.

If they are cold, and can talk of killing others with the ease of discussing a football game, then they are the of the other sort.

  8. Interesting

mook mook can read books consisting of hundreds of pages on war

    specifically WW2,

but for an answer to his question he cannot read either

    Jonathan Livingston Seagull a book of a mere 127 pages half of which are pictures;

    or

The Little Prince a book of a mere 96 pages, large type and double spaced.

    Here mook mook

    I am willing to offer help; the Little Prince book is online;

    here.

You could read the entire book there is less then an hour.

    and Jonathan Livingston Seagull is also online ;

    here

    probably could do that one in half an hour;

So to read either or both only requires a little of your time to go to the links and read.

Hope this helps .... if you want any help that is .... :)

  12. "Really? Is Lydia "greedy" for donating practically every weekend of her life to charitable causes like Muscular Dystrophy?"

I hesitate to point this out because I'm sure I'll be dogged for it again, but here goes...

YES. And this is the root cause of most of her problems.

She's "greedy" for attention. She desperately wants to be seen as a "good" person. Note that it was her who actually said "seen". It's not about actually being a good person it's that other people "see" her as a good person. Read that as "IMAGE".

Note that almost every "good" deed she does is accompanied by a "PR Newswire" article. That's a news article that is PAID for, not simply an independent report.

Does not the bible say about charitable acts that you shouldn't let your right hand know what your left hand is doing?

I've tried to tell her to just "be" a good person and let OTHERS toot your horn. But evidently I'm an asshole for pointing this out.

But YES, she's greedy. For attention and for an image as a good person.

  13. Now, let the hate mail flow...

    ReplyDelete
  14. Oh and I should probably add that my parents weren't "horrible" people, nor was I abused by them in any way, psychologically or physically.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Oh so you became the genocidal maniac you have admitted being, all on your own???????

    Interesting admission volty.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Did you ever hear the song "live and let die"?

I prefer the Paul McCartney version...

    ReplyDelete
  17. Funny but you didn't say live and let die,

you said force them to change their religion and cold bloodedly murder any who refuse ..... like most genocidal bigots usually do historically, you're trying to justify your hatred and retched statements.

    ReplyDelete
  18. In case you haven't noticed,

Most of the people who need help in this world don't want it.

As a matter of fact, they'll actively resent you for it.

Kind of akin to being unplugged in Johnny's world...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Funny you attribute a public statement as looking for attention instead of asking others to JOIN,

looks like the mirror you just held up shows much more about you then any Kreskin like knowledge you claim to have about Lydia.

You reveal so much and cannot understand why people have such a low opinion of you after you do so.

    ReplyDelete
  20. And Islamic culture and Western culture are diametrically opposed and incompatible.
One culture has to end. I'd prefer it to be theirs.

    ReplyDelete
  21. In case you haven't noticed,

translation here is volty's truths, even if they seem insane to a very large section of humanity.

Most of the people who need help in this world don't want it.

    define "help",

    In your case

    "help" is doing exactly what YOU decide at the punishment of death for not obeying;

    IE insane volty.

As a matter of fact, they'll actively resent you for it.

resent you for forcibly changing their entire culture and killing everyone who refuses????
    why would they resent that????

Kind of akin to being unplugged in Johnny's world...

Nice pivot into a straw-man argument with a fictional argument.

    ReplyDelete
  22. And Islamic culture and Western culture are diametrically opposed and incompatible.

    So says YOU

I really don't care what you guys think of me.

that is why you spew the insane hatred and bigotry like you do so much eh??????

    ReplyDelete
  26. BTW why have you such a low opinion of most of the human race you always see the worst in almost everyone you post about except for your fellow extremists?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Must be a problem you aren't really ready to deal with inside yourself

    ReplyDelete
  28. You ought to take a poll.

I sincerely doubt that "the vast majority" of humanity would disagree with me.

And you've also changed the subject. My comments were in regard to Johnny's statement about human beings being greedy by nature.

NOT about my beliefs about Islam in particular.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Other wise you wouldn't project so much on others you refuse to admit in your self.

    ReplyDelete
  30. sorry but your statements about Islam are part and parcel of the crapola you spew here daily like your projection of your inner demons unto others. ....

    ReplyDelete

  32. "BTW why have you such a low opinion of most of the human race you always see the worst in almost everyone you post about except for your fellow extremists?

    Wow. Pot meet Kettle...

    ReplyDelete
  33. which leads to the fact the claim of seeking attention likens back to making outrageous statements for attention sake,

    like YOU do.

    ReplyDelete
  34. And you in particular "project" much more than anyone else here.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I do NOT have a low opinion of most of humanity;

No Volty, she might "enjoy" as a side benefit the feelings she gets including being part of the action, but those are called "PERIPHERAL BENEFITS" that ALL PEOPLE who give to charity enjoy.

  40. Anonymous8:19 AM

See dummy, Lydia is a celebrity.

Celebrity's use their celebrity status to draw attention to charitable causes, thus expanding the reach of their message in drawing in prospective donors.

An average celebrity might donate 100 or 1000 dollars to a cause. In contrast using their celebrity status might help draw in 10,000 dollars in donations or more.

For you to even suggest she should not use her celebrity status to help others just shows what a pathetic loser you really are.

If it bugs you that a celebrity uses their status to help promote charitable causes, then you really are nothing more than an envious little prick.

    For example,John Wayne Gacy,performed much charitable/community work???

Also,I once met a dude who said "I only go to church so as to look good in face of the community."

    ReplyDelete
  46. Anonymous9:33 AM

Again, one of the very "responsibilities" that comes with being a celebrity is using their celebrity status to draw attention and donations to needy causes.

But the pathetic, mealy mouthed little losers who's miserable lives are so petty and dull that they just have to lash out at anyone doing more, and being more, than themselves.

A Celebrity uses their celebrity status to help others.

And pathetic losers like Johnny and Voltron.....one counting drywall screws the other counting fuel receipts.....have to lash out like little babies, whenever they see them doing it.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Anonymous10:24 AM

    Think about it.

To these twits, celebrities should not use their celebrity status to help others. They should hide their celebrity status, stay in the shadows....hide under a rock or something, like these two twits do.

Of course they don't really believe that. They've got to know that part of being a celebrity is doing charity auctions and events, especially when you're semi retired.

    It goes with the territory.

But they keep attacking Lydia, trying to tear down her spirit, tear down her self confidence, hurt her in any way they can, because that was their purpose here all along.

When these "people" came in here 6 years ago it was for one demonstrable purpose and one alone.

To belittle, ridicule and try to tear down the spirit of the liberal actress so as to weaken or silence altogether her blog and other activities.

That's all they ever wanted and have always tried to do.

So when we see Lydia doing charity events their natural response?

To insult her to the core, her very motives for doing them, and this is who they are. The "dark side" of the force, at is were.

    Those who love damage.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Anonymous10:37 AM

We're sorry boys, that no one wants a couple of losers who count fuel receipts and do menial labor to promote their charity.

    Like "Americas Most Wanted".

    ReplyDelete
  49. Anonymous10:38 AM

Of course there are probably things you could help with now, like AA for example, so they can show people what a used up old drunk looks like.

Or maybe to help fight physical disease. I've seen voltron's mug, and he could be the poster boy for either chronic facial warts or battered wives.

    : |

...of course we'd have to put him in a dress for that last one there but...

  55. Actually Worf, it goes much deeper than that.

You don't really follow along well or look very far below the surface.

On a particular thread, which has been deleted for quite awhile it was Lydia herself who said she "couldn't understand why they didn't see her as a good person" when she was going through a rough time in her life.

Its actually the "Thanksgiving" long weekend up here today.

Today,I am stuffing the beef with jalapenos, green pepper, and the worlds hottest pepper which registers like 3 million on the Scofield level......my neighbour gave me a few!

In his book “God’s Law: The Only Political Solution,” published in April, former Arkansas Department of Human Services attorney Charlie Fuqua explains that he supports killing wayward kids because that’s what a Bronze Age tribe did in his favorite religious text.

“The maintenance of civil order in society rests on the foundation of family discipline,” he wrote, http://www.arktimes.com/ArkansasBlog/archives/2012/10/08/republican-candidate-fuqua-endorses-death-penalty-for-rebellious-children according to an excerpt published by The Arkansas Times. “Therefore, a child who disrespects his parents must be permanently removed from society in a way that gives an example to all other children of the importance of respect for parents. The death penalty for rebellioius children is not something to be taken lightly. The guidelines for administering the death penalty to rebellious children are given in http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy+21%3A18-21&version=KJV Deut 21:18-21.”

"The Southern Poverty Law Center better add this guy to the list.
He's not as crazy as you guys think though.

The Nazis learned a lot from us in terms of the way Jews were treated.
The U.S. first used Zyklon B on Mexicans crossing the border at El Paso, TX. It was observed by a German scientist and later praised and published in a German scholarly magazine.

Also they got the idea of putting the Jews in Ghettos from us. They copied the way we segregated Americas first people onto reservations.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Wonder if the Zyklon B thingy is true?

    a little research produced this mook mook;

From 1929 onwards the U.S. used Zyklon B to disinfect the freight trains and clothes of Mexican immigrants entering the US.

Farm Securities Administration photographer Marion Post Wolcott recorded the use of cyanide gas and Zyklon B by the Public Health Service at the New Orleans Quarantine Station during the 1930s

    as a disinfectant, NOT to murder people;

Nice try at obfuscation but epic fail again by someone who cannot research anything effectively it seems.

  98. The U.S. first used Zyklon B on Mexicans crossing the border at El Paso, TX.

    Not true;

the US used Zyklon B on the clothes of the Mexicans, and IF you watched Schindlers List, the Nazi's forced the Jews to remove their clothing before using Zyklon B directly on them

  100. The truth on how the Nazis came to use ZyKlon B on humans;

In early 1942, Zyklon B had emerged as the preferred extermination tool of the Nazi regime for both the Auschwitz-Birkenau and Majdanek extermination camps during the Holocaust.

The chemical claimed the lives of roughly 1.2 million people in these camps.

Rudolf Hƶss, commandant of Auschwitz, said that the use of Zyklon-B came about on the initiative of one of his subordinates, Captain Karl Fritzsch, who used the substance to kill some Russian POWs in late August 1941.

The experiment was repeated on more Russian POWs, with Hƶss watching, in September of the same year.

The emergence of Zyklon-B as the preferred chemical was a multi-stranded process

Based on his demeanor I believe he will become Prime minister.

I tested him on politcal philosophy, history, and global warming and for a nineteen year old he genuinely impressed me. Ive spoken to 4th year political science students who were nothing compared to him. I was surprised by his knowledge of Ann Coulter. Seriously, I could ask 10,000 Canadians who she is and not one of them would have a clue.

Occasionally, when I walked by,I would tease him & say "I don't think our future Prime Minister should be shoveling gravel.....lol!

Good kid........I wish him the best!

  130. Anonymous6:09 PM

Cool. I think you'll like it. The tricks getting used to the "feather sanding" after sanding the hard stuff.

Put it on thin, sand it light and you'll like the dust factor a lot more. Watch the dust, I mean its still dust, it'll leave dust. But it drops straight down and is light, more powdery. Its thinner of course (more water) but a bit different. At least if the stuff you get up there is the same as down here.

I always go for the buckets. Its a little more expensive than the boxes of course but again easier to deal with. I hate seeing a guy standing there with mud all over him squeezing out the remainder of the bag into the bucket. If I added up all the time I paid workers to stand their transferring mud from a box to a bucket I'm sure it'd more than make up for the extra cost.

5 gallon bucket, plastic lids, easy clean up. Keeps your mud fresh the next day and less man hours handling it.

Wow...I feel like I'm part of your company now. "Worf, get to work!" lol.

Unlike others I actually use a level and square

So you're not really a drywall guy, you're more of what we call down here a general contractor.

You do finishing work. Inside framing. Drywall, probably do some baseboard and flooring too, right?

Down here you have to be licensed to be a general contractor. Do you have some sort of Canadian equivalent? (not checking your license status just curious if its the same up there).

I never had one so I stuck with sheetrock only in my business. But I grew up with a level and a square.

My first jobs were framing new houses. Did it for a little over 10 years hoping from contractor to contractor (went where the work was) before I woke up one morning and wanting to sink my 20oz straight claw into my forehead.

All I did was swing a 20 oz, driving 16 penny nails all day. That's back before the schmancy new nail guns.

Then I tried "historic carpentry" doing historic work. Tried painting houses for a summer but that was not fun. Finally started my sheetrock company. But framings clean work. I like it.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Anonymous6:23 PM

    : |

I am not a general contractor but often get led into that role. Although I do some electrical I do have an occasional plumber and electrician whom I pay well and profit from their hourly rate. I loathe plumbing and wont touch it.......irritating to the extreme!

I generally do the framing, boarding, plastering and trim and door installation.

A few months back I did a bathroom reno and installed one of these in an upscale home...... ours was far cooler.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7ON4Ee-FMw&feature=related

Difficult job as there was no sub-floor and me and my plumber wanted to kill each other as there was no room to work with all our tools. I did much electrical and occasionally helped with the plumbing which I insisted be PERFECT! Major wiring and plumbing modification. I was soooooo happy when I finally laid the sub-floor so I could finish off the rest of the bathroom. Anyway, the homeowner was very delighted with the finished product.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7ON4Ee-FMw&feature=related

I soundproof walls/ceiling by insulating with "Roxul" insulation (very dense. I then install "resilient channel" on the framework and then two layers of board.

I will see if I can upload a pic soon. I just found out last night why my phone wont upload to my computer.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Anonymous12:29 PM

We have a lot of bears down here, but in the east just black bears. They're fine. A black bears like a big dog (unless one gets a hold of you of course). You can usually buffalo them just by being authoritarian. After all you stand bigger than the black bear.

Every time I start to gain a little respect for you, you go and pull something slimy and weasely like this.

    Here's your "quote" of me.

    "Johnnymoomoo said...

"Well said. Religion is little more than an "excuse" to exert control over others." "

And here's what I ACTUALLY said...

Well said. The religion is little more than an "excuse" to exert control over others.

So what you did, was take my statement, EDIT OUT THE WORD "THE" in front of religion, and repost it, CHANGING THE MEANING from speaking about the religious EXTREMISTS and turning it into a general statement on all religion.

    Talk about weasels.

You just got caught intentionally editing my comment to change its meaning, literally lying and manufacturing a statement and then have the nerve to talk about me "weaseling" out of anything.

You just got BUSTED lying and cheating again.

  172. Worfs,excuse is the word "the"......................LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  173. Anonymous5:28 PM

And since the word "THE" was in the middle, there's no way you could have accidentally truncated it in the copy and paste.

You would have to have manually edited out the word "THE".

We were talking about religious extremists and how they use religion to control their followers.

I agreed with you and said , "Well said. THE religion is little more than an "excuse" to exert control over others."

And now you weaselly turn around and edit out the word "THE" because you knew it would put the statement into the context it was written in.

    Shame shame shame.

And no it didn't take me an hour to "think" of anything. I have other things to do besides blog.

I took one look at what you wrote, scrolled up to look at my actual comment because I knew I had worded it differently, and yup.

    Sure enough.

    Caught you lying again.

What's amazing is how comfortable you are being caught doing it.

Its like you are completely morally bankrupt or something.

I mean, most people would be ashamed of being caught doing such an underhanded thing.

Honestly I think you right wingers are born liars.

You just lie and it doesn't seem to bother you a bit.

Here I catch you selectively editing out part of my comment to change its context, you're busted red handed.

And all you can do is dance around it.

    You're busted dude.

    Party over.

  179. Anonymous5:41 PM

You intentionally took my statement, edited it, and then tried to pass it off as something it was not.

You have no further argument at that very moment.

    Get it?

Yeah. It ain't like you parse the hell out of anything someone else says to fit your left wing ideology...

  186. Oh and Johnny? "The" was pretty important in that statement.

He was referring to CHRISTIAN extremists. His group totally respects the Islamic extremists.

Isn't it funny how whenever Johnny paints himself into a corner and I call him on it, out comes the voltron character?

Sort of like a sybil character, who comes out when the nice personality gets pressured.

And of course to change the subject to trying to get me to defend against his accusations that I'm a liberal even though he knows I'm not.

So I won't even address the rube. He's just here because his pal (or alter ego) got cornered.

Come on, you actually think I'm "afraid" of that question and need to dodge it?

I just don't see how you get off asking me questions when you just got caught red handed EDITING, ...CHANGING my comment, to fit YOUR context.

And no, I wouldn't burn ANYONES books.

That's part of being an American.

    ReplyDelete
  191. And as far as burning the Quran goes, You or I may find what the man did distasteful, we DO have a thing in this country called "free speech".

I'm pretty sure he didn't burn the last copy or anything, so he probably didn't eliminate the last trace of the bible of a death cult.

And I feel bad for those who died because of this mans actions, but really, are we going to have our freedom of speech rights dictated by unhinged assholes who live in foreign countries? Do we all just shut up because we might offend some camel jockey in Bumfuck Egypt?

Oooh that reminds me. It's supposed to be cold this winter. I need to lay in a supply of Quran's for the fireplace.
    (they make good kindling...)

No ones saying that he couldn't burn one.

    Only that he shouldn't.
