Who is that blond in the first picture at the top with you? She looks familiar but I can't place it. I'm thinking Marta Kirsten but she's older than that.I can't quite place the face.

Good evening. Johnny Moo Moo won't be joining us this evening due to a brief "episode" he experienced last night from which he'll need sufficient time to recover.

While his absence will be deeply felt by all and we wish him a speedy recovery rest assured others will no doubt pop in to fill the gap left by this secondary albeit important member of the right wing troll team.

    Please stand by.

    He will be missed.

In memory of him I'm watching the videos of the Lunar Landing, and the post return interviews with him, Collins and Aldrin.

I can't believe he's gone. It feels like the end of an era. It hurt more than I thought it would. He was probably one of the most important public figures in my life. Such a giant, yet such a quiet, humble man. Not like the chest beaters of today.

Fortunately though we still have Buzz Aldrin (who has a great right hook) and Micheal Collins (funny guy).

Only 24 men throughout all creation, have seen the full circle of the earth from space. Yet we all got to see it through photographs thanks to their efforts.

I'll never forget Christmas Eve 1968. I was sitting on the floor of the living room, my Mom was in the kitchen making candies and Christmas cookies and my Dad was on the couch reading the funnies. We were watching "How the Grinch Stole Christmas", the cartoon version and suddenly they Jules Bergman broke in with the news and started showing live footage of Apollo 8.

Frank Boorman came on and was talking, and for the first time in human history man was watching the earth rise from lunar orbit. We couldn't see it because of the position of the camera they were beaming footage back from, but we could see the moon out of the corner of the command module window. It was very fuzzy, but we could see craters.

Anyway then someone said we have a message for the people back on earth, and my Mom had now walked into the living room and my siblings, me my Dad and Mom were all watching and he started to read from Genesis.

    He said;

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.

And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

Then Jim Lovell (Apollo 13 commander) read:

And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.

And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

    Finally Frank Borman came back on the mic and read;

"And God said, Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called He Seas: and God saw that it was good.

And from the crew of Apollo 8, we close with good night, good luck, a Merry Christmas – and God bless all of you, all of you on the good Earth."

My Mom started to cry a little bit, not loudly, just got misty on the eyes. I remember I had a really really warm feeling, I can't describe it but it just felt like all was right in the world (I was only 8 and oblivious to the war in Viet Nam). It was Christmas eve, I had opened a present already (we always got to open ONE present Christmas eve) and was playing with it (it was a "Major Matt Mason, "Mattels Man in Space") , we had cookies, candies, the tree was all lit up, and the astronauts were looking at us on earth from the orbit of the moon. It was the best Christmas ever.I'll never forget how moved my Mom was, or how good I felt at that moment.

I'll also never forget sitting on the floor of the living room watching Apollo 11. We were out of school for summer vacation and I had been watching it all day long on TV. It was the only thing on anyway, other than LOTS Of commercials (Kellogs Corn Flakes, TANG, BIC Ball Point Pens). CBS, "MAN ON THE MOON" coverage. They had their own logo.

They landed around 4:00 PM EST. I was on the floor (as always) playing with my "Revell" Model I had built of the Apollo 11 Saturn V rocket. It was huge, several feet high, painted black and white. I also had a model of the LEM.

When they landed, I was bringing the LEM down to the little piece of plastic moon that came with it.

Anyway then they sat their all day, and we kept wanting to see them walk on the moon but NASA said they were going to walk at 2:00AM and my Mom said "NO WAY". (Our bed time was 10:00 in the summer, 9:00 during school days). I was so upset that they wouldn't just come out of the LEM but they sat their doing stuff and talking back and forth all day long. All those "Quindar tones" were driving my Mom crazy, lol. Then they said they were going to walk early, 9:00 PM so we though oh boy! But 9:00 PM came and went and they didn't come out. When 10:00 PM came and they still didn't come out my Mom made us get ready for bed and put our pajamas on. I was really worried at that point. She let us stay up till 10:30, but when they still hadn't come out she sent us to bed. Then about 20 minutes later or so (she knew we weren't sleeping, we could hear the TV from the bedroom she said called us and said to come out. We came out in our pajamas, and there it was. Neil Armstrong, coming down the ladder. It was incredible. Unbelievable. I'd never seen anything like it. It was a clear night and we could see the moon. I remember looking out the living room window up at the moon and thinking wow, if I just had a telescope I could see him!

After he took the first step he said his famous "One small step" line and I remember I didn't understand what he said and I had to ask my dad "what did he say, what did he say" and my Mom repeated it back to me.

We stayed up for about half an hour then got sent to bed at 11:30 and had to watch the rest on reruns the next day, which they kept mixing in while the LEM was getting ready to leave.

It was magic. Almost sacred. I can't explain it, but its the best thing we've ever done I think. Its all we talked about, for the next year in school. Its all we heard about. Everything was MOON. Moon boots. Moon dances (Micheal Jacksons moonwalk). They even made a moon "hula hoop". Mcdonalds had moon glasses. My Mom had this Pimento spread that was in a "Moon Jar" (little drawing on the side of Armstrong on the moon). There was Moon stuff on the cereal boxes. Moon clothing stuff. Bic made a moon pen. And we had it all. GI Joe had a space capsule which I got. Maxwell Smart and 99 walked on the moon to meet the chief one time. Everything was MOON. It was AWESOME. Best time in history to be a kid.

"I am deeply saddened by the passing of my good friend, and space exploration companion, Neil Armstrong today.

As Neil, Mike Collins and I trained together for our historic Apollo 11 Mission, we understood the many technical challenges we faced, as well as the importance and profound implications of this historic journey. We will now always be connected as the crew of the Apollo 11 mission to the moon, yet for the many millions who witnessed that remarkable achievement for humankind, we were not alone.

Whenever I look at the moon I am reminded of that precious moment, over four decades ago, when Neil and I stood on the desolate, barren, yet beautiful, Sea of Tranquility, looking back at our brilliant blue planet Earth suspended in the darkness of space, I realized that even though we were farther away from earth than two humans had ever been, we were not alone. Virtually the entire world took that memorable journey with us.

I know I am joined by many millions of others from around the world in mourning the passing of a true American hero and the best pilot I ever knew. My friend Neil took the small step but giant leap that changed the world and will forever be remembered as a historic moment in human history.

I had truly hoped that on July 20th, 2019, Neil, Mike and I would be standing together to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of our moon landing, as we also anticipated the continued expansion of humanity into space, that our small mission helped make possible. Regrettably, this is not to be. Neil will most certainly be there with us in spirit.

On behalf of the Aldrin family, we extend our deepest condolences to Carol and the entire Armstrong family. I will miss my friend Neil as I know our fellow citizens and people around world will miss this foremost aviation and space pioneer.

May he Rest in Peace, and may his vision for our human destiny in space be his legacy."

I'd like to see Lydia do a tribute post on Neil Armstrong. After all he epitomizes our era, and where we came from. We're literally the last generation alive that saw those days and the moonwalk.

When we're gone, there won't be anyone left who saw it.

Sort of weird thought actually, but I just realized that when we're gone, there won't be any humans left who saw the moonwalk. We're the last of an era.

Anyway a nice tribute to Neil Armstrong would be good I think.

  21. Anonymous4:27 PM

Neil Armstrong didn't read from the Bible. Frank Borman, Bill Anders and Jim Lovell did.

Buzz Aldrin gave himself communion on the moon, but kept it between him and NASA.

And I never had a problem with it, nor did NASA. They were sued by an atheist for the Genesis reading, but the suit was dismissed.

But that doesn't change the fact that separation of church and state is still a valid American principle that dates back to Thomas Jefferson and James Madison.

There's always those on both sides who carry a principle too far. The atheist who sued was a prime example, as is the Tea Party candidates who try to instill THEIR version of Christianity, into OUR government.

  22. Rule changes forced through by Romney campaign at RNC provoke grassroots backlash

Rule changes pushed through by the Romney campaign that appear designed to prevent an insurgent candidacy like that of Ron Paul from mounting any meaningful challenge to the party establishment in the future are provoking a strong grassroots reaction.

One blogger at the website of the pro-Tea Party organization FreedomWorks complained on Sunday, “As you may know the Romney camp is pushing new rules that would strip grassroots activists of any meaningful ability to participate in presidential politics. The process has always been bottom-up, but Romney officials have rewritten the rules so that the nominee can stifle any dissent on the platform committee and even unseat delegates.”

As described by Business Insider, the trouble began at a meeting of the Rules Committee on Friday, when leaders of the Romney campaign, led by lawyer Ben Ginsberg, forced through a series of changes designed to make it more difficult for insurgent candidates to win convention delegates..

“Make no mistake,” the FreedomWorks piece complains, “this will weaken the process by which Republicans chose their candidate for president and push the grassroots out of the party process. … Please locate the phone number of your State Republican Party Headquarters below, call them immediately, and tell them to oppose Romney’s new rules.”

Wanna bet in two years the right wing know nothings (IE teatards) forget how Ginsberg screwed them over in 2012, like Rove screwed over the insurgent republicans behind McCain, in 2000?

According to a source who described the meeting to Business Insider, “the saga ended with former New Hampshire Governor John Sununu, the committee chair, hightailing it out of the building before committee members could submit dissenting minority opinions, or ‘minority reports.’”

Maine state committeewoman Ashley Ryan told Business Insider that committee members had immediately drafted two minority reports objecting to the changes, but that Sununu’s disappearance made it impossible to know whether they had reached him within the one-hour time limit needed for them to be accepted.

You remember John Sununu, the former member of Bush Sr's administration who had to resign for using hundreds of thousands of dollars of military travel for his personal reasons.

Ginsberg has had a bad reputation on the left for years, stemming from his role in the 2000 Florida recount, his service as legal counsel to the Swiftboat Veterans in 2004, and similar episodes. Now he may have made himself just as cordially disliked by the right.

Ginsberg screwing over true American democracy for over a decade. This time the teatards are getting Ginsbergs shaft.

“He is systematically trying to prevent minorities from having even any remote opportunity of being heard,” longtime GOP operative Morton Blackwell objected.

Like any right wing suck up to their corporate masters, screw over anybody who stands in the way of the powerful few from getting their way.

Like the teatards are doing to minorities who just want their right to vote.

Arctic ice melts to record low: US researchers

    AFP – 2 hrs 39 mins ago

The sea ice in the Arctic Ocean has melted to its smallest ever level in the latest dramatic sign of the long-term impact of global warming, US researchers said Monday.

Scientists at the University of Colorado at Boulder said that data recorded Sunday broke the 2007 record for the lowest extent of sea ice and that the melt could become even more significant with several weeks of summer left to go.

The National Snow and Ice Data Center at the university said in a statement that the decline in summer Arctic sea ice "is considered a strong signal of long-term climate warming."

On Thursday, February 15th 2001 (and replayed on March 19), the Fox TV network aired a program called ``Conspiracy Theory: Did We Land on the Moon?'', hosted by X-Files actor Mitch Pileggi. The program was an hour long, and featured interviews with a series of people who believe that NASA faked the Apollo Moon landings in the 1960s and 1970s. The biggest voice in this is Bill Kaysing, who claims to have all sorts of hoax evidence, including pictures taken by the astronauts, engineering details, discussions of physics and even some testimony by astronauts themselves. The program's conclusion was that the whole thing was faked in the Nevada desert (in Area 51, of course!). According to them, NASA did not have the technical capability of going to the Moon, but pressure due to the Cold War with the Soviet Union forced them to fake it.

  40. Along with the Arctic ice, the rich world's smugness will melt

The belief that Europe and America will be hit least by climate change is in ruins. Yet all we do is try to profit from disaster

There are no comparisons to be made. This is not like war or plague or a stockmarket crash. We are ill-equipped, historically and psychologically, to understand it, which is one of the reasons why so many refuse to accept that it is happening.

What we are seeing, here and now, is the transformation of the atmospheric physics of this planet. Three weeks before the likely minimum, the melting of Arctic sea ice has already broken the record set in 2007. The daily rate of loss is now 50% higher than it was that year. The daily sense of loss – of the world we loved and knew – cannot be quantified so easily.

The Arctic has been warming roughly twice as quickly as the rest of the northern hemisphere. This is partly because climate breakdown there is self-perpetuating. As the ice melts, for example, exposing the darker sea beneath, heat that would previously have been reflected back into space is absorbed.

This great dissolution, of ice and certainties, is happening so much faster than most climate scientists predicted that one of them reports: "It feels as if everything I've learned has become obsolete." In its last assessment, published in 2007, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change noted that "in some projections, Arctic late-summer sea ice disappears almost entirely by the latter part of the 21st century". These were the most extreme forecasts in the panel's range. Some scientists now forecast that the disappearance of Arctic sea-ice in late summer could occur in this decade or the next.

As I've warned repeatedly, but to little effect, the IPCC's assessments tend to be conservative. This is unsurprising when you see how many people have to approve them before they are published.

.... probably as shocking to the fox noise crowd, but much more relevant to the survival of them and their descendants .....

  41. This graph shows how dire the problem is becoming.

Many people who study the science put the zero point on the graph as happening by 2020 .........

think you will be alive in 2020, then this is a problem YOU will face also.

    Got children?

They will face this problem for their entire adult life, and it will only get worse.

That is the simple facts no amount of right wing denier-ism will ever make go away.
Spin, deny, obscucate, and the problem will just keep on getting worse.

Of course half the billionaires who fund the denier campo will not face the problem for long.

Not the 80+ year old Koch Brothers, nor 70 year old Sheldon Adelson.

The wingnut pretend christians can pray to jebus to save them but that ain't gonna happen any more then he will save the Arctic ice.

The weather will get more and more extreme,

    Agriculture more unreliable

    People starve and suffer .....

But what happens in the Arctic, doesn’t stay in the Arctic. The rapid disappearance of sea ice cover can have consequences that are felt all over the Northern Hemisphere, due to the effects it has on atmospheric patterns. As the ice pack becomes smaller ever earlier into the melting season, more and more sunlight gets soaked up by dark ocean waters, effectively warming up the ocean. The heat and moisture that are then released to the atmosphere in fall and winter could be leading to disturbances of the jet stream, the high-altitude wind that separates warm air to its south from cold air to the north. A destabilized jet stream becomes more ‘wavy’, allowing frigid air to plunge farther south, a possible factor in the extreme winters that were experienced all around the Northern Hemisphere in recent years. Another side-effect is that as the jet stream waves become larger, they slow down or even stall at times, leading to a significant increase in so-called blocking events. These cause extreme weather simply because they lead to unusually prolonged conditions of one type or another. The recent prolonged heatwave, drought and wildfires in the USA are one example of what can happen; another is the cool, dull and extremely wet first half of summer 2012 in the UK and other parts of Eurasia.

But nothing will be done till long after anything can conceivably be done to stop the problem from getting out of control like it seem to be doing right now,

“Humanity is conducting an unintended, uncontrolled, globally pervasive experiment whose ultimate consequences could be second only to a global nuclear war. The Earth’s atmosphere is being changed at an unprecedented rate by pollutants resulting from human activities, inefficient and wasteful fossil fuel use and the effects of rapid population growth in many regions. These changes represent a major threat to international security and are already having harmful consequences over many parts of the globe.”

Once you cross that bridge, where you doubt things like evolution, global warming, the age of the earth, etc, then making the transition to doubting the moon landings is easy.

“Many of the observed changes noted above are beyond what can be explained by the natural variability of the climate. It is clear from extensive scientific evidence that the dominant cause of the rapid change in climate of the past half century is human-induced increases in the amount of atmospheric greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide (CO2), chlorofluorocarbons, methane, and nitrous oxide. The most important of these over the long term is CO2, whose concentration in the atmosphere is rising principally as a result of fossil-fuel combustion and deforestation. While large amounts of CO2 enter and leave the atmosphere through natural processes, these human activities are increasing the total amount in the air and the oceans. Approximately half of the CO2 put into the atmosphere through human activity in the past 250 years has been taken up by the ocean and terrestrial biosphere, with the other half remaining in the atmosphere. Since long-term measurements began in the 1950s, the atmospheric CO2 concentration has been increasing at a rate much faster than at any time in the last 800,000 years. Having been introduced into the atmosphere it will take a thousand years for the majority of the added atmospheric CO2 to be removed by natural processes, and some will remain for thousands of subsequent years.

I watched it myself just about a month ago on Youtube. Here's a link to it if you like.

Its not "Fox Entertainment". Its a "Fox Television Documentary" and is presented as an "investigation" of the Moon Landings.

Its presented in investigative journalist style like you'd see a 20/20 episode.

And the so called "disclaimer" at the beginning they briefly show states that this is not the "only possible INTERPRETATION" and invites the viewer to "DECIDE FOR THEMSELVES", ....as if the moon landings were something OPEN TO INTERPRETATION.

Right off the bat they cast doubt on the landings by doing that. Just like they do with global warming, and any other scientific or historical event that doesn't meet with their 'beliefs'.

The entire thing is completely ONE SIDED, and is one of the reasons so many kooks out there believe this nonsense.

Note its a three panel group, but TWO of the panel are deniers.

Also note, that although Geraldo briefly states in passing twice that he "BELIEVES WE WENT" (historical fact doesn't require our belief anymore than the sum of 2+2 requires we believe its 4), he also repeats the conspirators claims and even seems to be challenging Bill Nye (the 3rd member of the "Panel".

Which is the game Fox News loves to play.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Anonymous5:42 PM

Its not a matter of "belief". Its a matter of historical fact.

As for the "shadows" and such, there is no discrepancy. These are claims made by the conspiracy theorists based on nothing other than their belief, or disbelief if you will.

There's nothing wrong with the photos. The shadows act like they do here on earth.

The issue of the stars is a non issue. Jim Lovell pointed out on Apollo 8 that the sky was "starless". Look at the picture of "EARTH RISE". No stars.

Yet these conspiracy theorists use the stars thing as one of their chief claims.

Try walking outside on a moonlit night and take a picture of the sky. There won't be any stars in it. Its because they're too dim to be photographed with another brighter light source present.

On the moon, the astronauts were ALWAYS in daylight, so OF COURSE they couldn't see stars!

Pardon the pun, but its not "rocket science". Any child can easily dismiss their "claims". It doesn't take "technical knowledge".

    It just takes eyeballs.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Anonymous5:57 PM

Buzz Aldrin explained why he can't stand the conspiracy theorists or those who lend credence to it and why he now won't give it the time of day.

He explained that its damaging young minds.

These theorists not only cast doubt on the greatest advancement in scientific exploration in human history, but they cast doubt in science itself.

And in the United States of America, something our youth today don't need more of.

If Fox had presented this "Investigative Documentary" (Yes, if you watch it, you'll see right up front they state clearly its an "investigation into the moon landings") by showing the easily available debunking facts out there then that would be one thing. But they don't. Its one sided.

Which is why scientists from NASA had to come out with their own debunking videos because so many kids out there see this stuff and "believe" it. You think kids, teenagers, or the sort of nuts that would believe this stuff discern the difference between Fox Television and Fox News? Especially when its presented as "INVESTIGATIVE"?

    Newsflash. They don't.

So what this "Investigative Documentary" did, was spread this nonsense to millions of young minds everywhere, and now kids grow up with no faith in science, America, NASA or this great, historical achievement that I watched with a BILLION other people, live back in July 1969.

Its doing damage. So when you say you "believe" we went, that's just casting doubt on the historicity of the event.

Just like when republican leaders say they "Believe" Obama was born in the US.

Facts like the moon landing don't require your "belief". They're historical fact, and casting doubt on them is just part of the bigger umbrella of casting doubt on science and government, two favorite stump points of the Tea party loons.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Anonymous6:12 PM

Just like Bill Nye pointed out today on that video that these Tea Party parents teaching their kids the earth is 6000 years old, or that evolution is false is doing damage.

Just like "disbelief" in global warming causes real harm not just to young minds, but to the planet itself.

The Moon Landings were never, ever in doubt. If there had been the least inkling of a question then the USSR who had tracking and satellites in orbit not to mention had already been to the moon with a probe would have been all over it.

These things came up recently from the anti science nutjobs out there.

Bill Kaysing's a fringe loon that lives in a couple of abandoned trailers in the desert with a few hundred cats.

Lending credence to these kooks, is doing real harm.

And FOX, is the only one lending credence to them.

So when the "Investigative" team over at Fox presents it as ""Did we land on the moon? Was the entire thing faked in a Hollywood set? YOU BE THE JUDGE!"......they're doing nothing but rotting the minds of millions of young minds.

Which is why since this "Investigation" aired back in 2010, doubt of the moonlandings has increased tenfold.

It used to be only the wingnut fringe that bought into that nonsense. But thanks to the Fox special, reruns and being made perpetually available online, now more and more people are "judging for themselves".

Which is why every 3rd or 4th comment in the Neil Armstrong tribute articles are from one of these conspiracy theory kooks.

"Although nearly all domain experts agree that human CO2 emissions are altering the world’s climate, segments of the public remain unconvinced by the scientific evidence. Internet blogs have become a vocal platform for climate denial, and bloggers have taken a prominent and influential role in questioning climate science. We report a survey (N > 1100) of climate blog users to identify the variables underlying acceptance and rejection of climate science."

    View as pdf or html

The studied the people who watched the liars at fox try to spin their anti government agenda against the moon landings, and of course the stoo-pid people who actually believe the liars at fox who claim AGW isn't real of the result of burning hundreds of millions of years of sequestered carbon in 200 years.

    as all studies of right wing anti intelligence they end upo with the same result;

People who watch and believe the garbage fox broadcasts, end up believing what they WANT to believe instead of accepting science.

From what I can see Clif, the recent embracing of the "Moon Hoax" conspiracies by FOX are being used to help shore up disbelief in global warming.

With NASA currently studying global warming in depth and providing public information on it it makes it hard for the wingnut deniers since NASA holds such a revered and respected place in the hearts of most Americans, with the moon landings being at the top of the list of their accomplishments that Americans admire.

So by casting doubt on the moon landing Fox helps shore up doubt on global warming. After all if they lied about the moon landings then its not a far stretch to conclude they're lying about global warming.

Fox is doing more damage to American minds than booze or drugs ever could.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Anonymous4:49 PM

That's why their people like Voltron here say they "believe" we went to the moon, rather than simply "of course we went to the moon".

Because by stating they "believe" we did it, they identify it as a matter of "belief" rather than simple historical fact.

No one says "I believe we fought Germany in WWII", or "I believe the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor".

They're historical facts so belief doesn't enter the picture.

But now suddenly, Neil Armstrong's HISTORIC walk on the moon is a matter for "belief" to these wingnuts.

Something we have to "decide" whether or not it happened.

Guys like Voltron, who don't want to be identified as a complete tin foil hat wearing loon don't want to step on the toes of his compatriot deniers, so rather than simply stating "of course we walked on the moon" or words to that effect, he frames it as a matter of personal "BELIEF", thus paving the way for his wingnut comrades to state their "BELIEF" that it didn't happen.

Its the oldest trick in the book, but one these lunatics and liars at Fox and the right wing nutjobs who watch it use quite effectively.

By changing historical fact to a subject to be "BELIEVED" or "DISBELIEVED", he actually discredits it without having to come out and discredit it.

Here, I'll do his next post for him.

"..so let me see if I have this straight. Now if I say I believe the moonwalks took place, you're saying that I'm casting doubt on it? Now saying I believe it happened, means I think it didn't happen?"

    ..then I'll respond;

'No, that's not what I said. What you're doing is "Casting doubt" on it, by reducing it from a historical fact, to a matter for individual belief'.

Then he'll proceed to chuckle and pretend he doesn't understand the difference between belief and historical fact, because he can't now take the side of pointing out issues with it, otherwise he'll be seen for the doubter that would make him at that point, something he's already said he's not.

Then he'll run off declaring me nuts and pretend to be superior and aloof, never once acknowledging the fact that he just reduced the historical landings on the moon by the United States, as a matter of individual belief.

The republicans do this all the time. Its their entire way of operating.

Its the old "bad cop, not so bad cop" routine.

One of them plays bad cop, and declares the moon landings a hoax.

Then the other takes a softer stance yet still leaving sufficient credence to bad cops claim, being careful not to discredit it.

Everyone knows we landed on the moon.

It was the single most watched live television news event, in human history.

A BILLION people watched it live.

We have voluminous conclusive proof of the landings from trajectory tracking by the Soviets to pictures of the actual landing craft still there today, to visible tire tracks left by the rover to equipment left behind that still is used today to measure the precise distance to the moon to hours and hours of actual video to thousands of photographs to pieces of the moon itself.

There is no "question" whether or not we went. No doubt.

    Never was.

But yet that doesn't stop the wingnut that is voltron, from reducing it to a matter of individual "Belief", lest he be caught exposing his wingnut compatriots for the tin foil hat wearing LUNATICS, that they are.

You wouldn't say you "believe World War 2 is real".

    No reason to.

Its a matter of human history.

NOT a matter for "individual belief".

    Same with the Moon landings.

They're not something people have to decide to believe or disbelieve in.

They're a matter of human history.

Sorry to go off on this one Clif but given the passing of Neil Armstrong I just couldn't let Voltron walk away with his passing cheap attempt to discredit the lunar landings.

He pulls this sort of stuff all the time.

When a significant portion of his party members take up a stance (or worse when Fox does it) that is just so incredibly absurd that even he can't adopt it with a straight face, he tries this sort of nonsense to try to shore up their position while not actually adopting it himself.

Same thing Fox did with the special.

Sure they didn't come out and say they actually doubt the moon landings took place.

Instead they reduced it to a matter of personal belief, just like Voltron just did.

With their "Were the moonwalk landings fake?, YOU BE THE JUDGE!" nonsense, they reduce the moon landings to a matter of individual belief instead of the historical fact that they are.

And he did the exact same thing there, and thought himself clever in the process.

    ReplyDelete

Because this ties into global warming.

If they can cast doubt as to NASA's moon landings, and make people at least think its possible they lied to us about them, then they can easily convince people NASA's lying to us on global warming.

Puerto Rican party functionary—Zoraida Fonalledas, the chairwoman of the Committee on Permanent Organization—took her turn at the main-stage lectern. As she began speaking in her accented English, some in the crowd started shouting “U.S.A. U.S.A.” The chanting carried on for nearly a minute while most of the other delegates and the media stood by in stunned silence. The Puerto Rican correspondent turned to me and asked, “Is this happening?” I said I honestly didn’t know what was happening—it was astonishing to see all the brittle work of narrative construction that is a modern political convention suddenly crack before our eyes. None of us could quite believe what we were seeing: A sea of twentysomething bowties and cowboy hats morphing into frat bros apparently shrieking over (or at) a Latina. RNC chairman Reince Priebus quickly stepped up and asked for order and respect for the speaker, suggesting that, yeah, what we had just seen might well have been an ugly outburst of nativism."

I knew long ago about Lydias suffocating divorce (and other things) but have never bugged her about it.

I really wanted to take the "journalism" course at college, however, after a thorough investigation by me I discovered that work in this field can be difficult to obtain. Therefore,I took something more practical and became a licensed Welder/Pipefitter.

I obtained a full diploma - three licenses - a strong letter of recommendation - blueprint reading - and graduated at the top of my class. I paid off my student loan, without outside help......period!

Ultimately, I dislike this type of work.

As for my 18 year relationship to a neurotic, disturbed, nut who took COMPLETE advantage of the liberal side of JMM (and made him feel responsible for all her earthly woes)...........I wont discuss this on a public blog......think I'm stupid asshole!?

But,I will say that the illusory belief that all women are nothing more than harmless, innocent, butterflies on a goodwill mission to save the universe is pure 100% bullshit.....period!

I didn't like it either, but I did pretty nice work. Even did a curved stairwell once, where I had to wet the rock to bend it without breaking it.

Its not bad work, but sanding sucks. Unless you wet sand but I preferred dry sanding because we were faster and I liked the results better. Except for the dust.

    As for the ant farm,

Too late for the ant farm from an AGW perspective.

With .8C degrees of global heating most of the Arctic ice is gone during the summer months. Given we have already set up at least 30-35 years more warming because of the carbon we released from burning hundreds of millions of years of sequestered carbon into the earths biosphere upsetting the balance nature had.

We face a Arctic with no ice during the summer at least, but many scientists see a year round ice free Arctic, which will change the climate in ways the human race has never dealt with. That means the heat sink the Arctic has been for all of human development will be gone, and the ability of 7+ billion people tom survive on an ever changing planet with much more extreme weather conditions is very suspect.

Not a good recipe if your one of the 7+ billion people at that time.

Sorry if my views do not meet your personal approval, but too damn bad mook mook. Stick your heat back in the sand or your celluloid fantasies but the future of the planet is looking bleaker each year ad climate change keeps unfolding.
