REST IN PEACE FARRAH! WE LOVE YOU
Farrah Fawcett, former Charlie’s Angels actress has passed away at the age of 62. Fawcett had been diagnosed with cancer in 2006 and died at 9:28 a.m. PST at St. John’s Heath Center in Santa Monica, Calif. Her longtime partner, Ryan O’Neal, was with her when she died.

Farrah was my idol for a time. I loved her soft sweetness. She had class and humility. I was a feminist, but had to dumb myself down to make it in Hollywood. She seemed to be a bit too real for this town, and too sensitive. I wish she had found AA or any 12-step program for dealing with her demons. It's the fastest way to real peace.

Farrah wasn't arrogant as the posers are today. Sorry Paris, but you introduced the "smirk" and the home porno tape — along with Pam Anderson — and you ruined a generation of girls.

Though the show I did with Ted Knight "Too Close For Comfort" was in the 80's, we all copied Farrah's hairstyle. I had the feathered-back wings. You could land a 747 on my head.

'Charlie's Angel' Farrah Fawcett dies at 62

By BOB THOMAS
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Farrah Fawcett, the "Charlie's Angels" star whose feathered blond hair and dazzling smile made her one of the biggest sex symbols of the 1970s, died Thursday after battling cancer. She was 62.

The pop icon, who in the 1980s set aside the fantasy girl image to tackle serious roles, died shortly before 9:30 a.m. in a Santa Monica hospital, spokesman Paul Bloch said.

Ryan O'Neal, the longtime companion who had reunited with Fawcett as she fought anal cancer, was at her side, along with close friend Alana Stewart, Bloch said.

"After a long and brave battle with cancer, our beloved Farrah has passed away," O'Neal said. "Although this is an extremely difficult time for her family and friends, we take comfort in the beautiful times that we shared with Farrah over the years and the knowledge that her life brought joy to so many people around the world."

"Farrah had courage, she had strength, and she had faith. And now she has peace as she rests with the real angels," Jaclyn Smith said.

Said Cheryl Ladd: "She was incredibly brave, and God will be welcoming her with open arms."
Fawcett burst on the scene in 1976 as one-third of the crime-fighting trio in TV's "Charlie's Angels." A poster of her in a clingy swimsuit sold in the millions.

Her full, layered hairstyle became all the rage, with girls and women across America adopting the look.

She left the show after one season but had a flop on the big screen with "Somebody Killed Her Husband." She turned to more serious roles in the 1980s and 1990s, winning praise playing an abused wife in "The Burning Bed."

She had been diagnosed with cancer in 2006. As she underwent treatment, she enlisted the help of O'Neal, who was the father of her now 24-year-old son, Redmond.

This month, O'Neal said he asked Fawcett to marry him and she agreed, but they were unable to wed before she died.

Her struggle with painful treatments and dispiriting setbacks was recorded in the television documentary "Farrah's Story." Fawcett sought cures in Germany as well as the United States, battling the disease with iron determination even as her body weakened. NBC estimated the May 15, 2009, broadcast drew nearly 9 million viewers.

In the documentary, Fawcett was seen shaving off most of her trademark locks before chemotherapy could claim them. Toward the end, she's seen huddled in bed, barely responding to a visit from her son.

Charlies Angels

Fawcett, Kate Jackson and Smith made up the original "Angels," the sexy, police-trained trio of martial arts experts who took their assignments from a rich, mysterious boss named Charlie (John Forsythe, who was never seen on camera but whose distinctive voice was heard on speaker phone.)

The program debuted in September 1976, the height of what some critics derisively referred to as television's "jiggle show" era, and it gave each of the actresses ample opportunity to show off their figures as they disguised themselves in bathing suits and as hookers and strippers to solve crimes.

We hang the petty thieves and appoint the great ones to public office. Aesop

  2. Will, you are wrong. The point is, Republicans preach about family values and condemn Clinton and condemn gays, but are guilty of the very things they condemn everyone for.

They are the loudest, most unforgiving and judgmental of the very thing they are guilty of.

All of this is un-Christian by the way. Christ only cared about human kindness.

When it comes to war, CHENEY lied, promoted war, pushed for war, BUT GOT 5 DRAFT DEFERRMENTS!!

    DON'T YOU GET IT?

Liberals are the peacemakers, following the true Christian ethic sometimes without the label or without even knowing it. Liberals don't want war and never push for war.

The hyocrites are the ones that duck out of war, but PUSH FOR WAR.

    Got it???

Stay away from the Bible Belt; they have GUNS down there!" Funny line from Alan Arkin film. These "Christians" are the opposite of Christ.

Could anything be more bizarre than calling yourself a Christian, but doing the opposite of everything the Great Peacemaker taught?

Maybe they don't know that Christ is the root of the word Christianity because the vowel sounds are different!

  6. I responded to this point, Lydia, at the end of the last thread. Oh, and , FYI, Joe Biden got 5 draft deferrments, too. Yeah, that's right, THAT Joe Biden - the same Joe Biden who gave the neophyte George W. Bush a blank check to go to war in Iraq. The same Joe Biden who idiotically cast this vote to cover his ass for not supporting the first Gulf War. The same Joe Biden who miraculously came up with an asthma ailment to get out of serving in Vietnam (he never even mentioned asthma in his autobiography, for Christ!). The same Joe Biden who preaches helping the poor but who only gave .3% of his salary to charity. My point is a very simple one, Lydia. There's hypocrisy and fuzzy thinking on BOTH sides of the aisle. 99.9% of the fair-minded people in this country agree with that statement. For some reason, you do not.

  7. New post up about Michael Jackson, I've been twittering about it, which posts to my Facebook page.

Mike - I have no access to my email today, will resend your letter as soon as I can.

Will, my point is that you should never bring up stuff like this unless you know all the secrets we know and you acknowldege the truly criminal behavior of the neocons who STARTED these wars and whose entire thougth process is against every humane instinct.

Please do some real research on the hypocrisy of these evil men.

  8. And Will, when I say "secrets we know" you haven't hosted a radio show for 2 years with books that no one will allow in the mainstream media that were written by Republican insiders, military, attorney generals and people shocked and disgusted by what Cheney, Rove and Bush did to our country and the lies Rush, Hannity, O'Reilly and the unAmerican propagandists told to promote true evil.

If you really wanted to know the history, you would.

  9. Michael Jackson and Farrah -- two new angels. The sweet souls... both too sensitive for this world.

    Michael was an absolute genius.

  10. I watched "So you think you can dance" tonight and they did a truly beautiful tribute to Michael Jackson. Love him or hate him, nobody can deny he was THE icon of the 80's and was as much of an influence on the singer/dancer of today's pop world as The Beatles were of musical groups.

I truly believe he achieved what so few others have before him ... Elvis did it ... John, Paul, George and Ringo did it ... Michael Jackson did it -- they all achieved immortality.

    Rest in Peace, Michael.

  11. As for Farrah ... I spent the afternoon in shock. I posted this in my blog today but I just have to share it here too:

    Farrah Fawcett has passed away.

Even typing the words it's hard to grasp that idea ... growing up, she was among my first Hollywood crushes. Her hair, her legs, that smile that turned my knees to butter ...

I remember watching her play tennis on "Battle of the Network Stars" and the announcer would tell the score "Love 15" or something along those lines and my brothers and I would respond with "Love Farrah!"

Farrah, for the impact you had on me and all the boys in my generation, for the impact you had on abused women when you released "The Burning Bed", for the never-quit attitude and courage you displayed when you came down with cancer ... thank you, I'll miss you, I love you.

Farrah Fawcett ... today's best person. May she rest forever in peace.

  12. Lydia, I have no use for George Bush. Zero. I have even less respect for Cheney (the post 9/11 Cheney, in particular). I just don't have a lot of faith in the Dems, either (most of them, anyway). That's all.

  13. What a terrible day. I have been gone all day working, and just got in. I opened your blog and saw the story and couldn't believe it. Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett.

I remember listening to Micheal Jackson albums in school in the 3rd grade. The teacher actually brought them in. It was a big deal back then in the 60's. It was during the desegregation years and our school was one of the first trial schools for bussed in black students. We used to love Michael and his music. ABC, easy as one to 3, simple as do ra me, ABC, one two three baby you and me.

As for Farrah, she was my first real young adult crush. I worshipped her. That poster you have on the cover of her in the red bathing suit was all over my bedroom walls. I had several versions of it, including one that was a fuzzy bath mat. (Yes, I even hung the bath mat up). I called it my "Fuzzy Farrah".

Man did I love her. She was the stuff. I can't believe they're both gone, and Michael being so young. He's my age. How insane.

I'm sorry to see them go.

    They will be missed.

  14. I've been watching CNN and MSNBC for about an hour now, and all they're talking about is Micheal Jackson. They've said not one word about Farrah in the last hour.

In fact, CNN just showed his body being transported to the coroners office.

Even Keith Olberman was whoring himself over this. What's wrong with us?

    ReplyDelete
  15. I think the difference, GofW, is Farrah's death was a foregone conclusion ... we all knew it was coming for quite a while now and she passed away in a hospital and away under a doctor's care. Michael's passing was very sudden, unexpected, and happened at home.

In a way, it's kind of fitting. Despite his feigned attempts at secrecy, Michael Jackson loved the spotlight ... while in contrast, Farrah really was a very private person. Both have left behind millions of fans and while the spotlight shines on Jackson one last time, the Farrah fans are mourning her passing quietly.

I expect we'll be seeing a very appropriate tribute to Farrah in the days to come ... but I would much prefer to see that tribute come from Kate Jackson, Jaclyn Smith, Cheryl Ladd, and Lee Majors than Keith Olberrmann, Geraldo Rivera, and Glenn Beck.

  18. Very sad...a sad week all the way around: Ed McMahon, Farrah, and Michael Jackson. Regarding Farrah, she was a true class act. As I said in my facebook notes, there were so many whom wanted to copy her hairstyle and/or her looks - the closest to have ever come to Farrah was Heather Locklear. I put both Farrah and Heather in the same class with Erin Gray, Susan Anton, Anne Lockhart, Jaclyn Smith, yourself, and countless others...women whom I liked, admired and followed. Pam and Paris can't hold a candle to that group.

With MJ's death - I read a quote from Lisa Marie Presley from her blog. She stated that Michael once told her he was heading down a path very similar to Elvis - and the heartbreaking events of August 16, 1977 are being re-lived once again. God Bless Lisa Marie...she's been through so much during the course of her life; but she is very strong and will overcome this latest tragedy.

  20. Michael Jackson never had a chance to figure out how to exist in this world. He was always searching for a way to be redone so that he could perhaps claim that which was denied him from his earliest days. HE never got there, and he was never destined to get there; he went from the abusive household of his youth to a different kind of abuse, as fortune seekers surrounded him and just smiled and nodded at every one of his eccentricities. He was an enormous talent, but a profoundly unhappy person. Let us hope he can now rest.

In happier news, one of McVeigh's violent racist pals has been indicted for an act of violent hatred. I hope the Federales can make this stick and make that scumbag go away forever.
