TOYS FOR TOTS * CANDY CANE LANE

Hi Jolly Roger, MCH, trolls, Volt and JP!!

My husband and I are sitting in Barney's Beanery right now watching the Packers game. Steeler fans are stomping on the floor above me. We have 39 TV screens surrounding us.

Will -- I have not posted an opinion on Rick Warren but my sister (who is gay) filled me in on how truly homophobic he is. I thought he was one of the more enlightened preachers, but I hear he won't allow gays in his church. If this is true and I have yet to investigate this-- then it is HORRIBLE and he is not fit to be Obama's inauguration-giver.

Why didn't Obama pick Jim Wallis? Sojourners???

We had a houseload of kids over every day since Christmas and a party before Christmas. Mom sent us a Costco Card for tons of food and we had 90 people.

I have been baking, scrubbing and cleaning forever!! Then on Christmas eve, stayed up with hubby and wrapped gifts until 3 AM for the kids, stuffed stockings.. and put out cookies for Santa.

Okay I admit it, I'm actually Chevy Chase in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. I really wanted a lighted sleigh on our roof with some reindeer, but even the kids thought it would be too gawdy for our neighborhood.

Here is a photo of Candy Cane Lane in Woodland Hills. I force the family to drive through it every year so I can ooh! and aah over the holiday lights.

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy Channukah, Happy Kwanza and Happy New Year! I love Christmas more than any other time of year. I love seeing the kids' faces when they wake up (in 2 hours!)

God Bless you!
Love,
Lydia and Family
We couldn't get Chazzie to sit still for the camera and you can see he threw off his reindeer antlers.

  8. Merry Christmas to you, too, Lydia "Korniloff" Cornell from one of your friends from Mesita Elementary school. You probably won't remember me but all of us were so sad when you moved away and lost touch with you. We had Mrs Maloney, Mrs. Burrough, Mrs. Deyoe and Mrs Abersold together (if I remember correctly). So glad I found your blog and so happy that you have been such a blessing to others throughout your career! All my best to you and your precious family!!!

  10. BTW as an early Christmas present the Minnesota Supremes just told ole Norm Criminl-man to take a HIKE.

Al Frankin is leading by 47 votes with little possibility for Normy to over come that lead.

The fat lady has one more song to sing this election season.

And it looks like good bye to Normy is a good tune for her.

  11. Enjoy the holiday time with your family. You'll need to be rested up for the challenges ahead.

I had a house full tonight. 3 sons, 2 daughters, a couple of girlfriends, even a 5 year old boy. The dog threatened each newcomer that came in, but other than that, it was a pretty good time.

  12. Just an occasional bomb from time to time. Seriously, though, if a President McCain had invited this homophobe to speak at HIS inauguration, Lydia would have gone apoplectic over it (justifiably so). No complaints whatsoever, though, when Obama does it. LOVE THE CONSISTENCY!!

  20. What's Candy Cane Lane?

  21. Editorial Review for Candy Cane Lane – by Mar Yvette

    In Short
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas: Revived every year during the holidays, Candy Cane Lane is comprised of a few blocks around Oxnard Street and Lubao Avenue in the city of Woodland Hills. Welcoming visitors from all over the Southland, the eye-catching, mind-boggling display of lights and lawn decorations is a holiday tradition for many who park their car and walk the candy-cane lined route. Others, meanwhile, prefer the drive-thru version, with carloads of families oohing and ahhing over the festive scene.

Editorial content is independent of paid advertisers. Any expenses are paid for by Citysearch.

...I think I got lost around there once.

  22. Candy Cane Lane is a suburban section of Woodland HIlls in the Valley (San Fernando Valley) encompassing several blocks of houses -- in which everyone decorates like crazy for Christmas..

It's a tradition and each house has to keep it up or suffer the consequences.

Anyway, we always drive through it during Christmas. When the kids were younger they loved it.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Oh and hello to you as well Lydia.
Hope you had a nice Christmas.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I want to go to Candy Cane Lane but the kids aren't interested. It's only 20 minutes away over Mulholland Drive.

Some houses are so over-the-top, but I love it.

  25. Merry Christmas to you too!! Thanks.

I'm curious about something. Does anyone on this blog have synesthesia?

My son and I have it. We have the kind in which you see numbers and letters in color. "M" and Monday is yellow, Tuesday is forest green, Wednesday is white with stripes in it, Thursday is brown, Friday is green and has a corner; Saturday is whitish...Sunday is root-beer colored.

My son has different colors than I do. He insists that "M" and Monday is green.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I can't say as I do on the letters numbers color thing.

I DO however dream in Technicolor on a Cinemascope screen...

    ReplyDelete
  27. What consequences? How can they force people to celebrate Christmas?

I like Christmas as much as the next guy but aren't Jewish people or others welcome in the neighborhood?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I agree completely Bart. Perhaps you'd better have the ACLU look into this...

  29. These fundies need to be shut down and heavily fined immediately before they offend anyone with their gratuitous displays.

  32. What do you think of Israel bombing Gaza? I am very disturbed by this.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Wasn't Russia condemned for their response to Georgia being over-the-top compared to the initial act?

However now the official response to the Israeli vs Hamas battle is "Israel is completely within it's rights to defend itself"?

Interesting different standard for some reason don't you think?

Similarly when 9/11 happened the US gave the Taliban the opportunity to turn over bin Laden and al Qaeda.

When the Taliban didn't the US declared war ..... however now the same people are calling for India to show restraint even though Pakistan will not turn over the Mumbai plotters-supporters.

It seems some have a double standard for some reason.

PS nothing in my comments reflect about any bloggers on this blog at all, it is to reflect how the corporate owned MSM frames the news for our digestion.

" What do you think of Israel bombing Gaza? I am very disturbed by this."

Hey Lydia. Sounds like you had a good Christmas.

As for this Israel thing I'm not taking sides at this point. I don't have enough information on who "really" started it this time.

But if the reports from the media are true then Hamas pretty much asked for it this time by launching rockets at Isreal. I'd like to know if they were provoked in some way but all in all if you don't want people dropping bombs on you then its a good idea to not drop bombs on them.

Sounds like Hamas came looking for it. And it sounds like they found it.

I just hope Israel stops playing the chickensh$t act by killing civilians and instead launches special forces and surgical strikes to root these Hamas leaders out and put them down once and for all.

Israel does have a right to defend itself. I just hope they do it with honor.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ask yourself this question.

If Cuba hit the United States with rockets today, killing US citizens and destroying valuable resources and infrastructure, would you have a problem with invading Cuba with a military force to knock out their military capability?

    I wouldn't. I can't imagine anyone would.

    ReplyDelete
  36. "I just hope Israel stops playing the chickensh$t act by killing civilians and instead launches special forces and surgical strikes to root these Hamas leaders out and put them down once and for all."

Kinda hard to do Bart when they hide behind children and women. I'm sure you noted one rocket launching station Israel took out was in a residential area...

    ReplyDelete
  37. Also, Clifs Russia allegory doesn't pass muster either.

Russia didn't so much "respond" as they did provoke. They had a huge military build up on Georgia's border and then sent agitators into South Ossetia to provoke Georgia.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Palestinians through the PLO and Hamas have repeatedly attacked Israel for decades, their leadership have rejected numerous peace proposals, the citizenry advocates this and actively votes for it when allowed.

It's time to end it once and for all.

This has nothing to do with a palestinian state and never did. Palestine never existed as a state and as for the general area regarded as Palestine, the largest portion is occupied by Jordan.

    Why don't they attack Jordan?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Its just to bad Jimmy Carter wasnt visiting his Hamas buddies this weekend.

  44. Voltron said...

"Kinda hard to do Bart when they hide behind children and women. I'm sure you noted one rocket launching station Israel took out was in a residential area.."

Well thats because Hamas is a civilian army. Not a conventional force. And yes, they're chickensh$ts too for not breaking away from the civilians. It shows they have no real support. Otherwise they'd be able to conscript their men into service.

Its a bullshit war and its been going on too long. Hamas needs to give it up and Israel needs to start acting like the small super power they are instead of a spinoff of their former Nazi antagonists. The world is sick of these two moron countries not being able to get along.

However given today's strikes by Hamas I'd say Israel has every right to strike back. But they need to do it right.

Too many civilians have nothing more to do with this. They're not enabling. They're not supporting. They're just living in their homes surrounded, no.... saturated with a secret army sort of like a mafia\militia, some 50,000 strong.

Speak out, and you and your family wake up with Cuban neckties. Or more accurately, don't wake up. Try to organize an army, and you and the 15 or 20 brave zealots with you get lined up and shot.

Hamas is very much like Hitlers early SA, only more powerful and without any opposing Factions.

Israel needs to use special forces and tactical strikes along with massive intelligence operations to put an end to Hamas, who clearly does not want peace but either the destruction of Israel or in lieu of that they'll settle for never ending war.

    ReplyDelete
  45. And then there's Bartlebee, who can't even be nice to MCH - MCH, for crying out loud. Everybody likes MCH!!

  46. Russia didn't so much "respond" as they did provoke.

  48. Lydia, i'm no fan of Rick Warren or religious preachers and agents of intolerance like him.............but at this point he's Obama's choice and i'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt just like I did GWB...........if I gave Bush a guy i didnt vote for the benefit of the doubt for 1 1/2-2 years I can give a guy I did vote for the benefit f the doubt for at least that long unless he does something to betray that benefit of the doubt.

Besides Obama is Actually being consistent he stated he wanted to be EVERYONES President and it appears thats what he's doing here........course it does appear as pandering a little but i'm willing to support Obama unless he proves otherwise..........for god sakes the guy hasnt even taken office yet and people are attacking him.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Yea Mike but this guy said some pretty bad things to a large demograph of citizens. Inviting him to offer the invocation at his inauguration is ensured to offend a lot of people and thats just not a good, or smart thing to do.

There's a million preachers out there he could pick from. Why he'd make that choice is beyond me.

I don't know about you but I'm tired of these loud mouthed sausage eating windbags. They're liked used car salesmen only they're selling bullshit. This guy says foul all over him and I would think this is the last guy that Obama wants to put out there.

But, I'll wait and see what happens but it seems like an extremely poor demonstration of judgment and tact.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Look I dont like Rick warren or people like him AT ALL.........I agree I feel Obama should NOT have picked him..........all i'm saying is i'm not going to attack Obama over this i;m gonna bite my tongue on this for now........I think Obama is looking to 2012 and trying to pander to the Evangelicals and Religious Right but i'm just not going to stir the pot and fan the flames of outrage.

I'm not saying its not a legitimate issue and we shouldnt discuss it.........i'm just saying i'm not going to attack or condemn Obama on this right now.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Well I'm not attacking him either.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'm hoping he has a plan. Perhaps he's trying to bring the two sides together.

Perhaps. But on the surface it seems apathetic.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Of course its important to point out that one doesn't have to agree with "everything" he does to support him.

I supported President Bush up to a point. Its not the man with me its what he's doing. I've even supported Bush in here several times when he was in the right on something. I didn't support him personally but I supported him on the issue.

I'm not attacking President elect Obama on this. I'm just pointing out it seems like a poor choice for him to make coming out the gate. It seems to have all downsides and no upsides other than making some far right conservative groups happy.

We'll have to see what he has in mind but I'm certainly not attacking him.

EXACTLY............its people like Will that try to paint you in a box though like if you Dont attack Obama you support warren are against the gay population..........it seems to him its a gotcha moment if you dont agree with EVERYTHING obama says and does and dont attack him with Right wing talking points.

As for Bartlebee, your the biggest dick of them all, a mean-spirted piece of garbage who, yes, throws around a bunch of accusations and never backs them up. And you always chase off the decent people, like MCH. What a jerk. Bartlebee's definition of a lie - anything that doesn't conform to his own ludicrous/myopic version of reality. Even Clif thinks your a liar, for Christ. Piss your pants and get it over with, will ya'.
