SARAH PALIN SLASHED FUNDING FOR TEEN MOMS

The “family values” party has an adulterer on the top of the ticket who dumped his wife because she was disfigured in a car accident. The new wife was a drug addict who stole those drugs from a charity she ran. She fired the whistle blower. Now the vicious veep runing mate has more skeletons in her closet than a “bodies” exhibit. No substance, attack, attack, attack. Watch out glass house owners! Wasn’t this the party that viciously attacked a Vietnam Vet Hero in the last election?Comment from JoeG on SuziQ's blog

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin wrote in her line-item veto changes by hand in this copy of a 2008 spending bill obtained by The Washington Post.

By Paul Kane
ST. PAUL -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican vice-presidential nominee who revealed Monday that her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, earlier this year used her line-item veto to slash funding for a state program benefiting teen mothers in need of a place to live.

After the legislature passed a spending bill in April, Palin went through the measure reducing and eliminating funds for programs she opposed. Inking her initials on the legislation -- "SP" -- Palin reduced funding for Covenant House Alaska by more than 20 percent, cutting funds from $5 million to $3.9 million. Covenant House is a mix of programs and shelters for troubled youths, including Passage House, which is a transitional home for teenage mothers.

According to Passage House's web site, its purpose is to provide "young mothers a place to live with their babies for up to eighteen months while they gain the necessary skills and resources to change their lives" and help teen moms "become productive, successful, independent adults who create and provide a stable environment for themselves and their families."

Palin's own daughter, Bristol, is five months pregnant and has plans to wed.

"Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family," Palin said in a statement released by the McCain campaign. "We ask the media to respect our daughter and Levi's privacy, as has always been the tradition of children of candidates."

Earlier today the Associated Press reported that Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, opposed funding to prevent teen pregnancies, a position that Palin also took as governor. "The explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support," she wrote in a 2006 questionnaire distributed among gubernatorial candidates.

Reporters asked McCain in November 2007 whether he supported grants for sex education in the United States, whether such programs should include directions for using contraceptives and whether he supports President Bush's policy of promoting abstinence.

"Ahhh, I think I support the president's policy," McCain said.

Since Sarah Palin didn't write her own speech, of course, we can't wait to hear her debate foreign policy with Biden...

Putting Words in Palin's Mouth by Hiatt (Washington Post.com)

There was a flutter of attention when McCain campaign manager Rick Davis told a group of Post reporters and editors yesterday that his team was having to rework the vice presidential acceptance speech because the original draft, prepared before Gov. Sarah Palin was chosen, was too "masculine." While we all wondered to ourselves what might make a speech masculine or feminine, no one batted an eye at the underlying revelation: that the campaign was writing the nominee's speech before knowing who the nominee would be.

Even staunch right-winger Dr. Laura Schlesinger says she is "extremely disappointed in the choice of Sarah Palin as the Vice Presidential candidate of the Republican Party...I’m stunned - couldn’t the Republican Party find one competent female with adult children to run for Vice President with McCain?... But really, what kind of role model is a woman whose fifth child was recently born with a serious issue, Down Syndrome, and then goes back to the job of Governor within days of the birth?

I am haunted by the family pictures of the Palins during political photo-ops, showing the eldest daughter, now pregnant with her own child, cuddling the family’s newborn. When Mom and Dad both work full-time (no matter how many folks get involved with the children), it becomes a somewhat chaotic situation. Certainly, if a child becomes ill and is rushed to the hospital, and you’re on the hotline with both Israel and Iran as nuclear tempers are flaring, where’s your attention going to be? Where should your attention be? Well, once you put your hand on the Bible and make that oath, your attention has to be with the government of the United States of America. The Sarah Palin Saga Only Gets Worse
by Robert A. Kezelis

When Vegas starts posting odds on when a VP nominee's name will be withdrawn from consideration, you know that something is brewing.

It turns out that there's more fire than smoke. The questions keep growing, so let's keep it simple, who, how, why, when, and where.

WHO
Even I hate to admit it, especially after Hillary joined them, there is a hidden conspiracy that stands against America, our constitution, our future, our freedoms. It is a Christian cabal. A D.C. centered group of rich, insane, power-hungry, conspirators who wish to control the destiny of this country in their direction. It is not a direction of which our founding fathers would have approved. It is, more than any other danger that our country faces, our most evil enemy. It also selected Sarah Palin. They met recently, vetted her, approved of her religious fascism, and promoted, then sold her to John McCain.

The Nation, one of the finest independent papers in this country, has the story:

The members of the Council for National Policy are the hidden hand behind McCain's Palin pick. With her selection, the Republican nominee is suddenly -- and unexpectedly -- assured of the support of a movement that once opposed his candidacy with all its might. Case in point: while Dobson once said he could "never" vote for McCain, he issued a statement last week hailing Palin as an "outstanding" choice. If Dobson's enthusiasm for Palin is any indication, he may soon emerge from his bunker in Colorado Springs to endorse McCain, providing the Republican nominee with the backing of the Christian right's single most influential figure.

HOW
John McCain has long ceased being his own person. From 2000 to today, the differences between McCain the Maverick, to McCain the NeoConMan are striking. Parsing the difference in behavior and personality is difficult. Some, including me, have suggested that he suffers from Senile Dementia. Others simply call McCain a political whore, willing to do and say anything to get elected. Still others simply say that he is a convenient politician. What works is convenient.

No matter the cause, no matter the reason, or combination thereof, McCain has sold his campaign to the Rovian club he recently collected, and then sold his soul to the ultra far right fringe of Christian theology. The Council chose Sarah Palin for him, in exchange for their support.

WHY
Do not believe the polls. The idea that 4 more yrs of Bush would ever receive 42% support in a national election is ridiculous. Internal polling shows a bigger lead for Obama, despite a serious impact of racism.

Sarah Palin, like any former beauty queen, is there simply to be a distraction. Avoid the hard questions, confuse and confound the enemy, and always change the discussion and the topic. The Rovian leaders within the McCain camp know how bad the future is, and this bowing to the ultra-religious-dominionist Cabal is a brilliant, timely, calculated move. On one hand, it throws those insane nuts a handful of crumbs. When she is replaced, (and rest assured, she will be), they will have been pacified. On the other hand, if she somehow manages to survive what is looking more and more like a serious vetting by serious investigators, she pretty much locks up the fundie vote for McCain. Despite being a Creationist nutcase herself.

WHE
When did the fall of Sarah start? Early, often, consistently.
When she demanded what amounted to a loyalty oath from her tiny town's employees, she showed her true colors. When she fired capable people simply because they did not kiss her feet sufficiently, she laid out her future behavior. When she headed a Senator Stevens 527 group, pushing for his re-election, despite serious ethical charges building up, she showed how corrupt she herself is. When she stood up next to Ted, pledging her support, she confirmed it. And when she scrubbed her website of those events, she showed that her campaign has a high school student on board with some smarts.

Palin's name is listed on 2003 incorporation papers of the "Ted Stevens Excellence in Public Service, Inc.," a 527 group that could raise unlimited funds from corporate donors. The group was designed to serve as a political boot camp for Republican women in the state. She served as one of three directors until June 2005, when her name was replaced on state filings.

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/09...

I just hope whoever cleansed her website isn't impregnated at the age of 16. That might impact Sarah's family values positions.

Oh, wait. That already happened.

WHERE
Where will America find out about the true Sarah? Certainly not on cable news. Never on your local borecasts. Not in your local newspaper, especially when too many subscribe to the AP service, a failing, politicized, dysfunctional group that would rather protect the status quo than to fix their growing Fournier problem. WaPo tries. NYT tries. Even some western papers are investigating and reporting. But Gustav visuals are simply too "gnus-worthy"

Where will you learn about the real Sarah Palin? The Netroots. Be grateful they exist. It might just save this country yet.

OBAMA'S MAGNIFICENT NIGHT

Obama has transcended petty partisan politics by uniting us all in a speech that was severe, hard-hitting and transformational. He is a true leader and not a "celebrity." This election is about US: you and me, patriotic Americans joining together against the dark forces of corporate greed, cronyism, oil and war profiteering. Obama is a symbol of the American Dream and of our enlightened nature as a people. No matter what devious political maneuvering McCain and the Rovebots engage in — the TRUTH will win, for the truth has a liberal bias. Obama simply told the truth with strength, passion, empathy and honesty. - Lydia

  1. Ah, the vicious left-wing smear starts. First she's a 'MILF' now a sinister Christian.

    [Palin] could become a transformative political presence. So they are going to have to kill her, and kill her quick. And it's going to be brutal...

    I think the left will go hard on this: Fringe. Radical. What goes on in her church? Isn't she extreme?

    Peggy Noonan: Yeah.

    Mike Murphy: You know, because I come out of the blue swing state governor world: Engler, Whitman, Tommy Thompson, Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush. I mean, these guys -- this is how you win a Texas race, just run it up. And it's not gonna work. And --

    PN: It's over.

    MM: Still McCain can give a version of the Lieberman speech to do himself some good.

    CT: I also think the Palin pick is insulting to Kay Bailey Hutchinson, too.

    PN: Saw Kay this morning.

    CT: Yeah, she's never looked comfortable about this --

    MM: They're all bummed out.

    CT: Yeah, I mean is she really the most qualified woman they could have turned to?

    PN: The most qualified? No! I think they went for this -- excuse me-- political bullshit about narratives --

    CT: Yeah they went to a narrative.

    MM: I totally agree.

    PN: Every time the Republicans do that, because that's not where they live and it's not what they're good at, they blow it.

    MM: You know what's really the worst thing about it? The greatness of McCain is no cynicism, and this is cynical.

    CT: This is cynical, and as you called it, gimmicky.

    MM: Yeah.

    Looks like the unrest of the republican insiders is getting louder.

  11. Oh and for all the news about the PUMA's which ended up to be a lot of hot air and relatively few people;

    What about the real convention controversy, the Ron Paul counter convention which is taking place in Minneapolis even if the corporate owned national MSM isn't reporting about it;

    Paul Plays Up Role as Party Outcast, With GOP Counter-Convention

    Texas Rep. Ron Paul played up his role as Republican Party outcast Tuesday, rallying thousands of supporters of his libertarian-leaning presidential bid at his own counter-convention in Minneapolis — just across the river from the official GOP convention.

    The congressman said he wasn’t trying to launch a splinter party, or commandeer the Republican National Convention, or overhaul the party platform.

    But he said he felt slighted by St. Paul convention planners, who he said gave him “second-class” access and restricted him from bringing his staff to their event. Paul was also denied a speaking slot.

    So while the St. Paul convention kicked back into high gear, after a day of strictly business out of respect for the victims of Hurricane Gustav, Paul and more than 10,000 supporters gathered for his day long “Rally for the Republic” — the capstone of three days of Paul-oriented festivities in the Twin Cities.

    10,000 people are at Ron Paul's convention, and the MSM can't find time to report about it, even though they could hunt down each and every PUMA fraud in Denver and give them air time?

    Wanna bet the republicans insiders in DC are a little worried about this?

    Oh right they have the Sarah Palin fiasco to deal with at the moment.

    It is considered real enough for these people to speak;

    Journalist Tucker Carlson spoke at the kick-off Tuesday. Former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura and Grover Norquist, of Americans for Tax Reform, were also on the speaker’s list.

    Ron Paul got 1,200,000 votes and he isn't allowed the normal privileges at the RNC convention any other republican congressman gets, let alone the speaking privileges of a candidate.

    To compare who they let speak, Fred Thompson only got 286,000 votes in the primary.

    Joe Lieberman got ZERO votes .....

    BTW wanna bet this is why,

    RNC Day 2 Drew 4.3M Fewer Viewers Than DNC

    A much bigger protest against St Johnny of Hanoi in a real counter convention and a much smaller public viewing of the RNC convention, and the MSM wants us all to believe they can still win.

  13. BTW Sarah Palin is FOR censorship and against the fundamental constitutional rights all Americans used to enjoy before the Bush and the extreme right wing republicans cabal came to power.

    John Stein says that as mayor, Palin continued to inject religious beliefs into her policy at times. “She asked the library how she could go about banning books,” he says, because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. “The librarian was aghast.” That woman, Mary Ellen Baker, couldn’t be reached for comment, but news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire Baker for not giving “full support” to the mayor.

    ReplyDelete
  14. BTW she must not have read the RNC McCain campaign daily talking points memo;

    McCain Co-Chair: Palin Coverage Fair, Not Sexist

    Meg Whitman, McCain's national campaign co-chair, veered off message in an interview with Fox, describing the media vetting of Palin as "completely fair" and saying there hasn't been sexism to speak of.

    ReplyDelete
  15. BTW don't tell me the McCain campaign ain't a graspin' at straws with the unqualified Palin pick, cause they read polls also;

    New Polls Have Obama Running Strong In Key States

    A new set of polls has good news for Barack Obama in four key battleground states:

    • In Iowa, which voted narrowly for George W. Bush in 2004, a new CNN poll has Obama ahead of John McCain by a 55%-40% margin.

    • In Minnesota, which went narrowly to Kerry, CNN has Obama up 53%-41%.

    • In Ohio, where President Bush's narrow 2004 win sealed his overall victory, the CNN poll gives Obama a 47%-45% edge, within the ±3.5% margin of error.

    • In North Carolina, which hasn't voted Dem since 1976, a Democracy Corps (D) poll gives John McCain a narrow advantage of 47%-44% -- and gives Democratic Senate challenger Kay Hagan a 50%-45% lead over GOP Senator Elizabeth Dole.

    If Obama's leads in Iowa and Ohio were to hold through November, it would be impossible for John McCain to win unless he could pick up some Kerry states.

    This is why st Johnny of Hanoi is going fur the trailor park vote by picken' Sarah Palin, her family reminds them of their own family, quite dysfunctional ...... it's about the only hope he has left the dysfunctional right wing crowd.

  16. BTW Barack Obama has hit the magical 50% of the electorate mark in both the Gallop and Rasmussen polls.

    Gallop;

    8/30-9/1/08 McCain 42 Obama 50

    Rasmussen;

    8/31-9/2/08 McCain 45 Obama 50

    Barack Obama has sealed the deal with the vast majority of Hillary voters, so McCain has a undeniable task of finding enough independent voters to offset the very real advantage democrats have this year,

    Republicans 33.2%

    Democrats 38.9%

    I don't think he and his extreme right wing christian fundi POA VP pick can do it.

    Not with the more open minded independents.

  18. St Johnny of hanoi's radical pick might be starting to back fire with the voters,

    More on McCain's Strategic Setback

    From some reader ...

    Conveniently, Gallup released new numbers this afternoon that allow us to quantify the divergent trends you've fingered. In the three days following Palin's selection, McCain brought his level of support among Republican women up five points to 90%, and eliminated his nagging gender gap. But that's just within the GOP. Independents and Democrats reacted to Palin's selection by turning to Obama - and his gains have more than offset McCain's, leaving him with a substantial lead.

    Looks like the hurricane the GOP should have been worried about this campaign season is named Sarah.

    In the words of Josh Marshal;

    First, the Democratic base is bigger than the Republican base. The number of self-identifying Democrats is substantially larger that the number of Republican-identifiers.

    Second, contrary to what we might have imagined earlier in the year, Republicans have already been substantially more united behind McCain than Democrats have been behind Obama. I would not have predicted that. But the polls have been extremely consistent on this point.

    In other words, the GOP 'base' was already substantially united behind McCain, subjective measures of intensity notwithstanding. The people who will win the election for McCain are disaffected Democrats and independents. In the context of 2008, a juicing-the-base strategy is a recipe for a respectable defeat, not victory.

    Looks like 2006 all over again.

    ReplyDelete
  19. More damage from hurricane Sarah to the GOP;

    Gallup: For Every Voter Palin Wins Over, Another Jumps To Obama

    A new polling analysis from Gallup suggests that John McCain's selection of Sarah Palin may have helped him solidify his support among Republican women -- but it may have also alienated other voters and made the whole thing a wash for now.

    Gallup's polling finds that McCain support among Republican women has increased from 85% to 90% in the last few days since Palin's selection. But on the other hand, his numbers have gone down among other groups: He's fallen by four points among independent men and three points with indy women, and is down by five points with Democratic men and two points with Dem women. So Palin hasn't really helped him so far.

    "Instead, the data suggest that McCain has in essence fought a rear-guard action of sorts among white women of his own GOP base," the analysis finds, "building their support to a degree even as he was losing support among independents and Democrats of both genders."

    Looks like her pick is starting to look like a right wing talking point that turns off most voters, except it is a real pick and very real voters are turning away from McCain-Palin.

    Hurricane Palin is now at least a category two in destruction for the GOP

  22. The terms "religious fascism" and "Christian fascism" are historically inaccurate oxymorons. Deploying such overused nonsensical terms undermines your prose. Fascism is an ATHEIST creed. Its founding father, Benito Mussolini, was an ATHEIST.

    His buddy, Adolf Hitler, did believe in a God. However, he repudiated Christianity as a hoax perpetrated by the Jews in order to make European men weak and effeminate. However, he did admire Islam, and a lot of Muslims reciprocated his affection by fighting for the Nazis, including Saddam Hussein's relatives in Iraq, and Yasser Arafat's uncle, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, who raised a Muslim SS division comprised of Bosnians and Kosovars.

  23. Sarah Palin seems to be a typical republican;

    Wasilla, whose annual budget of $5 Million is just at John McCain’s income threshold for a single middle-class family, was debt-free when Palin became mayor.

    When she left six years later, the town was over $20 Million in debt despite receiving $27 Million in earmarks.

    Lets see an annual budget of 5 million

    Add an average of 4,5 million each year in earmarks,

    She still loses 20 million in five years.

    Damn she is WORSE then any Washington republican has ever been in budget matters,

    But Bush and the con-republicans did their best.

    BTW .... Somebody needs to tell her, all that money from China isn't an earmark.

  24. Fascism is an ATHEIST creed.

    Sorry Jeff, but you left out the longest serving fascist dictator in Europe, Francisco Franco of Spain, February 5, 1939 – June 9, 1973, was Catholic, and last time I checked they are considered Christians.

    Franco was definitely on the side of Italy and Germany in WW2;

    During the Second World War, Franco maintained a policy of non-beligerency, although he did assist Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy on a small scale against the Soviet Union, most famously by sending troops (known as the Blue Division) to aid Nazi Germany in fighting the Soviet Union.

    So your delusional argument falls well short of being true.

  57. Wanna know something FUNNY;

    The speech was written BEFORE McInsane revealed who his loser VP pick would be;

    Putting Words in Palin’s Mouth

    There was a flutter of attention when McCain campaign manager Rick Davis told a group of Post reporters and editors yesterday that his team was having to rework the vice presidential acceptance speech because the original draft, prepared before Gov. Sarah Palin was chosen, was too “masculine.” While we all wondered to ourselves what might make a speech masculine or feminine, no one batted an eye at the underlying revelation: that the campaign was writing the nominee’s speech before knowing who the nominee would be.

    So we got THEIR version of her again.

  61. BTW here are three out right falsehoods in Sarah Palin's speech;

    I suspended the state fuel tax, and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress.

    McCain had criticized earmarks from Palin

    Three times in recent years, the Arizona senator's lists of 'objectionable' pork spending have included earmarks requested by his new running mate..

    It would help if her running mate hadn't been against the earmarks she was for.

    I told the Congress “thanks, but no thanks,” for that Bridge to Nowhere.

    Palin "bridge to nowhere" line angers many Alaskans

    It garnered big applause in her first speech as Republican John McCain's vice presidential pick, but Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's assertion that she rejected Congressional funds for the so-called "bridge to nowhere" has upset many Alaskans.

    During her first speech after being named as McCain's surprise pick as a running mate, Palin said she had told Congress "'thanks but no thanks' on that bridge to nowhere."

    In the city Ketchikan, the planned site of the so-called "Bridge to Nowhere," political leaders of both parties said the claim was false and a betrayal of their community, because she had supported the bridge and the earmark for it secured by Alaska's Congressional delegation during her run for governor.

    Seems she is as clueless about how the tubes retain history, even if the GOP spin machine tries to erase it.

    If our state wanted a bridge, we’d build it ourselves. When oil and gas prices went up dramatically, and filled up the state treasury, I sent a large share of that revenue back where it belonged - directly to the people of Alaska.

    In Alaska, Everyone's An Oil Baron

    She was more about making sure the dividend check from the Alaskan fund is bigger to help her approval rating, then hurting the oil corps her hubby works for.

    So much for truth from her eh?

  69. Sorry Clif, but your shallow "analysis" of modern European history is the only diatribe riddled with delusion and ignorance of the truth. Franco was a right-wing dictator, but he was NOT a "fascist." The word "Fascist" is nothing more than the name of the political party established in Italy by Mussolini. Using "fascist" as a generic term for anyone with politics to the right of Ted Kennedy is like using the term "Stalinist" as a word for all leftists.

    Franco allowed Spanish volunteers to participate in the USSR because he was anti-Communist and because the USSR had aided his enemies during the Spanish Civil War. Considering the fact that Stalin's body count was much higher than Hitler's, it's kind of difficult to get too outraged at this gesture. A lot of Lithuanians, Latvians, Estonians, Finns, Georgians, and other nationalities also fought alongside the Germans in the USSR simply because they hated Stalin, for good reason.

    Franco refused to join the Axis Powers and balked at Hitler's request to utilize Spanish ports for German warships. Franco also refused to participate in the Holocaust and even granted asylum for Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi persecution in France. Spanish aloofness toward the Third Reich eventually led the Nazis to repudiate Franco for his "treacherous" behavior. The Allies never invaded Spain because they realized a fact that you seem unable to grasp: Spain was a NEUTRAL country during WWII.

    Jeff, Merriam Webster on line dictionary would disagree with ya son.:

    a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition

    By that definition Franco WAS a fascist.

I would agree that after the defeat of Italy and Germany in WW2 Franco moved away from the roots of his movement which was fascist in the Spanish Civil War, to something which still has fascist leanings but was more palatable in the post war world .... but he started out fighting for the fascist cause helped by the other two fascist countries of the 1930's

    ReplyDelete
  73. Well the republicans are having a little problem in Minneapolis finding the truth as usual;

    here are some examples.

    PALIN: "I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending ... and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress 'thanks but no thanks' for that Bridge to Nowhere."

    THE FACTS: As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a "bridge to nowhere."

    PALIN: "There is much to like and admire about our opponent. But listening to him speak, it's easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform — not even in the state senate."

    THE FACTS: Compared to McCain and his two decades in the Senate, Obama does have a more meager record. But he has worked with Republicans to pass legislation that expanded efforts to intercept illegal shipments of weapons of mass destruction and to help destroy conventional weapons stockpiles. The legislation became law last year. To demean that accomplishment would be to also demean the work of Republican Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana, a respected foreign policy voice in the Senate. In Illinois, he was the leader on two big, contentious measures in Illinois: studying racial profiling by police and requiring recordings of interrogations in potential death penalty cases. He also successfully co-sponsored major ethics reform legislation.

    PALIN: "The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes, raise payroll taxes, raise investment income taxes, raise the death tax, raise business taxes, and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars."

    THE FACTS: The Tax Policy Center, a think tank run jointly by the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, concluded that Obama's plan would increase after-tax income for middle-income taxpayers by about 5 percent by 2012, or nearly $2,200 annually. McCain's plan, which cuts taxes across all income levels, would raise after tax-income for middle-income taxpayers by 3 percent, the center concluded.

    Obama would provide $80 billion in tax breaks, mainly for poor workers and the elderly, including tripling the Earned Income Tax Credit for minimum-wage workers and higher credits for larger families.

    He also would raise income taxes, capital gains and dividend taxes on the wealthiest. He would raise payroll taxes on taxpayers with incomes above $250,000, and he would raise corporate taxes. Small businesses that make more than $250,000 a year would see taxes rise.

    MCCAIN: "She's been governor of our largest state, in charge of 20 percent of America's energy supply ... She's responsible for 20 percent of the nation's energy supply. I'm entertained by the comparison and I hope we can keep making that comparison that running a political campaign is somehow comparable to being the executive of the largest state in America," he said in an interview with ABC News' Charles Gibson.

    THE FACTS: McCain's phrasing exaggerates both claims. Palin is governor of a state that ranks second nationally in crude oil production, but she's no more "responsible" for that resource than President Bush was when he was governor of Texas, another oil-producing state. In fact, her primary power is the ability to tax oil, which she did in concert with the Alaska Legislature. And where Alaska is the largest state in America, McCain could as easily have called it the 47th largest state — by population.

    MCCAIN: "She's the commander of the Alaska National Guard. ... She has been in charge, and she has had national security as one of her primary responsibilities," he said on ABC.

    THE FACTS: While governors are in charge of their state guard units, that authority ends whenever those units are called to actual military service. When guard units are deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan, for example, they assume those duties under "federal status," which means they report to the Defense Department, not their governors. Alaska's national guard units have a total of about 4,200 personnel, among the smallest of state guard organizations.

    FORMER ARKANSAS GOV. MIKE HUCKABEE: Palin "got more votes running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska than Joe Biden got running for president of the United States."

    THE FACTS: A whopper. Palin got 616 votes in the 1996 mayor's election, and got 909 in her 1999 re-election race, for a total of 1,525. Biden dropped out of the race after the Iowa caucuses, but he still got 76,165 votes in 23 states and the District of Columbia where he was on the ballot during the 2008 presidential primaries.

    FORMER MASSACHUSETTS GOV. MITT ROMNEY: "We need change, all right — change from a liberal Washington to a conservative Washington! We have a prescription for every American who wants change in Washington — throw out the big-government liberals, and elect John McCain and Sarah Palin."

    THE FACTS: A Back-to-the-Future moment. George W. Bush, a conservative Republican, has been president for nearly eight years. And until last year, Republicans controlled Congress. Only since January 2007 have Democrats have been in charge of the House and Senate.

    Seems lies distortion and right wing spin is still their stock in trade.

    Really? Lets see what a few conservatives REALLY think about her, when they THINK the microphone is turned off.

    Here's a conversation caught on camera, when Mike Murphy, Peggy Noonan and Chuck Todd all thought the camera was off, while discussing the Palin nomination.

    MM: Yeah.

    From the Guardian UK.

    Obama might pursue criminal charges against Bush administration· Biden says criminal violations will be pursued

    Vice-presidential nominee Joe Biden said earlier this week that he and running mate Barack Obama could pursue criminal charges against the Bush administration if they are elected in November.

    Biden’s comments, first reported by ABC news, attracted little notice on a day dominated by the drama surrounding his Republican counterpart, Alaska governor Sarah Palin.

    But his statements represent the Democrats’ strongest vow so far this year to investigate alleged misdeeds committed during the Bush years.

    When asked during a campaign event in Deerfield Beach, Florida, whether he would “pursue the violations that have been made against our Constitution by the present administration”, Biden answered in the affirmative.

    “We will not be stopped from pursuing any criminal offence that’s occurred,” he continued, going on to praise congressional committees for the deliberate pace of their inquiries into alleged Bush administration misdeeds.

    Members of Congress are “doing the right thing, they’re not making false accusations about anything … they’re collecting data, subpoenaing records, they’re building a file”, Biden said.

    “If there has been a basis upon which you can pursue someone for a criminal violation, they will be pursued – not out of vengeance, not out of retribution, out of the need to preserve the notion that no one, no attorney general, no president — no one is above the law

    She lies with no regret (at the moment) about earmarks, the bridge to nowhere, cutting taxes and it looks like troopergate among the brewing scandals she is under in Alaska.

    One freakin speech and freedum fraud spends the max?

    Damn he's a real good accountant comin' from him you'd a thunk Sarah Palin had replaced St Johnny of Hanoi at the top of the soon to lose GOPer ticket.

    Fivethirtyeight.com has the election outcome at 310 electoral votes for Obama and 248 electoral votes for McCain.

    538's close states are;

    Leans slightly Obama;

    Colorado, 2 points to Obama, Ohio 1.3 points to Obama, Virginia 1.9 points to Obama.

    Leans slightly McCain;

    Montana 1.6 points to McCain, North Carolina 2.3 points to McCain, Florida 1.6 points to McCain.

    Nevada is seen as evenly split at the moment.

    Interestingly all states Bush won, so McCain is defending republican wins, Obama has all Kerry and Gore states solidly in his column,

    Pollster.com has it at Obama 260 electoral votes, McCain 179 electoral votes with 99 remaining to be split.

    Pollsters states are;

    Nevada, Montana, North Dakota, Colorado, Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia, Florida, and New Hampshire, all bush states in 2000 and 2004 with the exception of New Hampshire which went for Gore

    In both polls McCain is behind, and defending states Bush won, and Obama has made serious inroads in many of them, see 538 to see where.

    Sarah Palin ain't really gonna change much, however in 2016 when the next open election is fought, it will be interesting to see if she even registers at all, after this year and her scandals plays out. Remember in 2004 the nominal front runners were McCain, Santarum, Allen and possibly Frist. Four short years later three of them didn't even try.

    Rasmussen has the race Obama 50% McCain 45%, and Gallop has the race Obama 49% McCain 42%, 6 days AFTER the Palin pick was rolled out so there is NO Palin bump at all, however their might be a slight convention bump.

    What is most noticeable is McCain already had about 90% of the republican party behind him while until after the convention Obama didn't break 80% of the democratic party support. The Hillary voters didn't seal the deal for the most part till after Obama's historic speech. they have moved for the most part behind Obama and that is why Obama's numbers are rising.

    This fall the right wing is playing defense, and losing it seems at it.

    Election night watch Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina and Florida.

    If McCain wins all four like bush did both times, he will be OK, however one win by Obama and McCain has problems, and two wins and the election is OVER because losing two of the four means McCain can't find a way to win in the 2008 cycle.

    I predict Obama will win at least two.

    This year will be interesting, but McCain is fighting the bush legacy, lingering corruption by the Washington republican insiders, a bad economy for the middle class, and higher fuel prices, that the normal right wing meme is being undercut by T Boone Pickens which means they won't be able to get traction from it.

    If the vote comes down to who has more experience in energy, Sarah Palin loses to T Boone every time, and worse then McCain and her are going to lose to Obama-Biden.

    2008 is an anti-republican election cycle, and a political neophyte from Alaska ain't gonna buck that trend, especially with the looming scandals and questionable stands she claims in deference to what is being revealed about her real history .....

    ReplyDelete
  89. BTW Jack Abramoff got 4 years for his corruption charges.

    Maybe Clueless Georgie will pardon him.

  90. This ain't gonna help sell St Sarah as a reformer on St Johnny's ticket;

    Bull

    As you know, despite earlier promises to the contrary, Sarah Palin is now refusing to cooperate with the trooper-gate investigation. Her lawyer now says she will refuse to be deposed unless the head of the current investigation relinquishes control and hands the investigation over to the state Personnel Board made up of three of Gov. Palin's appointees. We've been trying to see whether Palin's argument has any merit under Alaska law. And the former Alaska Attorney General we just spoke to told us, in essence, that it's a bunch of bunk.

    Not surprising, since the whole gambit is an effort to push any depositions out past the election.

    With all the stonewalling of Bushco Criminal inc. in Washington, this won't play well especially if middle class America starts to see her as just another extension of the republicans who break the law and demand they are above it.

    With eight weeks to get the news she is going back on her word and trying every trick in the bag to hide her criminal activities, she could quickly turn to Mud for St Johnny while he is trying to get traction in this shortened cycle.

  91. And the biggest unintended effect that the Sarah Palin pick might have is that Hillary has something to defend her supporters, and she don't want them switching to a political lightweight from Alaska with a questionable background, so Hillary might become a bigger player in this cycle to keep her hard won supporters behind her for her future plans, and if Hillary feels threatened watch out the BIG DOG will come out with a strong defense of her, and Obama by extension painting Palin and NOT a true Bubba like he is.

    Palin could be what it takes to make the Clintons realize they have a very real stake in THIS election.

    In that way it could backfire on St Johnny real bad.

    Because only Obama has ever beat the Clinton machine ... republicans seems not to be able to do that.

  92. BTW drunk on the kool aid wing nuts aside quite a few independent voters in focus grouops really weren't impressed last night;

    Thumbs Down

    I'm certainly not saying this will be the across the board response. And self-identified Republicans loved Palin's speech. But a focus group of Michigan independents did not like it.

    Late Update: Focus groups of female undecideds in Nevada didn't seem to like it either.

    Doesn't bode well if the non kool aid drinkers weren't all that impressed .....

    ReplyDelete
  93. BTW the democrats are smart with their rolling out Women Democratic governors to criticize the light weight Gov of Alaska and her acting performance in last night's speech.

  95. Things are heating up in parts of Alaska.

    No not global warming again;

    It's TROOPERGATE part deux;

    New Complaint Against Palin on Trooper-Gate

    Sarah Palin could be facing another investigation in relation to Trooper-Gate.

    NBC News reports that the police officer's union of Alaska has filed an ethics complaint on behalf of Mike Wooten, the trooper who was embroiled in a dispute with the Palin family, and who the governor is alleged to have attempted to have fired.

    According to NBC News:

    The complaint alleges that the governor or her staff may have have improperly disclosed information from Wooten's personnel records. The complaint alleges "criminal penalties may apply."

    The union argues that recordings of a phone conversation involving Palin-aide Frank Bailey -- released last month as part of the Attorney General's own Trooper-Gate probe -- suggested that Wooten's records were accessed improperly.

    Now Sarah Palin can try the republican version of executive privilege to try to keep the citizens of her state from getting their day in court that Bush-Cheney have used so much of in the last 7 1/2 years.

    She is turning out to be a regular right wing hypocrite republican more and more each day.

  96. Looks like another lie form last night exposed;

    GOP Convention: Palin Sold Alaska Jet at a Loss, and Not on eBay

    EBay got a huge plug last night when, trying to depict herself as a tight-fisted reformer, GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin said she put a state jet on eBay.

    But the Westwind II jet never sold on eBay.

    According to PolitiFact, the plane, bought by her Republican predecessor whom she beat in 2006, was listed for sale three times on the San Jose internet auction giant. But no one ever met the minimum bid. The plane was listed with an asking price of $2.5 million in 2007. The state had paid just under $2.7 million for it in 2005.

    Finally, the state turned to an aircraft broker, who sold the jet to an Alaskan businessman for $2.1 million.

    Seems half her biggest cheers were for lies she told.

  97. Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius seems to disagree with St Sarah's speech;

    "I live in the American heartland, and have been a governor [here] for six years," she said. "I don't know any mayor in any small town in Kansas -- and we have a lot of mayors of small towns -- who hires a lobbyist and goes after earmarks the way Sarah Palin did."

    On Tuesday, the Washington Post reported that, as mayor of Wasilla, Palin secured more than $27 million in federal earmarks for a town with only 6,700 residents.

    Truth-o-cution part 37.

  98. I did'nt get a chance to watch much of the democratic convention last week so perhaps someone who did could answer my question.
    Did John Edwards make a speech last week?I know Kerry was on the adgenda but I was wondering what the 2004 VP candidate had to say if he did speak.Did he talk about the two americas?Did he mention the number of vets who are homeless?Did he say how proud he was of his wife and her fight with cancer?I must have missed his speech.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Absolutely BEST quote about St Sarah's speech;

    Jesus Christ was a community organizer... Pontius Pilate was a governor.

    ReplyDelete
  100. No crusty John Edwards didn't speak to the convention just like Tom Delay, George Allen, Ricky Santarum, Bill Frist, Dick Cheney didn't speak to the republican convention.

    BTW liar isn't Dick Cheney the SITTING VP not the losing candidate.

    Him not appearing seems a little bigger then John Edwards NOT appearing.

  101. Fascism?: "a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition": That definition is sooo vague, it could apply to almost any despot who has ever appeared in history, including all those great leftist heroes, Lenin, Stalin, Mao Zedong, Pol Pot, Castro, Hugo Chavez, etc. It just goes to show that dictionary editors are not necessarily thoughtful historical scholars.

    I prefer to heed the observations offered by that notorious right-wing ideologue, George Orwell: "The word ‘Fascism’ is almost entirely meaningless. In conversation, of course, it is used even more wildly than in print. I have heard it applied to farmers, shopkeepers, Social Credit, corporal punishment, fox-hunting, bull-fighting, the 1922 Committee, the 1941 Committee, Kipling, Gandhi, Chiang Kai-Shek, homosexuality, Priestley's broadcasts, Youth Hostels, astrology, women, dogs and I do not know what else... almost any English person would accept ‘bully’ as a synonym for ‘Fascist’."

    When Stalin and Trotsky fell out after Lenin's death, they both called each other "fascist," so which one was correct? Both? Neither? Same deal when the Kremlin was at loggerheads with Red China in the early 1960s, when the two Communist regimes compared each other to Hitler.

    And behold the insight of one of the most distinguished experts in modern Spanish history, Dr. Stanley G. Payne, whose books in the 1960s were BANNED by Franco, indicating that this guy was not exactly a right-wing stooge: "scarcely any of the serious historians and analysts of Franco consider the generalissimo to be a core fascist." Franco's rightist coalition that he had established in the 1930s did include the Falangists, which shared many characteristics with Mussolini's Fascist Party, but that was but one faction among others that also included monarchists and other Spaniards who simply did not like Communists and anarchists.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Jeff, we can play dueling experts all you want, BUT Franco was seen as a fascist at the time, and sided with the other fasict regimes of Europe at the time UNTIL he realized they would lose.

    He wanted to take Gibraltar himself until he realized that would open the canary islands to British attack and he had NO way to defend them.

    Franco was a surviver first and ally second.
