Here is a hilarious article from Huffington Post
Bob Cesca: Iraq Is Not Delightful, Mr. President

After last weekend's 60 Minutes interview, I thought perhaps someone somewhere in Washington would inform our chief executive that grinning like a mental patient might not be the best way to express concern over the violence in Iraq. And if someone did in fact mention it to him, he didn't listen. Or he forgot. On PBS's NewsHour, he was doing it again. A lot. But unlike the sly, giggly grinning before, the NewsHour expressions more closely resemble a man who just finished watching a litter of puppies being fed ice cream by floating babies dressed in sunflower costumes.

We have visitors from all over the world reading this blog now.

Lydia's site gets hundreds of hits a day from all over the world, and I for one am glad that the international community can see that the inbred right wing mentality does not permeate our culture.

For example, most of these visitors are coming from countries who have already acknowledged and taken steps to curb global warming.

Here in the US, the many are held down by the few, who substitute religion and party lines for science.

But the many are starting to push aside the few, and trampling their ignorance in the process.

  2. I predict that once we get a democratic president and congress, we will see legislation to end our addiction to oil and help prevent global warming just as we did with Jimmy Carter.

Government needs to provide the motivation and incentives for corporations to offer alternate more environmentally friendly forms of energy and for consumers to adapt these new technologies and neither will occur with the Bush Administration in the white house.

  5. Well .. well .. well;

Ex-Rice speechwriter: She doesn't have 'vaguest notion' of Middle East history

An ex-State Department speechwriter today told the Wall Street Journal that his former boss Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice lacked a clear understanding of modern Middle Eastern history.

The article by Neil King, Jr. takes up the tendency of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to analogize current US policy in the Middle East with America's experience during the Cold War.

"When Ms. Rice talks about the challenges the U.S. faces across the Mideast, she points, somewhat surprisingly, to Europe after World War II and to the West's decades-long face-off against the Soviet Union, which happens to be her area of expertise," King writes. During a recent trip to the Middle East, the Secretary of State "engaged in several long historical tutorials with reporters in tow."

Rice's tendency to apply Cold War lessons to the Middle East has been criticized, even by a former speechwriter, as resulting from a "limited frame of reference," according to King.

Adam Garfinkle, a foreign policy journal editor who still has a bio listed on the State Department's website from his time as a speechwriter, says that "The administration's reservoir of historical analogies seems limited to the 1914-1991 period. And it's all about Europe."

Garfinkle added, "No one in a senior position in this administration seems to have even the vaguest notion of modern Middle Eastern history."

  6. Hey, Lydia!

I posted dueling Stephen Colberts at my blog...

Worf, you can't possibly know how many hits Lydia's blog gets from around the world. I infer she's been getting a lot from the way she's been naming countries.

For our foreign guests, yes, reasonable rational people do exist in this country, and one day, we will wrest the dialogue and wrench this nation back on the road it was headed down, to live in peace with the world.

We are the bodhisattvas, the peace-lovers, the enlightened ones.

  7. Cheney blew off Iran in 2003

For the Love of God Impeach this Man

Lawrence Wilkerson, an aide to Colin Powell when he was secretary of state says that Iran in 2003 offered to help stabilize Iraq and to cut off aid to Hizbullah in Lebanon and to Hamas. Wilkerson says that the State Department was interested in pursuing the offer, which presumably came from reformist president Mohammad Khatami. He says that when the issue was broached with VP Richard Bruce Cheney, Cheney shot down any notion of "talking to evil." As if Mohammad Khatami is evil and Richard Bruce Cheney is not. (Cheney's lies about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction and connection to 9/11 have gotten hundreds of thousands of people killed).

Because Khatami kept promising that his reforms would make Iranians better off, and because the US rejected all his overtures and left him with no achievements to show for them, the Iranian electorate turned against the reform movement and put Mahmud Ahmadinejad into power, a loud-mouthed braggart of a sort that Cheney's Likudniks could then build up into a bogey man to frighten Americans with. Cheney created Iran as a menace.

What this article doesn't mention is that the rightwing Likud cabal in Cheney's office, such as Irv Lewis Libby, with its connections to the Israeli far right, almost certainly played a key role in this rejection. I think John Hannah was already there then, too. David Wurmser came later, after getting up the fraudulent case against Iraq in the Pentagon "Office of Special Plans" (i.e. foreign policy plumbers) set up by Likudnik Douglas Feith, then the number 3 man in the Pentagon.

Libby is now on trial for lying to the special prosecutor about his role in betraying CIA operative Valerie Plame Wilson. Wilson had been working on anti-proliferation efforts versus . . . Iran. She was outed to punish her husband for publicly challenging Cheney's lies about WMD in Iraq.

Cheney is the most fascistic high official in US government in history. He recently implied that al-Qaeda is glad that the Democrats won the mid-term elections, as his way of trying to create the impression that anyone who disagrees with him is a terrorist-loving traitor. But it is Cheney who is the traitor, with his office having betrayed Valerie to the Iranians (and everyone else in the world).

Fascism depends on the creation of straw man enemies said to be dire threats to the Homeland. Iran is a poor weak third world country and poses no threat to the US. It hasn't aggressively invaded another country for over a century. But Cheney needs Iran to substitute for the old Soviet Union, otherwise how could he get you to agree to let him listen in on your telephone calls without a warrant, or let him torture people?

Cheney is the much bigger threat to the integrity of the US constitution than any foreign force. He should be impeached. If lying about a tawdry affair that did not even get to third base is grounds for impeachment, then lying us into a war, slapping Iran's overtures away and setting the stage for another war, and outing a CIA operative certainly are.

At least let us investigate the extent of his crimes

  12. Former GOP Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee depleted the governor’s office emergency fund in the final weeks of his administration in part to pay for the destruction of computer hard drives in his office.

That left Gov. Mike Beebe, who replaced Huckabee on Jan. 9, with no emergency funds for the last half of fiscal 2007.

Documents that the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, describe the destruction of the computer drives, as ordered by Huckabee’s office, and Huckabee complaining strongly about his cell phone and Blackberry not working.

A memo dated Jan. 9 from a state Department of Information Systems official to Huckabee told of the “disposition of data maintained” by the department “for the office of the governor” during Huckabee’s tenure.

“All drives have been subsequently crushed under the supervision of a designee of your office,” wrote Gary Underwood, the agency’s chief technology officer and a former Huckabee staff member.

    (snip)

Department of Information Systems Director Claire Bailey said hard drives for 83 computers and four servers were destroyed, or “crushed,” after information was downloaded onto backup tapes. Underwood supervised it and delivered the backup tapes to Huckabee Chief of Staff Brenda Turner, who had ordered the hard drives crushed, Bailey said.

She said the computers were located in the state Capitol; the state’s Washington, D. C., office; the state police airport hangar; the Governor’s Mansion; and the Arkansas State Police drug office.

In 2003, Huckabee announced that after he left office, his official gubernatorial papers would be stored at his alma mater, Ouachita Baptist University, a private institution in Arkadelphia. He said at the time that the college would decide which documents would be released to the public.

Now, why did a Republican have to destroy hard drives with records of his administration as governor. Doesn't that information belong to the citizens of Arkansas? Guess not, if you are a Soviet-Style Republican.

They went after Bill Clinton with a vengeance, but act like cowards when they lose. I wonder why Dick Cheney had a truck from a document shredding company at his official residence right before last Novembers loss?

After analyzing both your definition of Conservative and your definition of Fascism it becomes painfully obvious that you and the Bush administration you blindly support clearly resemble the definition of Fascism, it fits you like a glove sir.

The neo cons quite clearly preach nationalism and exalt nation and race over the individual, they malign all Muslims, they discount individual rights and freedoms, they tout a powerful centralized autocratic government headed by an aspiring dictatatorial leader, they support severe economic and social regimentation, and forceable suppression of opposition.

We've seen the forceable suppression of opposition right here on this blog, but the examples are manifold, from Ms Sheehan being arrested for exercising her freedom of speech, to Americans being imprisoned without cause and denied Habeous Corpus , to poor sods the president is not too fond of being put on the do not fly list or generals being smeared , discredited and forced to resign for disagreeing with the neo con esablishment.

    Mr. Purves,

A "liberal" in political lingo, according to the dictionary is a person who believes in freedom, equal rights for all races and sexes, and liberty for the individual. They are progressive thinkers. People who are liberal are less fearful and more advanced thinkers. They see the best in others, and trust God more. Conservatives like to conserve their own wealth and stick to old ideas in order to feel safe. They are more fearful and don't trust in God but say they do.

  53. This is a good explanation of what liberals do for everyone, including.. Joe Republican;

Day in the Life of Joe Middle-Class Republican

Joe gets up at 6:00am to prepare his morning coffee. He fills his pot full of good clean drinking water because some liberal fought for minimum water quality standards. He takes his daily medication with his first swallow of coffee. His medications are safe to take because some liberal fought to insure their safety and work as advertised.

All but $10.00 of his medications are paid for by his employers medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance, now Joe gets it too. He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs this day. Joe’s bacon is safe to eat because some liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.

Joe takes his morning shower reaching for his shampoo; His bottle is properly labeled with every ingredient and the amount of its contents because some liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained. Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some tree hugging liberal fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air. He walks to the subway station for his government subsidized ride to work; it saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees. You see, some liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.

Joe begins his work day; he has a good job with excellent pay, medicals benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe’s employer pays these standards because Joe’s employer doesn’t want his employees to call the union. If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed he’ll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some liberal didn’t think he should loose his home because of his temporary misfortune.

Its noon time, Joe needs to make a Bank Deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe’s deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some liberal wanted to protect Joe’s money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the depression.

Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae underwritten Mortgage and his below market federal student loan because some stupid liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his life-time.

Joe is home from work, he plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive to dads; his car is among the safest in the world because some liberal fought for car safety standards. He arrives at his boyhood home. He was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers Home Administration because bankers didn’t want to make rural loans. The house didn’t have electric until some big government liberal stuck his nose where it didn’t belong and demanded rural electrification. (Those rural Republican’s would still be sitting in the dark)

He is happy to see his dad who is now retired. His dad lives on Social Security and his union pension because some liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn’t have to. After his visit with dad he gets back in his car for the ride home.
He turns on a radio talk show, the host’s keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. (He doesn’t tell Joe that his beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day) Joe agrees, “We don’t need those big government liberals ruining our lives; after all, I’m a self made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have”.

  85. Larry like all other things the delusional reichwing claims ..in their fantasy, like a school yard bully, Bush thinks he can whip all the other kids at the same time, but if he tries he will learn the same lesson every school yard bully has learned .... they can't do it.

    ReplyDelete
  86. How many bloody noses does the creature have to get before he takes his toys back to daddy?

    ReplyDelete
  87. I dont think he's trying to whip them Larry, I think he feels escalation is his only option, he feels if he can escalate the war it will take the heat off of him and he can wait out his term and blame the next president for surrendering and giving up, thats all he has left at this point as pathetic as that is, he doesnt care how many more people die, its all about his ego and pride right now,

As for China and Russia, he doesnt think much about them just like he doesnt think much about Osama, he thinks everyone should either fear or obey him, in his narrow imature mind the entire world revolves around his wants and desires and everyone is merely pawns to him.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Bush isn't the one getting all bloody and that is why he keeps sending others into the fight.

    ReplyDelete
  89. He NEEDS to be impeached!

    ReplyDelete
  90. Like all gutless little reichwingers Bush is NOT fighting, he has others doing it for him, just like he had somebody take HIS place in Vietnam.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Why doesn't Bush run his little girls lives like he is trying to do everyone in the country.

The sliphead will start a world war and the call up WWII vets, because he has nobody left.

    ReplyDelete
  92. If Bush had to fight himself the delusion is over, and he can't allow that, thus he is upping the ante to force more people to side with him, no matter what it costs THEM.

He is safe inside his secret service bubble.

It is the troops on the front lines with NO secret service protective detail that have to cover his bet.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Can you imagine Bush's memoirs after he gets run out of office.

It will be filled with cartoon figures engaged in war.

    ReplyDelete
  94. We just had a retired Captain here in Kentucky re join the service 20 years after he retired when he retired from the service they did not even have computers in use. That is HOW desperate they are getting.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Most presidents write books, speak and sit on the boards of major corporations, who would want this president, he will be in demand no where, no one will want to hear ANYTHING he has to say.

Like usual daddy will bail out his little screw up and find a job for the incompetent little Georgie.

    ReplyDelete
  96. If they are allowing 60 year old retired captains to return to service, people who last served when Reagan was President, we have a problem even with out a war with Iran.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Look at all the Veterans hospitals they have closed and the benefits they have cut.

They can put two trillion into a swamp, but can't afford computers.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Mike:

Bush will probably sit on the Board of Directors for Haliburton and Exon.

They certainly made enough money from him.

    ReplyDelete
  99. That and Carlyle, Lockheed-Martin, Bush has made both of those companies a bundle.

    ReplyDelete
  100. They are forcing people back into active duty and into Iraq who have been out of the reserves for some time.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Larry he was NOT forced, but you do not need 60 year old captains who know very little about how the 21st century army operates, since he has never used a single modern military computer of multi task radio.

Hell it will take then a year to train him up and he can only serve for about 4 unless they raise the forced retirement age, which I would not put past them.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Are they sending him to Iraq? I am surprised they would let him back in.

He will have a hard time.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Nah Larry, you know how repugs are, there's no lohonor among thieves or loyalty, its all what can you do for ME now, look how they could care less about the veterans once they are no longer useful or able to fight their wars, they become a liability, those companies will have no more use for Bush, they will see him for the incompetent discredited fool he is.

Maybe dasddy will get a job for him at Carlyle, but thats about all I can see.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Larry they are no longer enforcing weigh regulations, nor does failure to pass the PT test get you disqualified for re-enlistment. they are changing the rules to keep numbers instead of quality.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Sounds like anyone could get in since enlistment is down.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Mike:

Lets hope Bush and Condi ride off into the sunset so we won't have to see either of them again.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Just about Larry, gang bangers, felons, drug abusers, they are accepting just about anybody.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Why would anyone want to join? You get a quick training, sent to Iraq for tour after tour and if you make it home, it is for two weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Hi I am inquiring about this political discussion from another country. What does it mean to be a liberal?
    -Mr. Purves

    Conservative v. Liberal World Views

    ReplyDelete
  110. It looks like Gates is anothe shill or stooge trying to buy time foe GWB, these guys are so corrupt we need to clean house.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Larry there are people desperate enough even at this point they will join. and recruiters will tell them that truck drivers or like Marcus said artillery do not get into combat, but once your in uniform, there is a little known section of the contract you sign which basically says the Military can send you where they need for the good of the military, and at that point your in Iraq and not really left open to any option.

People sign up for guarantees not to be sent but get reassigned or attached to a deploying unit any ways. Once your there you can't abandon your fellow soldiers, your with them all the way. That is why so many are willing to return, because they know if they don't go somebody else will go in their place, and very few real honest people are willing to pull a chicken hawk move like that.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Why else would Gates be there if he wasn't joining the choir?

    ReplyDelete
  113. How many get the college education they are promised?

    ReplyDelete
  114. But Gutless punks like GAYDALF hid.

    ReplyDelete
  115. And still hiding.

  116. I hope Congress doesnt fall for Alberto Eichman;s ruse, we need Congressional oversight over Bush's illegal warrantless spy program, Bush should not be able to spy on normal Amrericans or who ever he chooses without a warrant.

This program is an illegal violation of the Constitution, and it Sickens me they just tried to go around Congress and rubberstamp the program AGAIN, if Bush and Gonzalez are spying on regular Americans illegally which clearly they are they NEED to be imeached and/or removed from office.

    ReplyDelete

They think with their widdle games and sock puppets attacks they can scare us away? Damn are they stupid.

  128. GI Jane said:

This is a good explanation of what liberals do for everyone, including.. Joe Republican…
Joe fills … his pot full of good clean drinking water because some liberal fought for minimum water quality standards

otherwise undoubtedly the drinking water would be lethal poison which the reptilian Republicans actually prefer.

His medications are safe to take because some liberal fought to insure their safety and work as advertised.

Otherwise Joe would not be able to determine for himself whether the drugs worked. Apparently the eevil drug companies would determine that it was in their best business interests to sell worthless and dangerous drugs resulting in class action lawsuits and devastating publicity. Of course during the 12-15 year average time which the FDA delays the delivery of new drugs (just to be really, really sure that they work), many thousands of people get sick and die because they are denied life-saving drugs.

All but $10.00 of his medications are paid for by his employers medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance, now Joe gets it too.

Of course Joe still pays for the drugs indirectly, but the union bosses also get a cut along the way.

He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs this day. Joe’s bacon is safe to eat because some liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.

Otherwise the eevil meat packing corporations would be selling mad cow meat and pollo loco which Conservatives crave, if it weren't for the government forcing them to sell only good stuff.

Joe takes his morning shower reaching for his shampoo; His bottle is properly labeled with every ingredient and the amount of its contents because some liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained.

Although Joe is an adult, he is treated like a helpless child by the government. Even the act of taking a shower presumably would be a risky proposition without the government there to protect Joe. Apparently many people were injured by dangerous shampoo before the government required all these labels which no one ever reads.

The air he breathes is clean because some tree hugging liberal fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air.

Which is lucky, because otherwise eevil corporations would pollute like crazy because Conservatives prefer filthy air.

He walks to the subway station for his government subsidized ride to work; it saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees. You see, some liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.

Of course Joe still must pay for his subway ride indirectly --there is no free ride. But because the government was involved, the price of providing the transportation is much more costly. For example, in Los Angeles, riders only pay about 10% of the operating cost of their mass transit ride, and make no contribution toward the construction costs. So almost all of the vast cost of the transportation came out of the general fund paid by taxpayers, not the riders themselves who directly benefit.

Interesting isn’t it though that the non-union employers, which comprise 90% of the private sector, also have good wage and benefit packages. These employers pay lucrative wages to attract and keep talented workers, not because they are “afraid of a call from a union thug”. Unions, riddled with organized crime, extort employers to pay more than what the labor may be worth, destroying jobs, driving employers overseas and costing taxpayers millions. For example, thanks to the Davis-Bacon act, consumer advocate John Stossel demonstrated that a flag-waver gets $22 per hour instead of the $12 he normally earns on a construction project. The taxpayer picks up the tab for the inflated wages.

His dad lives on Social Security and his union pension because some liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn’t have to.

However if Joe had invested his own money in equities which earn about 8% per year historically, instead of being forced to pay 15.3% of his earnings into Social Security which is invested in government bonds at about 2%, Joe would have about 6-8 times as much money on which to retire. Progressive-thinking Liberals have viciously fought any attempt to allow individuals to control even a tiny portion of their FICA contributions in a private, self-directed fund. Any attempt to change Social Security, which is on track to be bankrupt in 9 years, is vilified by Liberals who charge that the Conservatives are trying to steal money from old folks (who would not be affected by the change).

[Joe] turns on a radio talk show, the host’s keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good.

The radio talk show host is smart; Joe should listen. Most talk show hosts are Conservative with good reason.

Well someone hacked into my google account, whether someone who works at google or some hacker is being looked into now.

Either way they can hack all they want but they won't stop this blog.

Not as long as there is air in my lungs and blood in my veins.

But what it shows is the corruption of the right wing. They are foul, wicked criminals. Black hat hackers are the foulest form of scum on the planet. They think they're elite, but they're not.

    Think about it.

Its hard to keep a theif out of your house. You can put up alarms, buy a guard dog, etc, but if he really wants to get in, its not to hard to get around whatever measures you take. If someone wants in bad enough, they can probably get in.

Same with a website, like this blog. Its not that they're so good or Google is so bad. Its that they are exploiting weaknesses somehow. My guess is someone working their, as it always has been. It might be hackers, but my guess is a network admin trying to make it "look" like hackers.

  198. Earth to Alberto: Habeas Corpus

    mcjoan says it so well:

A reader transcribed this exchange concerning habeas corpus from today's Senate Judiciary Committee hearings (no official transcript yet):

Specter: Now wait a minute, wait a minute. The Constitution says you can't take it away except in the case of invasion or rebellion. Doesn't that mean you have the right of habeas corpus?

Gonzales: I meant by that comment that the Constitution doesn't say that every individual in the United States or every citizen has or is assured the right of habeas corpus. It doesn't say that. It simply says that the right of habeas corpus shall not be suspended.

    Article I, Section 9:

The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it.

Alberto Gonzales should not only be impeached for his willfully obtuse interpretations of the Constitution, he should be disbarred.
